  1. Does anyone have a picture of the diagram with the order to tighten the head bolts on a Pontiac l8 268? Also can't find the torque specs for this year (1954) engine anywhere online. The car had the high compression head not sure if that makes a difference in torque spec.
  2. Yep, just tried that, fuel pump works fine. Starting to think it must be a vacuum leak.
  3. My flathead 8 pontiac cranks but won't start. It fires but only enough to make the engine spin really fast. It will run for a second if I pump the heck out of the accelerator. I know the spark and timing is good. The carb was rebuilt and no valves are stuck. Any ideas?
  4. At this point I am fairly certain that the engine is partially seized. I am getting oil pressure but there is sludge in the valve cover. Might try putting some marvel mystery oil in the crank case.
  5. The starter is getting 5.6 volts when cranking. Is it possible the previous owner put an armature in designed for a 12v starter.
  6. Tried everything mentioned in this thread. Car still cranks slow unless spark plugs are out. The generator is not hooked up to the car. didn't think it would make a difference but I am running out of ideas. Is the generator necessary for starting?
  7. I am using 00 gauge battery cables on both positive and negative terminals.
  8. My 1953 Buick special wont crank fast enough with a 6 volt battery. I had it running with a 12 volt battery but I can't use that one permanently without adding resistors. its not the starter or solenoid both are refurbished. Thanks for any help
  9. I bought the Chevy floor braces, fits well on the frame. Doesn't work with the old floor under the drivers seat. The old floor was rotted anyway so i'll make the new floor to fit. If anyone else is having the same problem the Chevy 150 floor braces fit pretty good in my Buick special with little modifications.
  10. The floor in my Buick is rusted through along with the floor braces. I was able to find some new floor pans at classic2current fabrication. The floor braces are more difficult to get. I was wondering if anyone knew about 53 Chevrolet floor braces being used in a Buick of the same year. The X frame has a 'bulge' where the X is and the floor pan needs to clear it. I am not trying to make a rat rod but I am not worried about keeping it original either. Thanks in advance for any help.
  11. The points were missing a piece of insulating cloth and it was grounding on the distributor.
  12. Got it working. Thanks for the advice.
  13. Tried what Bloo said. Test light still on with points closed. ?
  14. I have a 1953 buick special that won't spark. New points and condenser. New sparkplugs. No spark from coil. Coil is getting electricity. Any ideas?
  15. The post with the can of PB blaster on it needs to be replaced. This is a 1953 buick special. If anyone knows of any parts for sale please tell me.
