  1. I have a 1928 chrysler 72 conv coupe the previous owner had fitted a full set of white wall

because they were on when I got the car I will live with them for now

    not really my choice

would my car have had the option of whitewalls or were they not available in 1928

if not when did whitewall become available

do they suit my car or would it look better with black walls

your thoughts good or bad welcome

  2. I am based in the uk where I Am a member of the PRE 1950 AAC which has been established 57 years. I joined because of my love of pre 1950s american cars

the club have now decided to change the name to  AAAC  ( all american auto club )   I assume this is to increase or halt the decline of membership

by allowing any year car. should we all embrace these changes to what's seen by many younger people as an old mans hobby

    what's your thoughts

Earlier in the week, I posted a segment from an unfinished 1939 movie that had lots of footage taken at automobile plants and steel mills.

This is a segment that shows tire manufacture.  I don't know what plant it was filmed at, but the other locations of filming were in and around Detroit, Cleveland, and Chicago.

This looks like incredibly hard work.

    Enjoy!

skill and hard work    sadly becoming a thing of the past

So, my '29 Essex has the Super Six, with a Marvel carb, and I can't seem to find parts or a rebuild kit for it. Well, I found one but they want almost $500 for what I need. I would love to rebuild the whole thing, but I really only need the metering pin, link & plunger assembly.

Does anyone have a good source for pre-war, hard to find carburetors or parts?

I've spent hours online searching without success.

    Possible part/kit numbers:

    286, 556, 173-545

I'll pull the trigger on the expensive option, if I have to. But the source also wants 16-20 weeks to provide it. I need more options! Thanks in advance.

HI I struggled to get a carb repair kit for my 1931 Lasalle

    eventual got one from

  6. I used to work for an engineering company we had a fork lift truck to load transport

came to use it one day it was a four cylinder  and it was only running on three cylinders

I removed the plugs and straight away noticed number two cylinder plug had no gap

set the gap replaced plugs started up it ran spot on but within 10 minutes it was back to running on three cylinders

removed plug again on number two cylinder no gap again

we decided to remove cylinder head for a look

what we found was a 1/4 diameter ball out of a bearing when the engine ran it closed the spark gap

there was no damage to the bore and just a bit of a rash on top of piston

put it back together used it for the next two years with no problem

the boss thought an employee he had finished that week had sabotaged it by dropping the ball down plug hole

I can't help you with the current question. However, did you see the folding landau irons in the parts for sale section a couple days ago?

Looked like maybe there were two pair? One damaged or bent. All looked a bit long, maybe too big? Maybe they could be altered to fit?

I have been searching for over a year for landau irons

after posting on here a member mike west offered the two pair  I bought the shortest pair

there on there way to the uk now cant wait to get them fitted

car looks bare without them in my opinion

without the help of this site I would never have found a set

so thanks to the AACA and its members

Sir , I just compared the shorter Irons .Its obvious now that one is bent. They are brass. Three of the 4 parts are the same but one leg needs to be flattened out some. I honesty didnt see it. Straightening it out should be a easy task. New Price-  150 .00 US  plus postage  If you say of Ill polish it up some. Please note Im leaving for Florida Saturday as our home was damaged  in the recent hurricane. Mike

I have sent you a pm   awaiting your reply

    Hi mikewest

The 25" 3/4" ones if that's the pair on the left of the picture might work for me

correct me if I'm wrong but they don't seem to match

probably best way to check is open them out and bolt them together side by side

see if they line up also are they cast brass or steel

would it be possible for you to polish a part of the arm to see what the chrome comes up like

    thanks

  11. Reading some of these posts on the sophisticated scams that are highlighted on this forum

after cleaning the strainer and pan / block surfaces

I am ready to fit the gasket set I purchased from ollson gaskets

the two long gaskets are ok but the two end gaskets are to long

after studying a video posted on here by TIMFX on JULY he had the same problem and cut the excess gasket

but another poster PLY33 said that was wrong

what should I do                      ollsons must make them that length for a reason

The landau bars on the pictured car are mounted incorrectly.  The hump in the center of the bars always faces upwards except on hearses where it faces down.

thank you for that information the car pictured was just an example of my car to show the parts I need

I enclose a picture of my actual car

If I ever manage to obtain the landau bars  I will use your information to fit them correctly

IF there is anybody with a set please contact me thank you
