  1. Not a Ford dealership, but historically interesting anyway... THEN: NOW: SAN JOSE, CA
  2. Contrary to the seller's description, this car does not appear to exhibit any of the specific characteristics of a Kaiser "Dragon". But I certianly am no Kaiser expert. Note the reference following these pictures for more "Dragon" information. https://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/d/murray-1951-kiaser-golden-dragon-door/7525486432.html I have a nice running and driving Golden Dragon it maybe the only one left in 2 door. There was only 400 produced in 1951. And less then half was 2 doors. Its all original even the paint. I can send videos of it running. Call or text Cory at (509)850-7000 Here's more information on the Kaiser Dragon than you probably want to know: https://www.curbsideclassic.com/automotive-histories/automotive-history-1951-53-kaiser-dragon-altered-beast/

  4. This is going to happen sooner or later... I think that there is a great opportunity for investment profit for those with foresight. Gas stations and other businesses are adding electric car charging stations at an increasing rate. The technology is here and those willing to research the future potential and speculate to some degree may very well be rewarded. Just my opinion. (Did you buy Microsoft or Amazon stock ?)
  5. I know "stop and go" driving is generally harmful to a car. What I don't know is "What EXACTLY is stop and go driving?". My situation: I own and drive two large displacement late '60's V-8's (one Ford, one Buick), neither being a high-performance version. Neither one accumulates much more than 500 miles a year. A typical trip may be 10-20 miles, one way, then after a stop of 15 minutes to up to several hours, we return home. The engines do seem to reach full operating temperature before they are turned off. Both engines have been recently rebuilt with heads and valves designed for current gas specs. Oil changes are around the 1000 mile mark and I add a zink addative. Am I wearing out these engines? Should I do more to prevent wear? Unfortunately longer and more frequent use is not an option as I am fortunate enough to drive them as often as I do. Any help with my questions will be greatly appreiated.
  6. Great looking car, Herman. Please post more pictures as you finish your project I presume that you are looking for what we call "bulb holders or sockets". (see pictures below). These are available from many internet sellers including Amazon, RockAuto, eBay, Summit Racing, Napa Auto Parts, Ace Hardware and most any auto supply store in the USA. I am sorry I am not familiar with suppliers outside the US, but other members may be able to help. These parts should not be difficult to find nor expensive. '
  7. (Link to video, below:) This 500K Special Roadster has a full interior and an engine with moving parts. We love wood-carved cars here at Motor1.com, and this classic Mercedes is one of the best we've seen. Truth be told, all the wooden creations we've featured here are the best, but this 1936 Mercedes-Benz tugs particularly hard on our heartstrings with its exceptional attention to detail, both on the outside and within. This particular build comes from the Awesome Woodcraft YouTube channel, and we can't say enough about the detail on this car. It's a beautiful replica of a 1936 Mercedes-Benz 500K Special Roadster, itself one of the most beautiful cars ever built. As per usual, the project starts with chunks of wood for all the major components with large table saws used to cut out the general shapes. From there, it's all about chisels, hammers, sanders, and a whole lotta skill. We're particularly impressed with the construction of the Merc's wire wheels. They are also made of wood, and we wouldn't be the least bit disappointed to see solid wheels with some chiseled features mimicking spokes. Instead, wooden tires are shaped on a lathe, then connected to a wooden hub with a series of cut toothpicks to create the spokes. Even the chunky tire tread is recreated to perfection. The Mercedes-Benz straight-eight engine also starts life as rectangular chunks of wood, and it received a similar level of detail with a moving fan and pulleys connected by a thread belt. The long engine even boasts spark plug wires, and to make sure it's not hidden from sight, the car is given a proper hinged hood to show off all the work. The interior also has hinged doors and even greater detail, right down to a quilted leather pattern on the doors and stitches on the seats. And it's all done by hand with a chisel. The end result is a car with rolling wheels, functional steering, and a beautiful finish that is simply stunning to behold. The video doesn't say how long the project took, but you're definitely looking at hours upon hours of labor condensed into 20 minutes. It's not a wooden car you can actually drive, but with such intricate detail work, this is a legit piece of automotive art. 8. I have been buying automotive maintenance items at local auto parts stores for over 50years. I don't own or drive any antique, exotic, foreign or classic cars. I have always been able to purchase what I call standard maintenance items for my 30 to 50 year old cars and pick-ups at local chain or independent auto supply shops when needed. Get the part in the morning and do the minor repair in the afternoon. Well, it seems like things are changing in the parts supply business. Many items that only a year or two ago were "in stock" locally such as points and plugs, radiator hoses and caps, wiper blades, oil and air filters, light bulbs, gasket sets and other "Saturday morning" maintenance items are now "special order", or need to be sent in from a regional warehouse, or back-ordered with no promise date, or simply unavailable. I acknowledge the effects of the recent pandemic and "supply chain problems", but this is generic at all six or more auto supply stores in my area. Sometimes, by the time I call or arrive at the third or fourth store, I can find what I need - even if it is a "universal fit" part made in some third-world country, I can use it at least temporarily in a pinch. Why is there no lack of items on the local store's shelves? $30+ per gallon oil, battery powered gizmos I've never heard of, spray this and spray thats, polish, deoderants, addatives, camp chairs, back packs, empty tool boxes, rubber mats, key rings and cup holders. No shortage there! Why can I find exactly what I'm looking for on the Internet? It takes a little planning due to shipping times, and, sometimes, despite the description, I get the wrong item, but the pandemic generally hasn't reduced the availability or increased the difficulty of getting the simple parts I need from non-brick and mortar sources - and prices aren't outrageous. (Specialty parts are a whole different story and not part of my discussion.) So, here are my questions: 1) Is the lack of "in-store stocked" parts just a local issue, or are others seeing the same thing in other areas? 2) Are parts for older cars becomming "non-stocked specialty parts" and continue to get more difficult to find? 3) Are auto parts stores all becomming "Accessory Stores" as fewer people do their own auto maintenance? What are your thoughts and recent experiences?
