  1. Detroitsoul, when I imported my 38 in 1996 it had one 38 lense and one 39 lense. It was 3 months before I saw the difference! Both lenses were securely held, didnt fall off when driving. I eventually swapped the one 39 lense for two 38 lenses. Sounded a pretty good deal to me. When they arrived by overseas airmail shipping they were both broken into several pieces!! Each lot of broken lense pieces were in separate sealed plastic bags. I pieced them together and discovered one piece was in the wrong bag. Hmmm. Eventually got another 38 lense and its still in place to this day. The 39 FORD lense trim looks similar but is a bit smaller than the Zephyr trim. Maybe you have a Ford lense trim on the drivers side headlite or a complete Ford bucket. . Just had a second look at your headlite pics, the passenger side lense looks a bit twisted, is it secure. Cheers 38 Shortop Conv.
  2. Cool stuff!! So are you saying this is the original plate that was on the car when new. If not its still cool. cheers, 38 Shortop conv.
  3. Take all the shoes to a brake shop, get them to even the linings up and " radius grind" all the linings in pairs to match their individual brake drum internal diameter.
  4. Gerry, Yes as we know the rear wheel bearings have a grease nipple at the underside of the backing plate. The brake hub has a outer sleeve and the axle housing a inner sleeve for the wheel bearing to run in. Both these sleeves can wear especially the axle housing sleeve, check the underneath of the axle housing sleeve for wear [pitting] that"s where the load bearing weight is. Both these sleeves are replaceable. If you can lift the wheel up with a lever when fitted then there is wear somewhere there. Unfortunately the Diff. has to be split to replace the axle sleeve, although some say it can be changed in place!!? Happy Daze, Roy
  5. The axle end will float in the axle housing with the hub off. The hub tapper supports the axle once the hub is fitted. I believe the axle and hub tappers should be grease free, cleaned up and packed with chalk dust for dryer fit with a new key for better grip and drive. Torque axle nut to 90 Lbs !! plus.
