  1. Many thanks guys. Kinda worried about that gauge but we'll see tomorrow. Ive been working on a 48 Willys pickup till lately and am just now tryin to work through a few issues on the Buick. This am tried turning ignition to ON with sender wire and ground disconnected. Result is no movement on gauge. Seems this is opposite the suggested test method result. I will complete the suggested test with sender wire grounded. Initial impression is that I have faulty gauge. I have inspected the sender and it looks like it is making contact at the appropriate points. More to come. After foolin with the sender for awhile and improving the grounds I now have the gauge working from half to full. I am thinking the contact head in the sender is not staying in touch with the rheostat strip. Not sure if this means buying a new sender or keep messin with this one. Comments and suggestions welcome- Thank you
  2. For many years I have lived with an inoperable fuel gauge on my 36 Buick 40 coupe. Finally took out the tank and removed the sender. I found that the floats were no longer floating. Other than that the sender looks like it should work. Im not sure whether I should replace it or see if it can be fixed. If anyone has experience with these old units which appear to have been used in many GM cars of the day please give me some advice. Also I should say that the gauge has been at a point just below 1/2 full, with no fluctuation related to fuel level. Thanks for any help-Paul
