Correction to earlier post. in my earlier post with info from Coachbuild.com I found a chassis number: “This car, equipped with a very special body, is a big mystery. Chassis n° 408335 was originally delivered as a 540 K bodied as a coach, painted brown and beige. Today, the car has a 500 K engine (n° 113675). This engine was originally in a 500 K “cabriolet C”, delivered in Switzerland in 1935, painted two-tone gray. In the same Coachbuild.com someone else mentioned #408355 as beeing the chassis number. This one is rebodied as a Spezial Roadster. Jan Melin Vol 1 page 30 also mentioned it as # 408.355 As I searched on #408335 and found the mention about a Cab A at Meadow Brook Hall, I made a mistake. The Cab A was NOT the former Frejat bodied car.

it was rebodied again, now as a 540K cabriolet A, and presented at the Meadow Brook Lall concours in 2000

the Avus Renner is also a recreation: https://mercedesheritage.com/mercedes-heritage/sskl-recreation Translation/compilation about the Avus Renner: It had a 7.1 liter 6cylinder kompressor engine with twin-spark, 300PS. Topspeed 230KM/H. It ran at Avus at an average of 200KM/H. It had drumbrakes on all wheels. The car was 20km/h faster then the non-aerodynamic SSKL's. Materials used were Electron and aluminium. Holes in the chassis made the car even lighter. Total weight 1440KG. Aerodynamic shape of the grille and chassis covers helped the wind flow. Whilst running such a car the max RPM is the (only) important thing. "Sieg oder tot": win or dead.

Spohn Carosserie customs on US chassis

It looks that the car has a badge of the A.N.W.B. (Algemene Nederlandse Wielrijder Bond, a Dutch club for cyclists & automobists) above the licence plate -
Mercedes-Benz S "Cannes", 1928. Bodied by Saoutchik

The GN-13-45 licence plate is from the Netherlands. It was used for import/export of cars. It is a pity I can't recognise the background. -
The "Autobahnkurier" is based on 500K or 540K chassis and has only 2 doors.
-
the pictured car is a '39 MB 320 Streamliner with 4 doors.
-
Around 1937 it had a Dutch license plate M-42564. It (might have) swapped in 1938 to Dutch license plate N-9431.

From a son of a former owner I received an interesting picture of a Mercedes-Benz SSK. Picture dates from 1937. The car was owned by his father, a Dutchman. He got the car from a niece of his mother. This niece was born in Hamburg and her father was a Dutch industrialist living there. Now we wonder which car it is and who was the coachbuilder. The shape of the doors hints towards coachwork of Erdmann & Rossi. Is this car still around? HermanOtO

Jan Melin Vol II page 244 showed car #189424 in Nyack. Nyack is related to the Vintage Car Shop of Ed Jurist. Running along the forum another picture of #189.424 popped up, see above!

Very interesting, same body shape as #169.384! As far as I know #169.384 didn't have a colour change, it remained black until now. Do You have more information about the car in Your pictures like: - what is it license number & state? - date & location of picture? - name of driver/owner? Regards, Herman van Oldeneel

concours Masterpieces & Style, Schloss Dyck Germany 2017 did show such a roadster. I had the pleasure to be a passenger in that car from the parking into the show field. Unfortunate I do not have any pictures from cars in the showfield, so I can't say for sure it was this event.
-
That's right.
-
He showed the car at the concours in 2003. In the same Year he advertised the car in a Classic & Sports Car magazine, I do have a clipping. Regarding the French licence plate, there isn't a (known) connection of this vehicle with France.

It is a Ghia Supersonic of Mr. Lou Fageol. He and his wife owned two of these cars. The cars were modified with tailfins, tire kits, and heavy bumpers.

In 1954 Joaquin Palacio and Celso Fernandez took part in a Pegaso. They are not the drivers in Your picture.

It is a Mercedes Benz 320 W142 SA After WW-II it got a new factory body in Germany, a "Sunder Anfertigung" (special made) for Mr. Tan Tjoan Keng. By now a lot of history is found and a 1/43 scale model is made! The car still exists and is in Indonesia again. As I am researching the history of this automobile, any info on the early history of this car is wellcomed by me! Herman
