  1. It’s ok, I still have some experience left from being first an assembler at a Chevy plant and then a Production Foreman also dealing with Jigs and Fixtures. I think I can hack it. Literally, lol
  2. Hello everyone , just got a 2000 S10 ext cab with 122 wheelbase and a V6. Buick WB is 121.5 or 121.1 so it is pretty close. Starting to dismantle body and will cut out the S10 firewall and attach it to the 53 to keep everything that is on it to transfer it. The 53 is known to have poor brakes as mentioned by many and I do not want to use a straight 8, even running that can break down on me out there and have no parts for it to get me home. 53 power train parts will be up for sale once it is done.   3. HAVE YOU EVER PUT AN S10 ON A 53 BUICK YOURSELF ? I AM LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS DONE IT, AND WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, NOT AN ANSWER FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS "HEARD" IT WON'T FIT. I KNOW THE CAPS SEEM TO BOTHER YOU, SORRY ABOUT THAT. DON'T WORRY ABOUT MY CATS, I STILL QUALIFY AS A POLICE BLUE MAX SHOOTER EVERY YEAR TO KEEP MY NATIONWIDE CCF WEAPONS LICENSE. AND I HAVE SEEN OVER 400 COMMENTS SO FAR HERE AND EVERYTHING IS ABOUT SWAPS BUT VERY LITTLE ON 53 SPECIALS, VERY LITTLE ABOUT CAR FRAME CHANGES, ALL FRONT CLIPS OR REAR CLIPS OR REAR END SWAPS. BTW, I CAN, WITH THE HELP OF A PROFESSIONAL WELDER AND FABRICATOR FRIEND CUT A FRAME AND LENGTHEN IT OR SHORTEN IT OR MAKE IT WIDER OR NARROWER. THAT IS NOT A PROBLEM. I AM MORE WORRIED ABOUT HAULING THAT BUICK ASS END ON A DOLLY FROM GA. TO FL. THAN THE WORK I SEE COMING. I WAS NOT A SUPERVISOR AT A CHEVY ASSY. PLANT AND A JIG AND FIXTURES MAINT. PERSON TO LET ALL THAT KNOWLEDGE GO TO WASTE AND NOT USE IT WHEN I HAVE TO. MANY WAYS TO SKIN A CAT . THANKS FOR YOUR THOUGHTS.
  4. GREG, THE CAR HAS ONLY PAINT FADING RUST, ONLY BAD IS THE BUMPER, IT LOST ALL THE CHROME FELL RIGHT OFF PLUS I HAVE THE OLD FASHIONED TWO ROTTED AREAS ON THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASS. FLOOR PANELS. THAT IS IT. I DO NOT WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH POWER TRAIN OR ACCESSORIES OR BRAKES THAT ARE OVER 67 YRS. OLD EVEN WITH LITTLE MILLEAGE ON THEM. I JUST DO NOT TRUST IT. WITH THE S10 IM GETTING ON WED. I WILL HAVE EVERYTHING THIS BUICK DOES NOT. A/C, PWR. BRAKES, ROTORS, OPEN DRIVE, ETC ETC. I PLAN TO PUT MY 305 0R 307 CHEVY VAN 1985 REBUILT BY SPECS BALANCED AND BLUEPRINTED NOW IT'S A 326 DUE TO THE MATH ON IT WITH THE 350 COMPLETELY REBUILT TRANNY.
  5. I DO HAVE A SHOP, WELDER, ACETELYNE, AND WORKED BESIDES BEING A FOREMAN AT A CHEVY ASSY. LINE, ALSO WORKED ON THEIR JIGS AND FIXTURES MAINT. DEPT WHERE I LEARNED A LOT OF STUFF IN WHAT TO BUILD AND FOR WHAT. ALL YOU SAID ABOUT ADDING IS MORE COSTLY THAN A SWAP THAT ALREADY HAS ALL THAT. I REALLY COULD NOT CARE ABOUT HAVING A DIFFERENT CHASSIS ON THE 53. ITS FOR MY USE AND DO NOT INTEND TO SELL IT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR THOUGHTS BUT MY QUESTION HAS NOT BEEN GIVEN AN ANSWER YET. WILL IT FIT ????
