1. As you probably know by now, GM only sells the motor with the pump and the price is around $500. You can purchase a complete Teves system rebuilt for Prior for $405.
There is a chance that VW and Saab dealers might carry the motor/pump as the Teves unit was used on those cars (with ABS) in the late 1980's.
I had a similar failure of my motor/brush holder and the problem was caused by a relay stuck in the ON position.
  2. I have new emblems for $5.00, they fit all years.
Last time I looked, the used ones on ebay were at $10.00 each.
  3. GM Ross... It seems all Delco antennas will have the "Made in Mexico" label.
The unit available from GM is the '91 and later style, meaning the larger mast is .250 inches in diameter. The pre-'91 mast is .300 in diameter. When you use your existing fender mounting hardware, there is a .050 gap that lets water run down the antenna into the motor and may require a sump pump to keep dry if you live in a rainy area.
  4. Wally (and other amature experts), I am attempting to understand what a shop could do to cause the above mentioned failure.
I know that Wally is also scratching his head .. overfilling should not cause the problem. Most brake shops do more than JUST replace the pads. I would almost bet they turned the disc. Could the problem be associated with power bleeding?
I can't put together any normal service conditions that would cause the problem.
If they disconnected or damaged the switch, wiring, or relay during the procedure, then the failure would be understandable.
We need the full story, what did it take to fix the brakes... it sounds like the Buick dealer is going to replace the switch and accumulator (which probably needs replacing anyway) to put the car back on the road.
  5. I have a few repair kits remaining for the trunk lock. This kit includes the black face, that comes off and your parts guy has no idea how to fix. Complete detailed instructions included. Price is $8.00 including shipping.
Send me a note for more details ..Barney@texas.net
  6. I think the "circling the track" was wishful thinking. Indy has allowed some groups to do this but I think it is part of a package where the event is held at the speedway.
There are concerns with someone wanting to see how fast their car will go and not abiding by the rules. The Speedway would probably require wavers from everyone, etc.
There is a possibility that some group from the Buick National will go to the Speedway Museum and that is a very worthwhile trip.
It is about 55 miles from the Kokomo convention center to the Speedway. All but the last 3 is interstate, so about an hour drive.
If you are going to Kokomo and have never been to the Speedway, set aside 4 hours and make the trip. You cannot imagine the size of this place, setting in town. There are new tracks that are as large, but few have the same permanent seating. The Speedway Museum is located inside the track and there is no admission to get to the museum, the cost for the museum is around $4.00 (I'm sure there is a web site) For another fee, you can board a bus and take the 2.5 mile ride around the speedway.
  7. There is another company that has the molded front carpet and should have finished the mold for the rear of the coupe.
The convertible rear does not need to be molded.
The problem I see is two companies working on the same low volume items and neither will make out. The winner will be the one that make the correct unit at a reasonable price.

    Not that simple. Do your footwell and door lights work? If they do not, check the relay "B" on the right rear wheel housing.
If the footwell and door lights work, check for 12v at the light.
check connector C210 a 8 cavity connector located behind the right front footwell. That connector has the 12v going to the light and the return that goes through the relay. The orange wire is +12v and the dark blue/white is the return line.
  9. We had some rooms reserved at the Holiday Inn Express, but I believe they are full.
If you have a map program check the other hotels because there are two others at the same site. All of the hotels/motels in Kokomo are fairly close but none are located at the Convention center.
Like many cities, the highway (US31)is divided but not limited access. Many resturants are within walking distance of the hotels, but I would not recommend crossing the highway on foot.
  10. Jim is correct about the number (8554) and that will work fine at a paint store, but if you go to AutoZone or Pep Boys their book will most likely list the shorter code 40.
  11. Another Reatta owner had this problem of the parts not being available. I tracked down the original supplier and had to buy 40 to get them to run a batch.
The last catalog I have listed them for $127
from GM. I sell them for $45 including shipping.
Send me a note if you need one, still have 29 remaining and haven't made a dime.
Barney@texas.net

    I talked to a fellow in Indiana this am that was interested. He sent me a message tonight that he purchased the car.
  13. My first guess would be a wire about to break in the connection on the back of the light.
With the lights closed and the hood open, look at the routing of the wires to the light. They should come from the fender side, over the casting and make a 90degree turn into the connector.
I have seen several cars that have been worked on and the wires were routed in from the middle, directly behind the light. Every time the headlight doors open, it flexes the wires at the connection and they eventually break.
  14. If you do a search, you will find the following engine swaps....
* 3800 supercharged engine
* Cadillac aluminum V8 (4100-4900)
* Northstar
You could also go the the 3100 engine if you think it already has too much power.
  15. If you are paranoid about your Reatta being stolen when you are on vacation or in a strange part of town, pull the fuel pump fuse.
The fuse is in the inside fuse holder (on the side of the console) it should be identified by the label on the lid. If the label is missing, here is the fuse for different years.
'90-'91 = fuse #8
'89 = fuse #7
'88 = fuse #5
  16. The only way you could make that kind of profit .... if you could document that Elvis owned the car.
  17. The '88-'90 hub caps on ebay from a seller in Tampa appear to be polished and not to have the original lathe-turned finish.
Do you agree?
The '91 white convertible with 9600 miles was for sale last May with 9000 and the asking price was $29,000. Looks like an annual spring sale.
  18. You did not indicate if this is a old continuing problem or something that just started.
The problem could be at either end or both.
The switch that indicates the parking brakes
are on is on the foot pedal assembly.
You can remove both rear wheels and look at the spring loaded brake arm. Both arms should be against the stop when released.
You might isolate the problem by disconnecting the the adjustment under the drivers door. If the rear wheel arms now return to the stops, the adjustment is off or the foot pedal assembly is broken or needs lubrication.
You could also have cable lines that are rusty causing the drag.

    select 60

    Yes my friend that is a Select Sixty and depending on the reserve, it may be a buy.
The car looks pretty good although there are no pictures of the seat and their condition.
  20. If you own a '88 or '89 Reatta, the floor mats had a small (1 7/8) dia black patch with tan/gold embroidery. There was a patch glued on both side of each floor mat.
In '90 the "R" was embroideried directly on the mat.
  21. More likely it is either all the way up or all the way down and the flex cable inside is broken. The motor relys on a torque shift at the top and bottom to turn the motor off.
You can rebuild the antenna using the procedure at www.reatta.net
or I rebuild, lube and test them for $50 including return shipping.
  22. I don't know the real answer but would assume it is built into the ECM or BCM memory.
  23. Does anyone on this forum work for GM or a GM dealer?
I have the vin numbers for about 7 Reattas that have been scrapped and would like to find the colors and options. A dealer can run a VIS and warranty history against a vin number. The VIS will list all the coded information about the car, the Warranty history will tell if it was ever in private hands.
If you do not want to divulge this information on this discussion and can help me with the numbers, send me a note at Barney@texas.net
  24. Mazda RX-7 of the same time period.
Tell them you have a 1989 RX-7
  25. The part you need is 20587948 Escutalon.
The last price from GM was $3.33 each retail
Take a close look at the other black plastic part. The door pull often cracks the other part (20588020 Retainer) and that is why the Escutalon comes off.
If you put new Escutalons on, and the retainer is cracked, you will loose the new covers.
This is an '88-'89 problem, '90-'91 had a different system.
[ 04-17-2002: Message edited by: Barney Eaton ]
