  1. About 3 years ago I picked up a 5lb. can of vintage Quaker State bearing grease on Ebay for about $20. I'm sure you could find plenty of it on Ebay still. Pretty sure my can will last well beyond my lifetime. Sure, there might be "better", more modern lubes, but it was what "was" used originally and should be more than adequate for any of our vintage cars. I rest quite comfortable in knowing that I have the correct grease, and have no questions about whether it is thick enough, thin enough, or is compatible with the components I have.
  2. Photo number 4 is the part I am looking for. The bowl cover which has the inlet casting for the fuel line. The threads have stripped out of the part where the brass plug seals in the strainer assembly. It's all one casting which so far as we can determine, is specific to the Carter 423s.
  3. Thanks for all of the assistance from everyone. I spoke extensively via phone with Jon at the Carburetor Shop this morning about my situation. Turns out I can only rely on trying to find a Carter 423s carb for parts. Hoping one will turn up before I have to resort to Jon's suggestion about retapping anything on the one I have.
  4. Thanks John, I would appreciate that. Basically what happened to my 423s is the threads stripped out on the brass plug which seals the screen in on the bowl cover. It had never sealed correctly since I had it professionally rebuilt about three years ago, and possibly had been a problem before then. The threads then finally gave way a couple of weeks ago. As a result, I don't really care about any other missing parts or overall condition of the carb other than the bowl cover being intact, usable, and able to fit on my 423s. Having talked to several more knowledgeable folks than me, the consensus seems to be that the cover from any of those models "should" work. Thanks again,
  5. Back to square 1. Still on the prowl for a Carter 423s carburetor only.
  6. Title says it all, looking to buy a Carter 423s WDO Carburetor. Prefer to buy one that is only good for parts as I only need the bowl cover off of it to repair the carb I already have. Will consider any condition if the price is right and the piece I need is usable. Thanks.
