  1. I have revived a 1928 Packard 526 6 cylinder car this year. She has been running great. These last few cold mornings I’ve noticed a slight engine knock at start up. It seems to go away as the oil pressure builds. I am running straight 30 wt oil. Is this as simple as change the oil for 10/30? Or am I looking at some engine work. Thanks, Gary
  2. I strapped the moto meter onto the rear wheel of my model T, jacked up the rear and put the car in high. It took about 5 minutes and the fluid was back down where it belonged. I then put it in the freezer and the fluid went all the way down. Took it out and warmed it and the fluid went up. She seems to be working as she should now. Thanks, Gary
  3. I have the moto meter but need the thermometer replaced. Although, from reading your explanation it maybe a better idea to modify another unit by adding the notch?
  4. I am on the hunt for a replacement thermometer for the moto meter on my 28 Packard. I have tried Restoration Supply but the one they sell has a large thread diameter and does not have the notch that fits into the cap. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Gary
  5. Here is a picture of the motor with the pump removed. It is my "guess" that the squeal is coming from the front of the pump. I won't know until it gets taken apart.
  6. Thanks for the input. I have located a local shop that restores Packard. They are rebuilding the pump for me.
  7. Where would one go to find a rebuild kit for a 1928 Packard water pump? I have greased mine and it continues to squeal. The grease is also running out onto the shaft. It appears that someone may have gotten a little aggressive with a grease gun prior to my taking ownership of this car. Thanks, Gary
  8. So in lieu of a screw type grease gun, would I be good to use a screw in grease cup?
  9. There is no grease cup on this pump. Just a grease fitting. Thanks, Gary
  10. I will get myself one of those thermometers and do some testing before I take the car out again. I hadn’t really considered that the impeller could be disintegrated. I have also ordered a new thermometer for the moto meter as the original shows full red all the time. Thanks, Gary
  11. There is a grease fitting. I’m aware that these can be over greased, and I see grease coming out around the bushing. I will give it a shot or two of some marine grease and see if that quiets things down.
  12. I have gotten the tires all mounted on my 28 Packard 526. I took her out today for her maiden voyage. When I got back home I noticed the water pump is squeaking. Are these rebuildable? And if so, where would one source the parts? Thanks, Gary
