  1. I really like this era of auto, and maybe someday I will own one. This looks like a really nice car but I suppose I will say the emperor has no clothes! The upright windshield looks off to me, as well as the doors look too stubby for the proportions of the car. To me it looks like a model A on steroids. Dont get me wrong, I would take ownership in a heartbeat if the opportunity was there.

  2. Looking good. There is a way to prevent water. Sounds like your contractor is on the right track. In the commercial building world we would use a drainage system that put a primer on the wall, then a moisture barrier that was similar to roofing ice shield only about 5 times thicker. It would come in 4 ft rolls that glued to the primer. The seams were all sealed as well. Then a corrugated drain board (actually another roll of material) would go on. Backfilled with a gravel to allow drainage and a series of drain pipes connected. Never had a water problem! After putting these systems in I laugh at tar foundation coating!

  3. One doesnt need 20 acres and a 30,ooo sf shop to restore a car!  I restored my car in the space of a one car garage. Yes I will add at the time I had a 3 car garage but the space was limited to one bay. My wife will not tolerate her car setting outside, it has not done so in almost 40 yrs. I did a rotisserie restore, and painted in that small space. Now the car is parked in that bay. So a one car garage bay will suffice. I know people that have restored cars with less!

  4. I think the waterproof floor would hold up fine, BUT I am not sure that the uneven pressure from being driven on would not open the joints. I have been very tempted to put some down as a test just to see how it would react. Another thought I had was to put up a runner for the tires on top of the laminate to help spread the weight. I may get to it one day, I will let you know what I find out.

  5. I have the same mentality, that 'I may be able to use this' or 'this is too good to throw away'. My shop and barn are full! I need a purge. I am so bad that every 4 or 5 months we do a clean out and even as Im throwing stuff into the bin at the dump I will do a second take and think do I really want to throw this away? On a rare occasion I have brought stuff back home with me. My problem is that we do a wide variety of jobs. From painting and drywall to bathrooms and tile work to building decks. Architectural millwork and most things in between. So we end up with all kinds and varieties of leftovers. Most of the time I try to return unused items but things slip by and we end up packed  with one of these and one of those that dont mean anything anymore. Thats when the purge comes into play.

  6. A bear, what is your general area?

Here in MD the 'car show season' started a couple of weeks ago. From now until Memorial day there will be a couple of shows each weekend. I know of 3 this Saturday within about a 20 mile radius. I went to a small one last Saturday but only stayed for about a half hour then went for a nice long drive. I dont mind shows all that much but for the first couple of years my car was on the road I went to everyone I could get to. I burned out quickly doing that. In the last 2 or 3 years I have gone to very few. I found that the drive to get there was more enjoyable than sitting around for a few hours doing nothing. I do try to get to the cars n coffee cruise ins. People show up and leave when they want, and nothing formal going on.

I like all old and some not so old cars. When I go to a show I like to walk around and see what is there. It amazes me how many people go and put up a campsite beside their vehicle and wont move after that. Thinking their car is the best one there and no need to look at anything else. Then there are the people that wont talk to you about their car when approached, like you are bothering them. All kinds of people show up and it makes for a great perspective on life in the car world.

  7. I think you should still be able to get flex additive. That would be a great idea. As far as new paint and clear coat, the stuff I have been using lately has the flex already added because of the amount of plastic on newer cars I suppose.

I think it was El Camino Billy that made the recommendation to paint a tire on your daily driver to see how things hold up. I think I would try the spare or try one on a car that will need new tires soon enough. May look kinda goofy driving around with one grey tire but it will def give you an idea on what and or how long it will hold up.

  8. Not sure I even know what a pilot ray is but I suspect the spare headlights. Not sure why the disdain for those, but in the case of this Duesy I think the white walls look just fine. Not so much on the buick.

By the way, this is exactly what I want my garage to look like. That car parked in it would be the icing on the cake, but I have long dreamed of a garage with a car in it and just about nothing else. Less clutter the better.

  9. Looks like at least the weather was consistent this year. I have gone when it was snowing in the morning, sunny in the afternoon. Another time so windy and cold I about couldnt stand it. Sitting right beside the mountain range surely wreaks havoc on the weather pattern there. I am glad it sounds like a good show.

As for wanderers, I AM THAT guy. I would bet that the guys selling parking, and the gate admissions and the guys selling lunch would disagree about keeping our kind of people away. Like PK I have bought large items for pickup from vendors several times, to save on shipping (but in the long run, the round trip drive, the cost with being there and the extra money spent probably results in spending more than the shipping would have been). There was ONE vendor I knew that was an exclusive Pontiac and more specifically Trans Am oriented. Unfortunately he passed away several years ago and I dont think anyone took over his spot. Most of the time I just go because, same way with Hershey. I dont drink, smoke or chase women (I am waiting until I hit 65 to start those habits) so this is akin to a day in the park for me.

Just sorry I missed again this year.

  10. I too suffer from tinnitus. Background noise and music is a welcome relief. I even need to keep the tv on all night long if I want to get some sleep. As for music in the shop. I can take it or leave it. I have a shop radio tuned to what is now 'oldies'. Mostly 70s-90s stuff. I keep the sirius tuned to 70's music. I was born in 64 and am the youngest of 5 with a 10 yr spread. Obviously did not have computers or cell phones to keep me occupied in my youth. We had a tv in the family and a small one in the kitchen. Nothing in the bedroom so music was the entertainment most of the time. I still have the stereo I got as a Christmas present when I was in the 6th grade! There was a wide variety of albums in my house from the early 60's stuff to current music, early 70's. So I have a very broad range of stuff I listen to. I have handed my albums down to my son but I had many hundreds at one time. I cannot think of the last time I bought any music for any listening device.

  11. I had all intentions of going. I have missed the last few years now. Not really needing any parts currently so its not a big loss on my end but like Hershey I enjoy walking the rows, seeing whats for sale and what people are dragging around behind them. I have a good friend going tomorrow and was planning on meeting up with him, but my workload will keep me close to home instead. I did have a bit of a lull yesterday and went to Hershey for the annual Mustang birthday party. Then Carlisle is currently going on, a couple of shows on Saturday and cars n coffee on Sunday. My wife is good with me and about 1 car event a month, I went to a show last Sat so I may be pushing this one. I will miss it, but theres always next year. My son has taken a liking to mopar stuff (for reasons unbeknownst to me?) and was talking about hitting carlisle for that event. I know its not the same though.
