Another year and another clean bill of health from the State boiler inspector. As usual we had a wonderful visit with Greg and we greatly appreciate his professionalism and knowledge - great day spent with good people! If only visits to the local DMV were this pleasant!

The only surprise we had was finding an illicit stash of acorns on top of the crown sheet. Apparently the blowdown valve had been left open and a critter decided to take advantage of it.

next task is washing out the boiler and buttoning it all back up.

That’s fantastic! My grandfather made boilers for N&W here at the Roanoke shops from 21-52 and I’m still amazed at how they built them!

Btw,  something that I've only figured out in the last 5 years or so,  50% of all collector cars have some kind of title issue.

    1.  No title.

    2.  Skipped title.

    3.  Lost Title.

    4.  Serial Number is wrong on title.

It is actually amazing and shocking.

Yes, very shocking. The frequency of this especially with a deceased family members car is very common.

I like your screw jack. I have about six of those in different sizes. I feel a lot safer using them than I do with hydraulic bottle jacks.

That’s actually a jack that was my wife’s grandfather's I restored. I have a big hydraulic bottle jack that’s heavier and seemed overkill. I do have a model T jack that seemed a little to light. That one worked perfectly

One of the worst things is being forced to listen to music you hate. I have a friend, Joe. Outstanding die maker, that got a job in a shop that played an endless loop of show tunes. He finally had to quit. Couldn't get them out of his head. Sometimes when our group is sitting around a camp fire, half in the bag, someone will start belting out Ethyl Mermon doing "There's no business like show business" as a joke at Joe's expense. Just a few bars is all it takes...........Bob

    Yep, that indeed sounds miserable

When i,m working, especially if i,m concentrating on a problem or delicate operation, i like the delicious sound of silence.

When i listen to music i listen without distraction. When i work i work witout distraction.

Trying to do both lessens both.....bob

One of the best lathe guy’s I’ve ever met was exactly the same. He’d walk away from his machine with any radio noise. I understand that and respect it completely

I played in a band in my younger days, Sharp dressed man was on the playlist!

Nice! I was very young when it came out and my older brother got the record. We played the heck out of it on the old Tv-Stereo combo. Record player one side and radio on the other. I’m a 76 model and still remember tv’s that were furniture. I even remember some putting newer tv’s on top of the old ones to keep using the stereo! Lol
