The first domestic mid-engine sports car, the Fiero is packed with innovative features. SMC body panels, fully independent suspension and great looks. With a 2.8L. v-6 with a five speed this is truly a sports car. This car is what I would call a 20/20 car. Looks good at twenty miles per hour or from 20 feet away! It is a good driver the way it is but there is no doubt that it is 37 years old. When I bought the car it was damaged on the left side. Front fender, door, etc. Enough to total the car. I found body panels already painted black and bolted them onto the car. Car needs paint and minor body work. Seems like a solid base for a great project/restoration. $2,900.00 Cash.   2. Indeed, 1958 Mark I. Beautiful car even in this condition. My Dad had been trying to buy the car since 1970. The owner finally let it go last year after letting it sit outside in a damp climate. It was sunk into the ground and the floor and subframe were pretty much absent from the car. I saved the engine, transmission, instruments and some small parts. I know it doesn't look too bad here but it was a rusted out hulk. We weren't sure it wouldn't break in half on the tow over. If we could have saved it we would have. The leaping jaguar on the hood was intact, so not a total loss.
  3. It was more of a question for others who might know more than I do, but the price seems low (is it?)and the description is very lacking, both common to the CL scams I have noticed. Hope I don't come across as accusing an honest seller, I'll be happy to retract the statement if it seems otherwise.
  4. Starlight Blue is high in the list, and I think Belmont Green or Kearney Green would look sharp. I need to talk to you guys about the interior, ideally the interior would be color matched and from what I can tell the possibilities were nearly endless. I'll to get some pictures to show you, the seats have already been recovered and new door panels were included, black and gray. In my experience, finishing the seats before the mechanicals is a sign that a car will never be finished. So I have perfectly good seats and door panels in a color combination that I don't especially like, and I'm not sure of the quality. Ideally I'd trade them for something I could use, but that seems like a long shot. I'll get some pictures and we can start to figure out the best solution. And thank you, I'd be happy to look at the steering wheel. The more I get into this car the more I like it.
  5. Off to the paint shop, I'll be without most of Buick for several months. I called the old gentleman that I bought it from 4 years ago and left a message. He did not want to sell the car but time was catching up to him and he was unable to do the work, so I've been giving him periodic updates. I'd really like to drive it back down to Denver and take him out to lunch, I hope I can finish it while he's still able to get out. My Dad has also been following closely, a college friend had a similar car and they would use it for double dates. Its mate at the paint shop is a 1963 Corvette, completely stripped to bare glass. The owner was thinking about getting it painted but it needed some transmission work so he took it in to get that done. While at the shop, they managed to back it off the lift with the drivers' door open and peeled the door off. Yikes. I need the steering wheel restored and there's countless small parts that came along in coffee cans and boxes, I'll be making an attempt at identifying them. I don't even want to talk about the window regulators, I'll be asking for help when those go back in. A few months back my son bought a 1995 LeBaron out of a junkyard for $600. All we knew was that we could turn the engine with a wrench and the interior was pretty good, and it had a title, but he liked the car so we decided to take a chance on it. There's some rattley noises out of the top end of the engine but he's been driving it to school and doing a little bit of work on it. We'll be able to spend some time getting it cleaned up. The Mercedes Benz 380SL has been a jewel but needs the AC compressor replaced, not a small job from all accounts, and a few vacuum leaks chased down. The 1949 Ford Truck needs the carburetor rebuilt in time for my nephew's home coming parade in a dusty little cow town 200 miles from here, so that's at the top of the list. The boat needs the outdrive seal replaced. And there's the 1958 Jaguar inline 6. Seized up and neglected, it's a sad story of a beautiful car left to rot by someone who refused to sell. Most of it ended up in the scrap yard, but I was able to spirit away the engine and transmission (4 speed with overdrive). I'll get them rebuilt and look for a car to put them in. So not to worry, plenty to do around here.

