  1. A friend's brother ,a Corvett fan, liked a movie from 1977 "Corvett Summer".I think Luke SkyWalker was in it wearing diapers. I forget if it was any good.. I did see on release.
  2. Unfortunately there are many instances where one needs to or has to remove thier own seat belt.. How does that pet do it.. You have traped them in if your trouble yourself.
  3. Oh ya! The best old car chase movie. "If I Had a Million" 1932 A story of several folks who get million dollars and what they do with it. One vignett is W.C.Fields with Allison Skipworth/ wife buys a new 32 Ford Phaeton only to have is run into and wrecked by a bad driver. He gets million bucks given to him by an eccentric and buys a fleet used large touring cars and hires drivers for them. Then he and his wife proceed to chase down all the road hoggs they can find and run them off the road one by one. At the end he buys a new 32 Ford sedan only to have it side swiped as he pulls out of the dealership.
  4. Bullitt ,1968 with Steve McQueen The Great Race ,1965 A horrabble yet funny enough B grade or C movie, "Charge of the Model T's"
  5. I love these too. After high school (1979 up) a close pal had a mint condition 68 Chevell. with 4 speed he bought from his brother and a 72 EL-C. We did intake' carbs, cam ,headers and rims on the El-C .Repainted it Super Gloss black with white hood stripes. I use to borrow it to haul Model A Ford parts to swap meets and once trailer towed a 32 Chev ., 200 miles with it..A strong hauler. We rebuilt the transmission with some bullet proof positive shift kit as I recall too. Later on an older friend bought a later model EL-C at an auction with 30.000 miles. It was shxt! A V6 with a crappy 3 on the floor with bull crap linkage that was horrable to shift..In and out of 1st was crazy azz difficult. At 45,000 miles the cam was all done and car could barely pull it's own weight on a flat and floors were rotting out. Maybe a 1979-85 model.I forget?
  6. All fourms eb (or is it ebb?)and flow depending on new interests ,rediscovery, who needs what? and how to questions. Maybe the point in time you mention was a high point of newbee acquisitions and questions that follow etc. Then the dust settles. Look at the old topics...was or were they based on random BS or edification.. Once ,who every is caught up..it will stall till new cars are found by new people or a serious trouble comes up,but that maybe directed to a general forum, which I notice(IS) what happens as more folk hang out there..lurking I don't even recall these cars you mention so I bet there are not hundreds of new want to know and needs things requiring lots of on going post. Info on many older but not ancient cars is more plentiful and their repair easier to find on the web that some forums are really not even needed but for the "I got one too factor" after that what is there to say..? "What color is yours?"
  7. Be carefull that. a vent hole in the master cylinder is not clogged or partly. There is vent between the reservoir and piston. It aids in letting fluid pressure off quickly when the pedal is released . Worse case often seen is in stop and go traffic the brakes slowly build up pressure till the brakes drag or locked up and the car won't budge. If you wait the pressure drops eventually and you go. Forcing to drive car with the brakes dragging will heat up the wheel cylinders and render the wheel cylinders useless as the seal cups over heat and get ruined..They blow out and leak..no brakes.
  8. Neither is a contender..so I'm disqualified Health! Without it your screwed on everything.
  9. I have made many socially distant visits and received visitors through out the nightmare ,practicing proper protocals. Just got my 1st covid shot Monday and suffering a good of deal covid arm ache! Its easing a bit today. For a great visit,on a parts buying and hauling run out of state a few weeks back, I was able to pop in for a nice long but socially distance visit with my past owned 1929 Essex Challenger and it's present owner and family after 29 years of letting the car go. Despite wearing newer exterior chrome a body pin stripe..and racking up 43,000 miles,( now showing 76,000 miles on the meter),the old gal is much as I left her, with her even richer with age 1985 nitrocellulose lacquer paint and my old key fob hanging from the ignition key. The owner ,a friend from my younger days, now 72 and wife 70, had all 3 grown up kids ,2 of their spouses and 3 grand kids on hand ( their bubble)for this over due reacquaintance with a splended well organized buffet style "not to close" dinner attached. After bit of catching up I was offered to take the Essex out for a while with a volunteer Jess ,a daughter now 45 as back seat co-pilot . My muscle memory took over straight off.Opening the hood, turning on the fuel on the vacuum tank and checking that the radiator shutters were closed till we were warmed up