Only problem with this technique is that the fender needs to be removed.

I have the same problem with my 1988 Reatta, I have yet to have it fixed. I did find a site on U Tube describing a fix for this kind of problem. Under plastic auto body fixes using staples sounds like a winner. Good luck.
