  1. One of the first things I would check is to see if you have the correct radiator cap on it and that the rubber seal is good. Cadillac has a deep or high fill neck and in many cases folks install a short reach cap on them. Measure the neck depth and then height on the reach of the radiator cap. Off the top of my head, it should also have a 7 lb. cap on there. If the cap is to short, get the correct cap. Another thing I would check is to re-drain the radiator with having anti-freeze in it first. Once drained, look inside the filler neck and see if you have any antifreeze laying in the core tubes. If any antifreeze is laying there, those are the core tubes that are blocked. You won't be able to see them all, but you can pretty much average it out how much blockage you do have with what you are seeing in the neck. And I also agree with checking the timing.
  2. I saw a few colors in that chart that didn't seem correct to me. However, Todd is correct. The 1964 289 engine did indeed have a black painted block with Red / Orange valve covers and air cleaner. As did the 170 -6 cylinder of that year. I'm not sure about the other 6 cylinders of 1964 without looking them up. And the 1964 Fairlane with the 260 V-8 and other mid-size models with that engine, did have a black block with Ford Light Blue covers and air cleaner. In 1966 they went to using the darker blue.
  3. I'll try to attach a diagram here for you. If this doesn't work, I can e-mail it to you if you list your address.
  4. If you are still looking for a good modern spark plug for your '23, go with the Auto-Lite #3076 which you can buy at most any auto parts store. It's what I run in my 24-45 and fits very well under the spark plug cover. Also, you can save yourself some time and money by buying a 9MM pre-fitted park plug wiring set from Cole's Ignition in Rochester, N.Y. You'll want it in black laquer coated. Mrs. Cole will make it up on request with the correct spade plug connectors, distributor ends as shown above and with or without boots. I just bought a new set from her for my '24 last fall. The number for Cole's is 585-342-9613.
  5. One place I would try, would be the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing in York Springs, PA. www.emmr.org Contact Joe Heisler (Library Research) and see what he can offer you. I believe they charge to look up information, or at least ask that you join the Museum. Either way, I'm sure you will find it worth while.
  6. Steven, As a long time user of Tarnite, I switched over to Wright's Brass Polish years ago. I found it easier to use and it holds up even longer. (That's my opinion) Run down to Karn's or the Giant and pick up a bottle to try. We converted several long time brass guys over to using it and you and your friends might like it too. They make a great silver and copper polish as well.
  7. Hey Karl, get Charlie to drive it to Macungie for you. As I'm sure you already know, it's amazing what you can get him to do for a free Coke.
  8. And have your chiropractor waiting at the main gate when you go pulling in!
  9. Bob, Most of the plates were going for $25 to $35 and I think one went for $40. These plates were the ones actually on the cars that were being auctioned off for re-issue on them or to another car.
  10. Bubba, Thanks for the offer of sending pictures of your '25 and looking forward to seeing them. E-mail address is rahoover1@verizon.net Doug, That had to be the first time I saw our old Purple antique plates being auctioned off to be re-used. Amazing the prices some of them brought and I can't help but wonder why the citizens of PA don't like the new "Oldsmobile" plate we're now being forced to use.
  11. Bubba, I owe you a thanks because you taught me something today. After reading your last reply, I thought I better pull out my '24 Buick books and take a look. Sure enough, they all show the oil drain rod in every picture. Heck, I must have a newer oil pan on mine then? And pay no mind to my calling it a levelling check rod, because I'm working on something right now that has one and I guess I was thinking that is what it was when I saw it on that Buick. Another funny thing, in most every engine picture of the right side, the books also show the vents in the side covers. So who knows what's up with that? The other week on this forum I was told I had the wrong tail pipe, as mine goes out the back and should go out the side in front of the left rear tire. Looks like I need to start studying these books more and also have a talk with my good ol' buddy that sold me this car. The way my luck is going, under the Buick emblems, it might say Oldsmobile! (That was for you Steve) And Steve, the distracting was intensional as always!