enough to start opening them at the dash pull, etc. Pull the choke, pull the stater button and cranked it over. In 2 churns of the starter shes running. Release the left hand Ebrake then into first gear and letting in the cork clutch ,the feel of the high pedal engagment was soooo familar and second nature to me still. Running though those old Hudson Essex straight cut gears without a hint of clash up or down surprised co-pilot Jess ." Even dad clicks some teeth ,we all do,even me, ha.ha.ha." she said. "Rob is the worst,Carolyn ok,but Mom is the best though, she has the patience I guess, she listens to the car better" ."pees dad off how she drives smoother then him,it's very funny". After 30 minutes pleasure driving out and a fuel tip off we get back and my gruff old eyes were a bit soggy inside I will admit, but I held on. Through a sprawling distance dinner Jess mentions how well I handled the old Essex and brought up the shifting comparisons .Oops..bad move? This brought up a hysterical family heated dinner banter. So much so that after dinner and before homemade maple Ice cream(i was drooling for) we had to all take turns in pairs driving the good old ,sport of an Essex ,switching back and forth to judge who was the better driver. A clipboard was dug out and a challenging 3 mile out and back route planed, which included a step hill climb that required a down shift through the middle of sharp trun and a deap stop on a very steep grade, twice ,and some other tricky spots of spinning the wheel while shifting on the fly at a good speed before you bogg down. Included for extra fun the engine breaking down shift decending the step grade . We avoided the often dreaded shift to low (silently) at speed 3-7 mph or better as most folks learn only to hit low at a stop or near it. That shift only us oldster grease monkeys seem fit to use. I was disqualified and to be judge and was not to give any tips on shift etiquette . As expected the harder they tried to drive smooth the worse they all got,but all were better then the average crash box shifter . After a fun and tough competition it was a well deserved ice cream desert (i had a side of bourbon too ,I earned it)to cool down . Offered to stay the night,I was only 2-1/2 hours from home and deceided to continue on,but not without us all promising to keep in better touch and see each every year and not every 29 years . That old Essex had left a mushy spot in my gut a mile wide and just as deep ,not so much from the past but from the present. She is in great hands and it's already figured out when the day comes how the kids or probably their kids will share it. 😀😀😀😀😀😀🐕🐕
  10. It's Brookfield Connecticut. Who proof reads their Craigs postings?...only an anal spelling Nazi does. To shirt life ,opps ,to short life to bother. Ya just rip off an ad ,quick and dirty and cross your fingers. .
  11. Opps-! Looking for a radiator splash apron for the 1927 Chrysler 70 in pretty good shape. Surface rust is fine.
  12. In the 60s a family friend with a Model A woody, would tow bar it back and forth to Cape Cod a few times a year for years. They had a special tow bar made for it that bolted up to the front bumper brackets after removing the simple bumper. On an early trip they saw an identical Model A woody start to pass them on the right .As they slowed down to have it catch up they saw their car was gone! and the supposed twin roll off the safety lane on to the grass and drift into the tree line un- damaged. From the constant flexing of the hard spring steel ,(then only 35 year old) bumper bracket pair cracked and broke . From then on they would tightly safety chain both tow bar ends to the both sides of the front axle were the radius rod(wishbone ) bolted.. Never happened again. I ended up with the tow bar 15 years later.Used it alot..Till I let a dirty old high end car collector, borrowed it ..A lawyer...I never saw it again, but saw HIM 10 years later at a meet chatting it up with others ,a few of I knew.. I didn't hesitate to shame him.. Watching his face turn puce was great!
  13. I still have plenty of those old Stanley screw drivers with the amber plastic handles my father bought in the late '50s and early '60s. They are my go to jobs when I feel the need to beat on a screw driver for what reason .None has failed yet. Only one Craftsman handle ever broke and it was being hammered on relentlessly I believe the black element in the composition in many plastics makes some age out quicker.
  14. Photodan , If your insurance will pay for a psychiatrist make an appointnent ASAP before is to late. I understand there is now 12 step programs and 30 day rehabs for this now recocognized (often severley mental and finacial) disabling disease! BEWARE! As good as they /we are ,there is nothing but enablers / co-dependents here and you may never fully recover or have a sober thought again! 😨 Otherwise, good luck to you.

