  1. After testing with the batteries, I've found that the dictograph isn't working properly. Though, here's my wiring so far.
  2. I finally got an updated pic this morning!!!
  3. Old Car Journey Just posted this ~9 minute video showing how to start this particular old car. It's meant for more of a lay audience and I know it can be better. Nothing like exposing yourself to a forum of experts to reveal my technical shortcomings! : )
  4. Coming soon! I'm anticipating the return of my freshly "spun" headlight rings from the finisher. In the mean time, I have started a web site and Instagram page to document the car, it's history and my tentative plans for it. www.OldCarJourney.com #OldCarJourney
  5. Thank you for that additional context. Hopefully, I'll manage with my 1919, Inside Drive Limousine. I'm planning a drive from Southern California to Norther Idaho over a 10 day period (~150 miles per day).
  6. As an owner of a Cunningham, I'm confused by these comments. Not impressive ride compared to what? I have a modern car that gets me around quite comfortably.
  7. Yes, sans the wood wheels and cylinder headlamps. I've got loads of pics and documentation at OldCarJourney.com
  8. I have this one in hand, first attempt, I didn't get it working, but I'll have more time later this week to fiddle with it.... "KNACRO DC-DC 12V 6-22V to 3V 3A 9W Step-Down Power Supply Module" https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B8M8QR8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  9. Hello, Just ordered 2 replacement 1.5 volt R40 dry cell batteries to power the Motor Dictograph in my family's Cunningham Inside Drive Limousine. The batteries are wired in series. The vehicle is also outfitted with a 12 volt axillary system to power turn signals and removable fan (to circulate air in the cab), etc. I was hoping to connect a step-down voltage regulator (12v>>3volt) to power the dictograph from there, but it didn't seem to work. I will wait for the new batteries to confirm the dictograph still functions, but if any of you more versed in electrics could tell me whether trying to hard wire this is folly, I'd appreciate it.
  10. Question: I understand that a "restomod" would not be following the true intent of this topic, but are there mods that are reasonable for things like safety? For example, if the color is right, is it acceptable to upgrade bulbs to led lights for reliability/safety? (Any leads/links on the best ways to do this with a 6V system?). My 1920 car did have tail/brake lights fitted in 1974 (removable), which I intend to keep in use. Also, what about seat belts? Are lap belts worth fitting? In todays modern standards, would I be unreasonably putting my 8-year old at risk by taking him on a longer trips with me? I generally know what I will be doing on these, but appreciate any of your input/perspectives... THANK YOU
  11. Thank you for this topic. I’ve read through most of the entries and have found it quite helpful and encouraging. But, I have the wrong story, which I’m working to change. I have had in my “care” for the last 35 years a one-family car that my Great Grandfather bought new. This last year I nearly convinced myself to sell it. But, digging into my records, I realized that if my Grandfather and his Dad can drive this car over 130,000 miles between 1920 and 1932, I should be able to do it more justice and get it back on the road. My Grandfather had it fully restored in the 1970’s and I’ve had various things addressed over the years for a couple of shows. But the sad fact is that the car has only seen a couple hundred miles on the road. This I plan to change. And it will be a story worth sharing! Thanks for further inspiration!