  12. Bubba, One of the items, was that it had a motor oil levelling check petcock on the right side of the motor. Never seen that before on a '24. Yet, the oil dipstick and fill tube were on the left like should be. Another item was that the pushrod side covers had a horizonal slotted vent across the top of the covers. Both items looked factory. Have you seen these before? There was another item that caught my eye there, but I'm forgetting what it was right now. My '24 was restored some 35 years ago. I'll use the word restored lightly, as it was painted in a model 55 paint scheme unlike the all black as it should be. Not counting the cosmetic changes, it's correct otherwise. We just have it to drive and have fun.
  13. It was a model 45. Complete car with a very old re-paint, but done correctly in black with gold stripes. The starter generator wasn't working, but I was told they had it running before the auction for a short time. The only concerns I had with it, was that the engine had a few items different than on my 24-45. If the new owner can perform his own work, he might do well with the car for what he paid. (Maybe?)
  14. Slight correction Steve.... The '24 Buick Touring brought $18,000.00, but you're correct that it needed a lot of work. It was the one you wanted that sold for over $20,000.00. Superior187, I hope you can post some pictures of your '24 Buick on here as suggested, as I for one would enjoy seeing it. I'm sure somebody on here can help you with a honest price range, but I agree that you should hire a professional apprasier.
  15. JB, Well, I learned something today. After reading your last post, I pulled out all my Buick books and sure enough, there's a chassis photo showing the pipe exactly as you said. I never picked up on that before. So thanks! Paul, As simple as that pipe looks, I would think you could get just about any muffler shop to make that up for you. A picture of mine won't do you any good.
  16. Paul, I'd be happy to take a picture for you, but my tail pipe doesn't exit out under the left running board like you're being told. Mine is a full length pipe that exits out the back of the car between the gas tank and left rear fender. I could be wrong, but I thought they all did. I'm just not sure. Either way, I also have a spare pipe for my car and could help with pictures, ect, if you wish. Just curious, where are you located?
  17. I have a new spare muffler for my 24-45 that I could measure for you tonight after work and then I could give you all the specs. The Master Parts Book says they are the same muffler for the sixes from '21 to '24.
  18. Needless to say, it hurt to read of Bill's of passing this morning's news. Terry said it all with the AACA being Bills passion. And what a true gentleman he was. Many years back, Bill had family living next door to us and on his visits to them, would often walk over to see what I was scratching at on my old cars in the garage. I always looked forward to having him stop by and visit with me. For a young fellow in my early twenties back then, I could listen to his stories all day long and his telling me about the AACA. It was Bill that inspired me to join and he always made me feel welcomed. Rest in peace Bill and thank you.
  19. Bob, I buy our round top nickled caps from NAPA. Part number 90-190, but that could be a number for a box of 100, which is what I buy. They even have the Schrader name stamped in them. NAPA also sell the stem removal type as well. For stem "covers", then it's Universal Tire or Coker.
  20. Production was 11,901 for the 3 window Master Sport Coupe with rumble seat.
  21. Now that's not good!! It's possible Greg Cook in Gettysburg can help you locate one. I use to have a very nice spare grille years ago, but I forget who we sold it to. If it comes to me later on, I'll let you know. It might have been Greg?
  22. DUCKfur, You have me curious. Do you mind sharing which brand and size they were that gave you so much trouble?
  23. CaptainGTX, Seeing that this is a old thread and the original poster may not reply because of that, you can buy the Goodyears at www.kelseytire.com They are in Camdenton, MO. Not only are they the most original and correct tire for your car, they look and ride great as well!
  24. Rusty, The AACA Judging Manual states it as being 1956. Not knowing any better myself, I always go along with that.
  25. The new AC number for the Caddy is a AC M-8. Those you can still get at most any auto parts store like a NAPA or Carquest. Should you ever have to use a new spark plug that is cad plated for a older car, I'll pass on a little trick. Use a broad tip black magic marker and 'paint' over the cad plating with it. Once the plugs get hot from running, it will bake itself and the finish will look just like it should. It will last for years. BTW ~ The AC M-8's are already black.