  9. I thought I would add my two cents worth here and show a few of the license toppers I have collected over the years. The top and bottom toppers are cast aluminum like the Tucson one, the middle one is thin sheet metal. There are more sizes, shapes, and designs than you can imagine. Many insurance companies, oil companies, motor clubs, even trade unions and political candidates would issue them to customers, members and constituents to display on their cars. Enameled and plated ones were not unusual. They make neat collectibles.
  10. Back in the early 1960's an aquaintance of mine was a middle school teacher in Fresno, California. He had a serious interest in classic cars, but on a teachers salary, it was difficult to find an affordable car even then. But luck was on his side. Looking through the classified ads in a two year old magazine, he found an ad for an L-29 Cord for sale in the San Fernando Valley, further south in California. The price and description seemed reasonable; he'd have to stretch the budger somewhat, but $2500. did not seem impossible. He called the seller on the chance the car might still be available or that he could be directed to the buyer if it had been sold. Upon calling, the seller said there was little intertest in the car when it was advertised, so he'd covered it and kept it in storage, not trying to sell it again. The teacher made arrangements to inspect the car as soon as he could and proceeded south to see what he could see. When he arrived, the seller walked him to a storage shed and rolled he doors open. Under the covers was the car pictured below, in pristine condition under the covers. The car was a 1930 Murphy-bodied L-29 Town Car used by the famous actor John Barrymore, and once owned by the movie studio for which he worked. The seller said he was anxious to sell the car and offered it to the teacher for $1500! Needless to say, the deal was immediately consumated. After some very minor maintenance, the car was driven back north to Fresno. To make this long story a little shorter, the teachers name was Nyle Reed, who sadly passed away around 2015, after many, many years of enjoying his Cord. To my knowledge, after some period of storage, a very knowledgeable Cord expert contacted Nyle's widow and restored the car to running condition - no cosmetics required. Ms. Reed drove the car for the first time ever after it was running reliably again and has shown it in many Southern California venues. This is all well documented on the internet, pictures, interviews, etc. Most interesting.
  11. Here's a selction of project cars all from the same decade, all priced relatively close, and all needing varying degrees of effort (and $$) to "bring them to the next level". They are all currently for sale on Craigslist. Compare what you see (and don't see) and comment. Would you consider purchasing any of them if they were for sale in your area? Would you rebuild/repair/restore any of them? Are any worth the time and expense to make them reliable drivers , much less restoration candidates? Since they are all priced within a few hundred dollars of eachother, do you think there are values here or just pipedreams? Click on the cl listing for more photos of each vehicle. 58 Chrysler Saratoga 2 Dr. Hdtp - $4,995 (Wenatchee WA) Very Restorable Project ... Very Litle Rust ... Also one of the first 4,000 (arguably) with the original TriStar hood emblem prior to change so it's not to conflict with Mercedes-Benz. The car underwent a 5 year full mechanical restoration two owners ago and more than a decade ago and was left on blocks in the backyard after that owner passed away with less than 60 miles on the new drivetrain. Was then purchased from the estate by an associate who put it back up to speed and on the road at which point it was driving beautifully however had a half done electrical system. It was then semi disassembled in order to detail and repaint the engine compartment and start the 6 volt to 12 volt conversion. Events occurred leading the project to be shelved without completion as is how it stands to date. Mechanical restoration as stated above include full engine rebuild (factory232 v-8). Complete transmission and overdrive rebuild. Suspension and steering rebuild and replacement. Including steering box. Complete brake system overhaul nut and bolt. Understand that while everything has been gone through and done new, and it did drive very well a year or so ago, but work was done over a decade ago. Car was refreshed just over a year ago and many things will probably need re-addressing as a result of sitting. There are boxes of parts and many duplicates of parts and anything seen missing in the photos is in those boxes with the exception of the only thing not found was the front beltline trim just underneath the windshield. Gage console is out of a 1955 Studebaker presidential for reasons unknown. Rear view mirror is believed to be out of a 65 rambler station wagon. All latches hinges window regulators door operation and window operations including trunk and hood latch operate very well and easily as they should. The floor boards are rusted. This is a project car in need of completion and is not functioning at the moment. Do not expect to come and hear it run. https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/d/sacramento-1953-studebaker-commander/7492157603.html
  12. Is there a conspiricy out there saying the poorer the condition of the car, the more the sales price should be? ...some kind of inverse logic taking over the country?
  13. I recall my British friend and business partner frequently using this term 60 years ago, mostly related to primitive computers and their quirks. He wasn't into motor cars. There were a number of other uniquely British expressions he used, some became more commonplace over the years, some did not.

  16. This "Steam Buggy" is for sale, part of an estate, so there may not be anyone left who's familiar with it. The Question is, Trash or treasure? A real relic or somebody's home built hobby cart? There appears to be some vintage horseless carriage parts there, as well as some crude additions. Take a look at the Craigslist listing, below, for more details. https://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/d/chewelah-steam-buggy/7499188008.html

  20. What would be the estimated cost if one were to "take the opportunity to restore" the above car to the condition of the one below? Don't forget the asking price of $18k. What would be an estimated auction value after a show circuit tour? P.S. Seller states "title missing". (Unless there's something here I dont see or understand, is this a reasonable project?)
  21. To whom and where? I have a bridge I'd like to sell and maybe some riverfront property in Yellowstone, too.
