  1. One of my cousins walked in on two kids trying to steal his truck. He works as a personal bodyguard for Fortune 500 executives. The kids didn't get the truck. I'd like to hear the story but he doesn't talk about his work.
  2. Popping this back to the top, hoping to have the front end back together in the next few days.
  3. Wanted to make sure all the internals are in the right order before it goes back together. And is there a source for replacement metal dust covers? Mine are are slightly irregular.
  4. How do these scams work? I always assumed they would request a deposit to hold it. There was a Mercedes for sale locally that was obviously a scam so I was curious how it worked. I contacted the guy and he said the car had been moved out of state but there was no request for a deposit. I replied in some vague fashion that I liked the car, expecting "I'll hold it for $500," or something like that, but he never got back to me. But this is still a gorgeous car.
  5. Thank you! Can I assume there would be a corresponding offset on the other side in the event of dual exhaust?
  6. And what is it called and where do I find one? The usual suspects don't appear to have it. The thicker part of the shaft behind the splines, the torque tube seal rides on it but this one is scored.
  7. Located on the drivers' side of the frame just ahead of the rearward body mount flange. It's loose on the bolt but does not unthread. I forgot to take it off when I had the frame painted. In the second picture it's held in by the bolt to the left of the flange.
  8. Sounds like you're past this stage already, but to flush out the block I used a piece of steel brake line about 18" long. I flared one end and poked it though a garden hose cap with a hole drilled in it. Leaked a lot but made a very high pressure water jet that could be threaded deep into the block. You can experiment with trimming and bending the end to change the angle of the spray.
  9. Two years ago I had to move my disassembled 57 Buick to a new house so I slapped the front suspension together to facilitate the move. The car sat unmoved for a year in which time all the new seals in the A-arms cracked. The ball joint boots are still ok. I bought the seals from a well known supplier of parts for this car. I have the suspension back apart and need to replace all the seals in the A-arm assemblies, but I'd like to know that they will hold up for a while. Was is just the car sitting or do I need to look elsewhere for seals? I can't imagine there's a lot of different companies making them.
  10. My first car was a 1949 Ford F-1. My Mom and Dad moved from Minnesota to Montana in this truck in 1968. He sold it to a few years later and we re-acquired it in 1987 looking as you see it below. This picture appears to have a new radiator. I was living in the tent at the time while we built the house in the background. That would have been about 1992. I still have the truck and Mom and Dad still live in the house. And how it looks today. I make a point of driving at every month. This was a homecoming parade in a dusty little cow town.
  11. A little late to the party I realize, but I had great luck with tumbling the tank. I strapped it to a concrete mixer and dumped in about 2 gallons of a mix of pea gravel and sand blasting media. Tumbled maybe 4 hours. Getting the gravel out was expedited by using the blower function on a shopvac. Pressurize the tank a with air from the blower while shaking it around and the gravel comes out easier, along with a huge amount of rust. And rinsed it with water. By the third rinse, the water was coming out clean and the tank looked great inside. Still needs sealed but it cleaned up nicely.
  12. Way back in my college years, myself and another individual took it upon ourselves to swap the plug wires on a classmate's yellow bug convertible. And it still ran. He mentioned that it didn't seem to be running quite right but he still drove it regularly. Seems to me it was at a Halloween party so they were swapped for 7 months before we put them back in their proper firing order so he could drive the 700 miles home. Don't think he ever knew.
  13. I have the same car and was considering the same thing. This was my conclusion: The single speaker in the dash will never sound all that great, even with a good modern speaker. If all you listen to is talk radio it would be fine, but rock and/or roll will come across a bit tinny. Adding additional speakers looked like a very invasive process creating irreversible damage to the car body or doors. The head unit (radio) will look out of place. Wiring could probably be made to look ok. There is very little space under the dash, in the kick panels and in the doors. My solution: Well I actually haven't bought it yet. But I am going to look for a self contained battery / 12 volt powered stereo that can sit on the transmission cover. Back in the day it would have been called a ghetto blaster, they are a little more refined now. No damage to the car, easily removed and I'm willing to bet the sound quality will be pretty good. Years ago when I didn't know any better I put a modern stereo in an old truck. Did a nice job with wood trim and custom made kick panels, and it destroyed the look of the interior. It's reversible but it works well and is part of the wire harness so I leave it. But it does nothing for the antique charm and I consider it the second worst mistake I made on the truck. Also, it appears that your cat was sitting on the Enter key on your keyboard.
  14. There's a product called Corrosion X that comes in a spray can, undoubtedly the best contact cleaner I have used.
  15. Thank you gentlemen, always good information here.
  16. Curious if you like it. How big is your shop? How much oil to you burn over the winter?
  17. I've had very good luck with left-hand drill bits. Drill into the stud, the bit bites and spins it right out.
  18. There's a lot of really bad trigger discipline in this thread.
  19. Do you have a link or access to the bulletin? I could not find it on Hometown Buick.
  20. Finally got some pictures. Are the strut rods supposed to be straight? The bends look factory. I expect I can straighten the radius rod.
  21. Nope, there's a right and a left. Maybe it's two one armed men.
