It will cost you over $100,000 to send it to someone qualified to restore it. You will be able to sell it for $18,000-24,000 once it is completed.
If you also received a seven figure plus inheritance, and this car is a family heirloom, and you are passionate about pre war cars, then I would do it.
if not I would sell it.

Blue looks “wrong” or more specifically a modern color.

I do not have a facebook account and will never have one. I do use my wife's account to watch a couple of groups, the Phantom II society and the Condensing Stanley page.
Everybody needs to understand that ALL open Packards on a desirable chassis are suspect. Because of that when you are selling your 745 Roadster or your 34 12 Coupe Roadster you need to provide as much history as possible to achieve the highest price. People pick their price points based on the high auction number they may see on a particular car. But it is never apples to apples. That auction car may be a 3 owner car that the seller has 1,000,000 invested and is selling it for 500k.
The car we are talking about here was clearly restored in the 80s or 90s based on the colors and accessories. To achieve top price for the first thing I would do is throw every accessory in the trash and put blackwalls on it. Then I would research and write up as accurate a history for as far back as possible. If you can at least get it back in to the 60s or even better 50s with that body on you can probably start asking for a pretty high price.
I feel bad when I see this because it makes me think its an estate and the wife or kids don't know what to do.
Don’t feel too bad. They are asking $290k more than what it sold for 13 years ago.

Pretty sure this is the car.
I think it was once in the John O’Quinn collection.

Are those the correct wheel covers?
They look like the ones that came on Eldorados/60 Specials.
1959 62 and deville hubcaps on this 1960. Also very wrong white wall width.

I have converted a 1960 to a dual master cylinder (from a 1966 drum brake car) in the process outlined in the link above. Not sure why it wouldn’t work for 1957.

The dual cowl stutz would look pretty good in red, too:

Interesting comparison to the Rollston, which brought 1.5 million. Theoretically identical chassis with a slightly less desirable body. I wonder why there is a $1.3 million difference in sale value? And from the same collection.
Imagine the dual-cowl stutz in black with black-walls. Sweet!

Matt, thanks for sharing all of this. Your perseverance is extraordinary.

I agree. No one wants to lose their shirt on a restoration that takes 2-4 years for a pre war production car. And the collector car market is shifting. New money (people in their 20s-50s) are not into prewar cars. They may develop an interest later in their life depending upon their financial situation.
The future is sports cars from the 1950s-through the 2010s. European and JDM.
The major-major-league pre war cars will continue but a Lamborghini Diablo won a class award at Pebble Beach this past weekend. No one would believe that 5 years ago.

Some Cadillac guys are using this ( they make a bracket to fit this to the original holes). 1938-47.

I am normally a purest, but after having a similar event in a single circuit break system, I converted to a dual circuit master cylinder.

Did Gooding’s lawyers get to the admins?
The crash photo of the green car is gone.

And Gooding has this one:

I would leave the color alone and just drive it. By the way, the black walls look great.
there are two other individual customs for sale in Monterey this August:
Mecum is still trying to sell this convertible sedan again:

In 2023, she will be fortunate to get $15k for it. Assuming that is is running and driving with no obvious issues.

I’m considering a 1938 Cadillac Series 65 4 door convertible - your thoughts on value and any historical problem areas with these cars

I would value it similar to this 41-62 convertible sedan that Mecum just sold for $40,700. (Dealer now asking $59k).

The 38-65 is a rarer car but I don’t think that makes much difference in 2024.
If you like the car, offer $40k. It may take a few months but I bet you own the car before the fall.
