  1. Will do. Thanks for the advice. I’ll post back if I blow anything up!
  2. Not losing coolant, I think just running hotter. I'm in Los Angeles, specifically the Valley, which is 8-10 degrees hotter than the rest of it. Is a restricted radiator something I can adjust? Sorry - I'm mechanically inexperienced.
  3. My 1989 TC (2L turbo) overheated two months ago. Was a perfect storm of blown fuse for engine fan and a cracked water pump. Pump was still under warranty from being replaced last year (after purchase of car), so garage replaced no problem. Since then, all has worked fine. Then, the other day, I pulled into the garage at work and saw the temp gauge was absolutely pinned to H. I parked and let it cool. No smoke, no drips of any kind. Since then: fan seems to kick on fine at about the 2/3 mark, bringing the temp down. But the more I push the car -- especially long hills -- the more the temp creeps up, and at a certain point the fan stops helping. (Rather than risk blowing the engine, I pull over, let it cool down, and continue on, but it's seriously crimping my cool guy TC lifestyle.) Is this possibly a leak in the turbo cooling hose? Something else relatively fixable?
  4. So helpful, thank you! I just got my gears in the mail today, so the timing is perfect!
  5. Guys, thank you - this is all helpful. Mark, any lead you might have on the place in Whittier would be great -- I'm down there fairly often, as it happens. And I just ordered new gears from the odometergears website, so thank you, all! Really glad I found this group after very casually buying this odd, fun car!
  6. Hi! Just bought an '89 TC in red with just over 36k miles on it...and two weeks in, my odometer has stopped. (My fuel gauge is dead, too, but I knew that when buying.) A few calls locally have gotten me nowhere (you're shocked, I know). Anyone have leads on a mechanic anywhere in LA County willing and able to work on these cars? Would be much appreciated. Thank you!
