  1. I filled the hydraulic Pot with ATF and low and behold the top works and one of the windows works. Any ideas what the other three Windows could be wrong? Also where do I check and filled transmission fluid?
  2. I found the floor access panel for the master brake cylinder. Fluid level was good though a bit discolored. I also remove the hydraulic pot, it was empty. Since it was empty, probably a leak somewhere. Can I use AFT or stick with Dot3? How do I bleed the system? Thanks for your help!!!
  3. Wow everything is hydraulic OMG 🙂 Still haven't figured out where to add brake fluid or hydraulic fluid to the top, ETC
  4. This is my 1st post to this Forum.... I recently purchase this 51 from a museum. It was sitting for years looking pretty but not maintained. 1st, I want to make sure my 51 is suitable for this Forum to ask technical questions. I have 2 beginner questions..... How to check and add break fluid? How to check and add hydraulic fluid to convertible and power windows? Thanks
  5. @Tom, Is the brake master cylinder accessed under carpet or under floor, bottom side? The picture should i believe to be a break line going through the floor to under driver seat. I will post in the Lincoln and Zephyr.
  6. I am also going to remove oil pan and clean, then drive the 100 miles. Questions: Where and how do I check/fill brake fluid? Where and how do I check/fill convertible top fluid?? Where is the oil coming from in picture, just under passenger door?
  7. Hi Tom, Thanks for the info..... I do believe it is #s matching, so yes hydraulic lifters. Others have said same as you, add 1 or 2 quarts of either ATF or Marvel Mystery oil and easy drive for 100 miles. One guy said could take up to 1,000 miles. I sure hope I don't have to take apart. Currently the gas tank is being boiled. Once installed I'll drive her in hopes of solving the noise. Thanks for links if I will have to wrench. Below is a video of the engine running. Thanks for your help!!
  8. Does this car have solid or hydraulic lifters? I presume hydraulic based on Rusty's description of the tappet noise reason. @Scott, You are correct, we sometimes get caught up with the questions. I like learning, thus my q's Gas tank is getting cleaned as I type. Hopefully get it back tomorrow and installed, for a short road trip this weekend.
  9. Consensus seems to be stuck lifter. If stuck, is the tapping noise the cam hitting the lifter? If not... what is hitting what? I presume, the stuck lifter is not opening/closing the value. Will this cause excessive exhaust oil smoke since the value is in an open position?
  10. ATF, good idea..... have not yet pulled pan but, as said, prob needs it. Need to source gaskets. Speaking of sourcing, any suggestions? Fuel pimp tick? Could be... a prior owner installed an inline electric fuel pump. I tried starting w/o the electric pump at no avail. What are your thoughts on keeping as is or new fuel pump?
  11. Stude Light, Thanks for the suggestions. Video to hear the tapping...... I did a compression test. results: 100 80 90 120 110 118 100 100 2 & 3 are low, however, the tapping seems to be coming from the other side, drivers side. Also the motor idles smooth. How do I ground a plug with a screw driver? Thanks!
  12. I just purchased this car from a museum collection. Probably sitting for years. Cleaned fuel system and got started. Idles nice, blows a bit of smoke. I lubed all cylinders prior to starting which may be the cause of the smoke. My concern is a loud tapping noise. I suspect a value and hope not. Need help diagnosing and remedy.
  13. I just purchased a 15 Lincoln Cosmopolitan Convertible from a Museum. It sat for years. After some work get it started. There is a loud tappit noise. Any ideas what it is? Value adjustment? If so, how without a rebuild??
