  1. Hey, I have a 49 Windsor 6 volt, 6 cly and this is whats happening - the voltage gauge needle keeps jumping all other gauges are ok. Not sure whats causing it. The mechanic found (not sure if its the signal flasher or the voltage regulator, but described it as round the diameter of a 50 cent piece, 2 - 3 inches tall, with 4 wires & bolts at the top to the fire wall to the right of the voltage regulator) - it gets hot enough to burn the skin. Does anyone know if its the signal flasher - mine has 4 wires and the new one I ordered has 3 wires & what also might be causing it to get hot? Many thanks in advance, also where can I get a wire Schematic for the 49 Windsor?
  2. Hello, Anyone know where I can get a gas tank for a 49 Chrysler Windsor, flat 6 at a reasonable price - plus a website where I can get other parts? Thanks
  3. Hi Everyone, I want to thank you all. I have a 49 Chrysler Windsor, which I emailed on info about the fluid drive transmissions and Rusty replied. I lost the web site Rusty gave me and found it in the above emails. My transmission has trouble shifting in low gear (but the idle is all messed up and idles high. The seller had the 6 volt battery connected backward & turned it up, or tried), but it seems to shift ok in high gear. My question: if the transmission is full of fluid and shifts ok in high gear will it hurt to drive it, only short distances of 3 or 4 miles? I'm trying to find a mechanic who knows & has worked on fluid drive transmissions, checking out the electrical part and adjusting the transmission but it's hard to find one. Many Thanks Tom
  4. Thanks Dave. Appreciate all the help I can get. I received a email from a Chrysler member who wrote to make sure the transmission was adjusted, so after reading your reply it doesn't need adjusting. I need to have it checked out - I don't want to do damage to the transmission. The seller had the battery hooked up backwards on the 6 volt system, so I'm not sure what all I need to do now. It ruined the battery not sure about the starter or generator or anything else. We lean as we go. Again thanks
  5. Hello, Looking for someone who knows about the fluid drive transmissions for a 49 Windsor. I just bought one and the seller told me it was a fluid drive, but it doesn't shift well in low & appears ok in high gear. I want to check the fluid to make sure its full which I believe is under the floor on the passengers side front seat. Do these transmissions need adjusting, I was told they do? Also what type of fluid does the transmission take? I received good replies to my first email, but the replies are not showing up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also I'm close to Marietta, OH any mechanic that knows about these Windsor's would be great. Thank you
  6. Looking to join a Chrysler Club in the Mid west, Ohio area. Any info would be appreciated, Also I have a 49 Chrysler Windsor with a fluid Drive transmission - does the fluid drive transmission, converter need to be adjusted and if so how? I know there's a web site on the fluid drive transmissions but it got accidently deleted. Thank you
  7. Will needs parts for my 49 Chrysler Windsor I just bought. Need a referral for a good dealer with dependable parts: electric fuel pump, wiper motor (for 6 volt, flat head 6), heater controls and heater fan(s) to start. Many Thanks T
  8. Thanks, appreciate your help. I'm not sure how to find the Chrysler section, but will try. Is there a certain type of oil to use in the fluid drive and transmission? Also will the Chrysler section have a contact for a repair manual? Thanks again
  9. Also what type of oil / transmission fluid, oil should I use in it - & also does the fluid need changing periodically? Many thanks Tom
  10. Thanks Dave appreciate it. This is my 1st one so I need all the help I can get. Thanks again