  6. MY MAIN CONCERN IS IF THE S10 EXTENDED CAB WILL BE OK FOR THE BUICK. I KNOW I WILL HAVE TO FABRICATE BODY MOUNTS. BUT WILL IT FIT, 121.5 BUICK AND S10 122.0. THAT IS PRETTY CLOSE. THE ONLY REASON I WANT THE SWAP IS THAT I FIND THE FRONT UPPER CONTROL ARMS ON THE 53 VERY FLIMSY , DRUM BRAKES AND 53 WAS KNOW TO HAVE POOR BRAKIG AND IT HAS A TORQUE TUBE WHICH DOES NOT ALLOW FOR INSPECTIONS ON THE DRIVE LINE. WILL IT FIT ???
  7. THANK YOU FOR THE ANSWER. I THOUGHT YOU KNEW IF IT WOULD FIT AS YOU RECOMMENDED THE S10 EXT. FRAME ON A COUPLE OF COMMENTS. BACK TO SQUARE 0. I DO NOT WANT TO WELD A FRONT CLIP. I RATHER STICK WITH AN UNDISTURBED CHASSIS.
  8. I GOT THE SAME VEHICLE AND I STARTED IT LAST ON 2001 WHEN THE 6V BATT WAS DEAD AND JUMPED IT WITH A 12 V AND BLEW THE SOLENOID.
  9. HI ED (RIV NUT) I JUST MADE MY FIRST POST ABOUT A HALF HOUR AGO. IT HAS TO DO WITH A FRAME SWAP ON A 53 BUICK TO AN S10. I SAW YOU COMMENTED TWICE ON IT 5 YEARS AGO.   10. I REPLACED MY FARMALL 1952 TRACTOR STARTER BY LOOKING AT THE STAMPED NUMBER ON THE CORE OF THE STARTER. HAVE YOU LOOKED TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY IDENTIFYING NUMBERS ON IT ?

I AM BUYING A 1996 S10 EXTENDED CAB TO MOUNT THE BUICK ON THE S10 FRAME. HOW MUCH OF A FRICKEN HEADACHE AM I LOOKING AT. WHEN YOU ARE 76 CLOSE TO 77 HEADACHES ARE NOT A WELCOME THING, CAN'T TELL IF FROM BLOOD PRESSURE OF FROM THE ENDEAVOR I AM GOING TO UNDERTAKE. ALL I SEE IS POSTS OF PEOPLE PUTTING OLD CHEVY AND FORD PICKUPS ON S10 FRAMES BUT I STILL HAVE NOT SEEN ONE POST OF ANYONE PUTTING A PASSENGER CAR ON ONE. I NEED HELP ON THIS. IF ANYONE HAS DONE IT, LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE KNOWS WHO DID IT, LET ME KNOW WHO. YOUR HELP WILL BE GREATELY APPRECIATED.   12. I GOT THE HYDRAMATIC ON A 50 SILVERSTREAK (TORPEDO) BEEN UNDER A TREE SINCE THE 80's. IT's COMPLETE BUT STARTING TO RUST OUT.

IT WAS IN STORAGE PREVIOUSLY SINCE 1954. I AM GETTING A 1996 EXT. CAB WITH A WHEELBASE OF 122.9 AND THE BUICK IS 121.5 SO I DO NOT THINK IT WILL BE A PROBLEM IN REDUCING IT THAT LITTLE. MY QUESTION TO YOU IS: HOW GOOD CAN THAT BE OF A CLOSE MATCH TO MOUNT THE 53 ON IT. I SEE YOU HAVE MADE TWO COMMENTS ON IT RECOMMENDING IT. PLEASE LET ME KNOW OF ANY MAJOR HEADACHES I WILL ENCOUNTER. Thank you all, but the main reason in replacing the torque tube is that I can not have a visual at any time of its components in the joint on the rear end as it would be with a normal joint and in front either. I don't think anyone that has done what I am attempting to do with mine has seen this post as I have not gotten any answers for it. Thank you again
  15. Hi y'all. New here even though much older than my Buick. As i am 76 yrs. old and on a fixed income I can not go around to junk yards and ask people there what I need. They would just sell me anything. I need to know from someone that has done what I am about to do to my Buick. I want to get rid of the torque tube and install and open drive rear end. What rear end I need? Not, I think this would fit or that one but I have heard, and so on. I need to know again from someone who has done it and gotten good results. The same goes for the front clip if I should want to cut the frame and install one. WHICH ONE ? Thinking about swapping the frame if I could figure out which one would be the closest one I could use without too many changes. I have hoists, all tools needed, just lack of energy so I have to do the easiest one possible. PLEASE if you have undertaken any of these three chores AND DONE IT TO A 1953 BUICK SPECIFICALLY, then Please try to help me with this.
