  1. As I think Bloo mentioned in another thread always call both egge or CPR https://www.pontiacparts.net/contact/ their sites do not list all they have. There was also a source for someone that did mostly rear end gears and such that did get back to me with valve train parts but I can't find the info at the moment Found it !   3. Just throwing this out there is there anyone with a split head 200 style motor that I could see in the NNJ area have a vibration in my 31 and would like to compare it to another one. Thanks Bill
  4. Anyone know if all the split head 200 6 cyl flat head components ( Pressure plate, flywheel, crank, pulley ) are 0 balanced ????? I have a vibration issue and the only thing I see that is odd some previous owner replaced the original Pressure plate with a newer style GM any thoughts would be welcome. Bill

Guess you didn't get much feedback My car is a 31 flywheel and correct PP look the same, however some previous owner replaced the PP with a modern GM style it seems to work fine but I have a engine vibration issue. So I am wondering if both the flywheel and PP are 0 bal on the split head 6 motors????????
  6. Ok Folks Just a follow up problem is fixed after have the carb apart 4 times and not really finding anything of substance. Decided to look else where Since I had already tried a different coil and all the parts in the distributor were new. wasn't sure what to try next so I replaced the easiest one first and replaced the new condenser with a NOS one from 40 years ago when I had a 64 Falcon Convertible. And that was it car now runs great. In case some have not read previous posts problem was always started great and idle was fine and cold it drove good as soon as it got hot no high speed eng would not rev up at all.   7. Jon Thanks for the reply 10-228 is definitely a raised casting number. Seems I at least have the correct Carb. Well after going thru my recently received 1931-1932 Oakland Pontiac shop manual which is actually a 1930 with 31 and 32 supplements It seems the air valve spring length was stated in the 1930 manual as 1 1/2 inches however the 1931 supplement shows a correction to 1 1/16. My spring is 1 1/8 sort of close and appears to be in OK shape. As for the gap between the Idle venturi and the lip on the Air valve I have more like .010 thousands not sure if that is a problem. So far I don't see anything to cause the issue I have ......
  8. Hans Had a little more time today and pulled the carb again and I just couldn't see the numbers in the car..... It's a 10-228 not what my sheet calls for I have not had a chance to try and see what is for. The only other thing is noticed was the the edge of the air valve is very sharp Bill

Hans Thanks for the reply that is more info than I had I just went and looked and I didn't see any stamped numbers. the tune up sheet I have says I should have a 955 where on the air housing should the number be ? I did find some where the part about start with brass knob even with end of the ratchet which I have done and at idle it seems a bit better about 3/4 of a turn in hot. Just yesterday I finished up a new timing chain and reset timing and it started nice and easy Idle was good and it seemed to run Fine for 10 blocks even pulled up an fair hill in second and went several blocks at 30 mph all good thought all was good then about 2 more blocks and no high speed it just dies then you can restart and it will idle but that is it. I did polish the bore and piston and pin last time I pulled it apart but that didn't seem to help Sounds like I need to check that clearance and the hole in the air valve thanks again for the reply Bill

Dennis Thank you for scaring my dist right out of the block LOL I had been soaking this thing since last fall with PB blaster,wd40,10 wt oil, acetone$trans fluid,someone said try Kroil used that everyday for the last week and yesterday I tried it with not that big a pry bar and it moved 1/16 one more soak and it freed right up.... I think your spare scared it out ......... Thanks for your time looking. but I am good now if my new timing chain would come I could get this all back running ...:-)

  15. I put all new Coker WW 19 X 4.75/5.00 tires and tubes have them at 32 seems fine but 30 mph was about all it was happy with doing a timing chain now it was way loose that may make it a bit happier.

  17. Ya I lent my 1970 gauge to a neighbor and that was the last I saw if it LOL I bought the Craftsman set and have been very happy with it seem right on and I like the quick disconnect I all so use it on every thing from a 9 sec race car to my lawn mower.
  18. Ours is a good driver I did the 4 speed conversion my self its not simple and ours is not a original spider or turbo car and has a 67 140 hp motor 4 one barrel
  19. Talked to Then & Now Automotive today great ppl to talk to...... They had no gears available but the chain was no problem and at a very reasonable price.
  20. Finally found the 1931 supplement to the marvel carb section for Pontiac 6 all it says is here are corrections to the 1930 specs no mention of 1931
  21. 1931 supplement states the 31 has an oil grove on the front and rear bearings This oil grove construction makes it essential to use only 1931 cam-shafts in 1931 cyl blocks
  22. As 32Pontiac6 stated my 1931 serial number plate/strip is just as he stated

Looking for a timing chain set for a 1931 Pontiac Split head 200 spoke with EGGE and they can make the chain but no gears still disassembling not sure how bad the gears are but there is a lot of slack I can move the crank back and forth alot before the cam moves.
