  1. Hey folks I installed an electric wiper motor two years ago.  Everything worked great until it didn't.  My wipers do operate with full range of motion that they should operate with.  They don't go all the way down or all the way up.  The range they do move is from the middle of what the range is and then about 2 inches up and down from that.  wiper motor runs and sounds normal.  any tips I will attach a link to a youtube video

I have a couple of 55 red lines that I was going to use in a 54 hot rod project that I no longer have a use for. One is very nice used, one was restored. I also have a very nice driver quality speedo and gauge set. PM me if interested.

But to answer your question, I have used Bob's Speedometer A couple of times in the past and always happy with their service.

I know the post is old any chance you would still have them? Would the red liner fit on a 55 special?  Is it the speedometer/odometer combo?

    Thanks

That pipe is supposed to go to the heat stove in the exhaust manifold.  What car is this? It may or may not even have one.  And yes, you need to reconnect it to make the choke work.

sorry for the delayed response.  it is a 55 buick special I can't seem to find the spot it goes into on the manifold. my understanding is the pipe goes in one side and comes out the other. I can't find either hole.  There is what feels like a back plate on the back side of the manifold. I thought I read something about that being one of the hole locations for the heat pipe.

That is probably the wrong carburetor for a 55 since the heat tube connection to the choke housing should be at the back or side.  You have apparently bypassed the fuel pump at the right front of the car and used rubber lines.  Any fuel line on top of the engine should be steel.  When not if those rubber lines failed near the distributor you will have a Krispy critter.  Also don't depend on spring clamps on a pressurized line.

Yes I agree I want to change them to steel lines front to back.  I'm a little concerned that it isn't the right carb on my car. seems to be making it difficult to get the right parts.  Question I'm having difficulty finding the two spots on the manifold where the pipe goes in and comes out the other side.  also does the heat wrap go into the Manifold as well?

The short pivot shaft mounted on the throttle lever at the carb connecting to the throttle rod from accelerator at 3:00 looks loose…see what you think unless you were still working on it.

Also isn’t the the hot air tube (copper colored pipe at 9:00) supposed to go to a high heat source in the exhaust manifold vs open air else when you buy the cover it will look marvelous but open late and run rich.  Lastly even if you have electric wipers make sure that vacuum hose at 12:00 is not sucking open air and is plugged if so.

Get a shop manual and read the carb section.  If not then bookmark Hometown Buick.  Don’t see a tag on the carb for a number to reference the manual, so it’s,hard to tell if it’s the right one for the car but if it’s running decent and you want to assume it is the correct model WGD until proven wrong it’s a start…

Disregard if you already had that link.  Web searches will reveal sources for new/used thermostatic cover if you know the carb #.  If not any carter 2bbl cap might physically fit but the thermostatic spring mounted inside the cover may be “clocked” differently at the setup temp of 70F or have a different spring rate than the correct original.  It could probably be adjusted to work it may not sit on the “ index” mark when you set it up or open the choke at the right rate but at least you’d have a functional choke. If you get the carb number sorted out someone on the team could get you the part number for the correct cap.  You’ll need the 2-3 machine screws to hold it on plus the retainers that go under the screws which you could probably fabricate.

There are a couple of things deserving attention first IMHO, past forum threads probably have what you’re looking for on heat source, repair, reference photos, etc and be good0 research time.

first off thanks for all the info.  secondly there are to lines here one that is cut and the second one runs up to that tube that is attached to nothing in the other pics ( I think it's the old vacuume hose for the wipers) I also have an electric fuel pump.

    thanks again

  7. Hi there. I am struggling.  I have 1955 buick special that I installed a new choke cover and spring.  The car was running well for a few days. I drove it about 100 miles or so and then it puttered out.  I managed to limp home with it.  My first question is about choke adjustment 20230624_103325.jpg.5f4d10cda1880ac445e7545641da81dc.jpg First off previous owner pinched off the line that runs from choke to manifold.  Car is not run in cold weather so I am wondering if this impacts anything? Secondly there are no markings on the choke cover to mark the correct setting, so how do I determine the correct setting.?

I am also assuming since the choke cover is supposed to come with a gasket that it is then meant to be tightened full so the cover does not move, is this correct.?   when I do get it to start it sounds airy like a wind sound. more wind than motor growl.  but when I slightly push the accelerator from under the hood it sounds a bit better but  as soon as I release accelerator and it returns to idle speed it stalls out.  Do I adjust the timing ?  Not sure if that is in my skill set or not..

Finally Oil pressure. When driving oil pressure goes to High on the guage and Stays there.  what should I check to troubleshoot as I think it should be in the normal range when driving

As always thanks to my fellow Buick enthusiasts for helping out

I'm guessing that's a Carter WCD. What is the year and application?

Choke coils for these carbs are available from multiple sources. Carbking on this site can probably help as well.

What E-brock carb and adapter are you talking about? Using one of those 4bbl-into-2bbl adapters is kind of ridiculous, since the 2bbl opening in the intake is the restriction. The new carb would be a complete waste of time and money, not to mention the effort to get it jetted correctly with that convoluted flow path.

Hey Joe it's a 55 buick special wcd 2 barrel Carb.  Yes your correct I scrapped the Edelbrock idea almost immediately after making the post

  9. Hi folks long time reader first time poster (I think)

I have a few questions regarding parts of the carburetor

The climatic control (automatic Choke) is broke as seen in picture.  Where can I find a replacement.  Also might consider going to Edlebrock carb and adaptor plate or new intake manifold. thoughts?

Secondly to the right of the choke in the picture there is a metal what i think is a vacuum hose that is pinched or clamped off.  What is this hose? Where does it go and what does it do? and finally should I rec0nnect it as the car was running fine without it.

Again thanks to this awesome group of enthusiasts for helping me in my time of need20230531_083322.jpg.771843d7c4db58ea93bd1d5af7f8d93a.jpg

  10. Hey everyone we are newbs.  A few weeks back our Buick found us

We made a wrong turn, passed by a dealership that was closing and the owner was liquidating his inventory.  Long story short we bought her and named her Frida (Kahlo).  I work in Youth Justice and my beautiful partner is an Artist and Teacher.  We put a rebuilt radiator in her, changed the thermostat and thermostat housing cover is on order.  She needs some interior work upholstery and one of the levers for the heat the knob broke off. We also found a 55 special rolling Chassis with operational motor and cowl and steering wheel and components.  Got that parts car for 800 dollars.  I suffer from PTSD due to my line of work and this car has given me a new outlook on life.  We look forward to meeting people in this forum and any tip you folks have please share.
