Hey guys. Thanks all for the nice words. I drove a 1942 willys jeep and a 1943 dodge weapon carrier before this. Also both can reach uo to 45 mph. So i thought this will be a bit more smooth. Its nice that i already have that rare rear diff. Car keeps suprising me. As for the noise from the engine. After the replacement of the valve pushrods (that i had to make shorter to fit) i set all the valves to 017 play. With a cold engine that is. I think i will redo it since i now drove a bit and will set them to 016. when done i will make a small video and place it here. You can also see a bit of the dutch country side.

Today i had the time to take the cover off. Unfortunately i found out that my car was already equipped with a 39 - 10 gear. Whats going on why im not able or scared of driving 50mph with her making so many rpms 😣

Hello all. who can help me located some parts that are needed to lower the rpm of my car? I drive with the stock 4.44 and want to change it in de future. Ive read that the gear from a later model will fit. Hope some one can help.

Indeed. I cannot find the push rods here in the Netherlands. And oldbuickparts also have no stock. So have the car for 3 weeks and already cannot drive it anymore for a period of time. Does anyone know an address that have these parts?

@morganwrite hi. How is it possible that when i did all the valves backlash all looked good. I let the engine idle with the valve cover taken off. All the valves moved and nothing look wrong. Compression per cilinder is also still good. And driving went good except the extra ticking sound in the engine.

Well. Yesterday i was totally freaked out. I have the car for a few weeks. But didnt expect this. What could have caused this?? I called the seller for help in this matter. 3 or so are bent slightly and three are bent to such extent the i cannot get the even out of the enigine. So have to bent them in shape a bit. Unbelieveble that the car still drove.

Hi 1939_Buick. Thanks, I did first read that part of the manual. I have this manual as pDF on my computer. But it didnt mention on how to remove them. Only about the backlash and timing etc. or i missed it twice now :X

Goodmorning all, SInce i have a nasty tick sound in my engine i inspected the valve lash and looks good. But i notice 1 push rod is bent and 2 push rods are not able to turn, i can move them byt hand just a little bit but they dont turn 360 degrees. Now i want to inpect them. I have a 1940 special so i asume i have mechanical valve lifters. Can i just remove the valve cover, make the valve lash bigger and push away the rocker and lift up the pushrod? Or will the valve lifter not come out together? I want to do the inspection toninght because a company needs to know the size of the pushrod so i can order them. Dont have many Buick parts in the Netherlands. Thanks all for the help!

@matt. Thank you for the reassuring words @F&J i dont want to sell the car yet. Just love the look of it and how it brings me to the 1940 in my still original interior. But since i live in the Netherlands i dont have many parts available here and since shipping a whole axle will be out of thexquestion is there something available that will fit in a box to lower my gear ratio? Or is the only way to change the whole axle? I drive quite a bit so it would help to lower the rpm

I am happy with the 50mph. But sounds like my valves are going on a holiday soon. Are there possibilities for different gear orso?

Hi all. since im quite new to these car and always have driven army truck and jeep i was doing research about the buick before buying it. I have read here somewhere on the forum and interweb that cruising at 50mph should be easy. Yesterday i did a longer distance same as today but if i do 50mph i feel the engine still has alot of over power when i push the pedal but at 50mph it sounds the engine is overrevving, temp stays ar 180 and oild pres at 30. Is there something to be done to lower the rpm or was the info i have read wrong? thanks car is a buick 1940 model 41 with original engine

i have an electrical fuel pump on my 40 buick with footpedal start. It starts great since fuel will be filling the floatchamber on ignition, but i now have the only issue that it looks like i have to much fuel pressure. hard to calibrate the carb and unburned fuel in exhaust

Hello all, in the process learning about my car that i now have for a few weeks, i was looking into the carburetor. I hooked a smoke machine to the system to check for leaks and only the airfilter the smoke came out as it should and 1 location on the carburetor. This was strange to my. so i found a picture on ebay with the same hole. I dont understand the meaning of it. Looks like false air can come into the carb this way right? i circled the location of the hole. I have a 1940 Buick special model 41 which is still quite original. starting is with pushing the gaspedal, the carb is a Carter WD-0. Who knows the reason of this hole.