  16. Unfortunately I extra blunt and snippy here as this plot strikes a memory of a very similar situation of a decent 1928? PA 80 something ,4 door with that integral roof visor with kool optional bar style headlights . It was hidden, up on blocks in a decaying barn down town..with another old car like a 36 or 37 tan plymouth/dodge coupe that was also in nice original shape . These heaps were discovered by a friend and also some other unknown guys around the same time. There was a rumor/urban lenged for years about them. I saw the pair twice, 10 years apart .First when I was teen with an older friend car mentor. It took 10 years till the elderly ambivalent(key word ambivalent) owners or their heirs parted with the cars ,but only after the barn had partly collapsed in the iterim and left one side of the Peirce car completely exposed to weather and no sun. Both were finally sold and dragged out. The plymouth/dodge was not too bad ,but split that Peirce down the middle and everything on the passenger side needed replacement. All was severely rotten..flaking layers of metal and holes. The front and rear frame horns and springs were so corroded it was scary..I've seen better wheels in a field after 50 years. It got worse ,a few years later the car was spotted in a front yard in upper class neighorhood with a for-sale sign of $3,000 (1995). It was there for a LONG LONG TIME melting into the ground. Finally it was gone with the wheel divots and dragging tracks still there. I don't think the guy who dragged it out of the barn paid more then $500 for the PA...I do not recall if he bought both cars. The poor Pierce Arrow probably ended up as just parts. How do we break down the ambivalent factor that holds many things up? Is it just nostalgia or fear of getting screwed out of some money? You either keep a thing or let it go. You either sell a thing or give it away. Then I guess you break those down to (how to) Those are the only issues to wavor on I think.? Till it's too late.😱
  17. Cadillac Carl, We will never hear from Kara again. She made her inquiry plus one reponse and didn't get the quick and easy answer she so wanted, that the decomposing ,yet once regal old beast was worth um-teen thousands of dollars just as it sits.. Excuse me Kara..but that is how (I) see it.😇 I bet the next move for the people involved would of been to get one of those over the top(paid) appraisals of like $25,000 plus..which gets them all hot an bothered and unyielding to any offeres of less in the future. Maybe a way to deal with these one shot forum joiners /fortune hunters is to address these folks by only offering a person to person phone conversion with someone who is somewhat knowledgeable ,hopefully ,as to gain some real info on the situation ,thus aquiring a contact and way connect with the automobile in question.. That way it is possibly to follow up by someone here or pass along to ?that may want to actually aquire the dopy pile of rust , grease and mouse poop. Sight un seen ,if it has a motor that turns over and the car rolls, I have $5,999. burning a hole in my pocket for that wreck. $7,000.15 delivered on spec.=( with a refusal option). 👹 Seems high I know..,but I'm hoping the original headlamp lenses and reflectors are under the seat!LOL.
  18. Once the wood it sanded( with the grain) I end up at 220 . You might start with 120 or 150 if the wood is in good shape. If weathered and roughish and need to remove some dead wood, start with 80 grit and try not to round over any details at the hub side notches. The varnish coats, I lightly sand with 220 for the first 2 coats..move up to 320 then 400..you may go to 600 before the last coat .I didn't! Save finer sanding of higher grits if you are going rub down the finish coat . Don't be afraid to go cross grain sanding lightly around the spokes shafts with sandpaper strips in a two handed belt fashion with a spoke hanging over the work bench edge ,doing all spokes on one side then flip the wheel over and so on ,and then touch up with along the grain sanding at notches once you have a build of finish and not close to exposing wood . You CAN use red scottbrite pads inbewteen coats after the grain is begining to fill in if its generally smoothing out ,not heavy in dust spects or runs and you want to save sometime and get more coats on..then maybe paper sand every other coat or two to get at small imperfections.. You will figure out how much to sand and when to change up grits as you go. The pettite varnish sands very well after 24 hours in fair weather drying. I used basic grades of 3M paper from HomeDepot packets . Once the spoke grain is filled in and spokes are smooth ,(after whatever number of coats it took),you can stop at what ever is the next coat that lays out nice.
  19. Another vote for Pettit Captain's 1015 spar varnish...It is one of the best truely traditional spar varnishes. Highly regarded ,it is easy to use, lays out very well and sands well.. Remember when making finish choices..that "urine-thane" products produce a single film in the end and when is it breaks down it's all the way through..Where as real varnish will degrade by layers and if the top surface layer starts showing its age you can sand it back and apply a refreshing coat or two to keep it going. If the wood is not to deeply grained ,4 to 6 coats may do well, but be prepaired for 6 to 8 coats with light scuffing inbetween and and smoothing out the occasional sag.. Do NOT thin the varnish. It is not nessesary for brushing and is usually not recommened by the manufacturer.
  20. Remember this P.P.&M. Album 1700 with Peter Yarrows 1930 Graham Paige on the cover..He owned it for a long time.
  21. My tastes span the 100 years of recorded music and bounce between every era.. Often I look for more forgotten or less remembered tunes to listen to and latey music that I recall hearing on the radio years ago that recalls a certain memory ,place ,time, event and people. I recently rediscovered and turned on some friends to "Washing Sqaure"instrumental by the Village Stompers in the early 60s, "Wheel of Fortune" by Kay Star in the 50s,and a most forgettable but fun song, "Studeabaker" by David Liska 1975/6. Older or new. If it has a melody,is catchy a relatable lyric and has a beat, and you can dance to it.. I'll most likey like it.. Who can forget "Commander Cody" and the lost Planet Airman's Hot Rod Lincoln. We wore out that 45. It prompted me to put a 40 Cadillac flatty in a battered Model A coupe...
  22. Not so early ..notice the axle springs mount outside the frame requiring the C shape one piece shackles. The use of the X cross member .I say "1933 "or possibly 34?. no older..Dodge- Plymouth like Scotty B is thinking.
  23. In 50 years I never washed a car the same way twice ,but cool water and a leather shammy seemed to be part of any method. I am one who is not afraid of getting old cars dirty ! The 54 Desoto's paint below was only 5 or 6 months old in 2000 when the photo was taken.
