  1. When the car initially starts. I only pump once on the pedal to squirt a little gas into the carb. And it starts with almost a 1/2 revolution. Almost instantaneously starts and the electric choke immediately brings it down to normal idle. If I was to shut off the car. Anytime within 10-15 minutes. I just turned the key and it immediately starts. It only gives me trouble starting once the starter gets overheated. I have AC Delco spark plugs with a 35 gap that seemed to work just fine. I recently replaced the Ignition module in the HEI distributor because it quit on me while I was driving backfroma carshow, Do have to check my timing. It has been a while and check the vacuum advance. I usually have no trouble starting this car. Only after it gets really super hot. What the starter that is

Thank you guys for all the help and ideas after much research, I believe that my starter is getting cooked by my exhaust Which was replaced last year and it's probably very close to the starter, And it's probably overheating it so I ordered a thermoshield wrap for the starter on Amazon. Should be arriving soon. We'll install and let you know The results
  3. Smartin my resting voltage after running is about 12.8 v is there anything I can use to insulate the starter solenoid from the exaust heat?
  4. So my 57 nailhead has new battery, electric fuel pump. Upon starting it cold I turn the ignition key on to prime the pump press gas pedal a couple of times to prime edelbrock carb with electric choke and instantly fires up. I let it warm up 5 minutes and begin driving with no issues, drive around 20 minute drive or so, shut it down a few minutes, go to start use same procedure as always but cranking as if battery is dying, it turns on after a few slow cranks and drives normal. Altinator puts out 14.6 volts at idle when duel electric fans turn on it draws down to 13.4 and with lights on its 12.7. Do I need a higher voltage Altinator? My GM 7127 puts out 63 amps and seems sufficient being I don't have many power drawing devices other than fans and low volume edelbrock fuel pump. I forgot to mention I has an HEI with new coil and ignition module as well. I know many purists are probably cringing about the 4 core aluminum radiator electric fans edelbrock 4 brl carb, HEI electric fuel pump and modern duel power master cylinder set up, but I purchased the car this way, the old timer I purchased the car from whom is a dear friend restored the car for "Florida" driving. Any suggestions as to why harder starting when hot? Thanks

My pump is a bit large and sticks out over my passenger side valve cover I was looking to "display" my engine a little better and I see that later model Buicks had a rounder shape and were moved back some thus displaying the engine better I guess it would have to have a similar pully diameter to match the current pressure of my original Saginaw
  6. Does anybody know what other power steering pump I could use on my 1957 Buick instead of the original Saginaw power steering pump. Will a 1960 and up work with a matching bracket setup.

My 1957 Buick power steering pump says fill with automatic transmission fluid type "A" I have been topping it off in the past year since I have owned it with Dex/Merc trans oil that I also use in my Dynaflow, but noticed when pump gets hot it "whines" on turns. Anyone else have this happen, they haven't made type "A" since 1965.
  9. Transmission oil Pan Might be warped, or the trans housing might not be true, remove pan, clean it dry and put a straight edge on all sides, if it's straight check all bolt holes and make sure non are stripped, a bolt or 2 that do not tightly grip will cause oil sweating. Hope this helps 🙏

  11. These are the cranks and door release that I have in my car.
  12. I am trying to remove my window cranks and door release handles On my 1957 Buick special, I ordered replacements but cannot remove the old handles with the tool that I have. I tried for over an hour. Am I using the correct tool?
  13. Call Matt Martin 530-272-1564 at Centerville Auto, he is the Nailhead guru and will most likely know where the problem is, all Nailheads are externally balanced but they are all not the same, different years have different balancing weights, I highly recommend calling him. Hope this helps
  14. Looking to purchase wide white wall tires for my 1957 Buick special, has anyone purchased these for their classic car and how are they? I made up my mind to stay away from Coker due to many many bad reviews and Diamondbacks are being highly considered due to their very good reputation, however the kontio has the best price. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
  15. I will try to find an alan key that fits the tiny hole in the knob, I looked at it but looks like threading and no screw. I assume the light switch knob pulls out by releasing a locking button on the light switch from what I can see on the manual, I guess the chrome bezels should easily come off once knobs are removed and you said a locking nut removed. Thanks for the advice Lancemb
  16. I just purchased 2 dashboard bezels for my 57 Buick Special one for blower one for lights, question, how do I remove these so I can replace them with better non pitted ones.
  17. I am about to order wide white wall tires for my 1957 Buick, I currently have 225 75r15 but was curious if anyone has fit 235 75r15 if the difference in size would cause rubbing or any other difficulty, I was looking to fill the wheel well just a tad more. Any thoughts?
  18. I have been noticing every time I pull the car out of the garage, that there seems to be grease drippings quite a bit from what it looks like The rear portion of the torque tube. Is there a hole or something that the universal joint might be pouring out grease?
  19. I would like to replace the 1" whitewall radial tires I have currently on my 1957 Buick special, I have the Buick wire wheel rim, what is a better tire, Coker classics or diamond backs anybody have any luck with either, input is greatly appreciated these tires are expensive

I purchased my 57 Buick special 2 door hard top about 2 months go and had the same conversion had an Edelbrock 650 cfm carburetor electric choke and a regular ignition switch, electric fuel pump as well as HEI distributor, starts fast and is very reliable set up, however, I really wish I had the original peddle start ignition

Does anybody have any good advice on putting seatbelts in a 1957 Buick special 2 door hardtop, at least just the lap belts, I don't want to ruin too much of the originality of the car And I don't want to experiment with drilling holes in the Floore, if someone out there has done this, I could use some advice.