  7. Put the body back on the frame, as per paint shop instructions. Just a few little things to finish up and it should be on its way. My help showed up before I had the engine out so I did it after, but things are moving along. In the paint shop for a year, that's what he said to plan on. Not a full time job for him, just a guy that paints cars for some walking around money. That will give me some time and shop space for a few other things that need attention. And anyone who wants to post pictures of their Starlight Blue, Kearney Green or Belmont Green Buicks, I'd like to see them. Especially the interiors. Original color was shell beige, commonly known as pink. Not even two tone, just pink, so I'm afraid the car will not be returned to factory color. The red you see was added sometime along the way, they kept the pink roof and shot it red underneath. I also did a compression test before the engine came out, 85-90 cold all the way across. I thought that was pretty good for an engine that's been run for less than hour.
  8. 1957 are a one year only and $400 to $500 each. It's possible Fusick can rebuild them for you but best to contact them directly. I think it's the lower A arm that can be replaced with 58 / 59 A arm so the ball joint is easier to source, but you're still stuck with the top ones.   10. The truck is 12 volt with alternator, I was a little scared to admit that on this forum, and I did use a fuel pressure gauge at the carburetor. Regulator is a Holley low pressure with screw adjust. The compression test was on a cold engine with throttle closed, no oil added. 95-100 with one at 103. I found my paperwork from 20+ years ago and it indicated 65-80, so things have improved. Ignition voltage test. I was not able to find much information on how to do this so any information would be thankfully accepted. Spark plug gap was good but some of them did seem a little loose.
  11. It's a 1949 8BA Flathead in a truck. It currently has a Pertronix ignition in the original distributor and an electric fuel pump (I know, it was a long time ago and I've never switched it back). Truck has been running rich with poor fuel economy. Spark plugs were nice and black. I reset the timing with the vacuum advance disconnected, just this and the truck did run smoother. Fuel pressure was 3.5 psi so I lowered it to 2.5. Turns out my vacuum gauge is stuck so I was unable to do a vacuum test. But it runs best with the mixture screws all the way in and bottomed out, if I turn them out even slightly it will gets a little bit of a stumble. Turning them out further seems to make no difference, just the same slight stumble. Turn them all the way back in to bottomed out, and it smooths out. It idles pretty well and sounds good when it's run up, although there's always been a lag before the engine will accelerate.
  12. I worked with a guy who was a police officer in Telluride, CO. He said that's were the trust fund parents dump their trust fund kids that they don't want to deal with. His favorite jail house phone call was from a kid trying to get his dad to bail him out again. Frustrated that his dad refuse this time, the kid said, "Well send me my allowance early and I'll pay it myself!"
  13. Haven't we seen a rash of Buicks coming out of collapsed garages? And now we have a picture of a Buick parked in a collapsible garage, seems like tempting fate if you ask me.
  14. That's some good shooting. A lot of variables and a moving target but the shots are very nicely concentrated in the driver's door.
  15. My high school age son just bought a 1995 Chrysler LeBaron convertible out of a junk yard for $600. We have about $1000 into it now. It runs and drives but is cosmetically compromised and has some noises in the top end of the engine that I don't especially like. He drove it to school this morning. It's good balance of needing work to learn with but still being able to run around town. So it's possible to find interesting and inexpensive cars if you don't have your heart set on a particular one. Wandering junkyards is fun and you never know what might present itself. It's also important to know if he wants a car to drive or a car to work on, most of the time it's two different things.
  16. Well, I've ridden in one. When I was about 5 years old my Dad had 2 of them, one that ran and was in pretty good shape. I remember going around the block and down a dirt two tracker with the suspension up. He can't remember which specific model. They're long gone now. I also got a ride in a friend's Jaguar MK I at age two. That car sadly has been scrapped but I am in possession of the engine and transmission out of it.
  17. Well enough of the fun stuff. The paint shop called and said they should be able to start on the car in September. So today I pulled the passenger side windows, taking notes, drawing diagrams, sorting parts, all the while knowing that when the time comes I'll have not the slightest chance of remembering how they go back together. The rear passenger window on a hard top is quite a piece of engineering. But that's for another day. I need to ask the shop if I can leave the wire harness in place. And I also pulled the dash, or what was left of it. With any luck the driver side windows will be out by the end of the week. Can anyone point to a wiper nut socket? I haven't found them sold by size, just application. And thank you, each of you who has helped me along the way.
  18. I have a 380SL Mercedes with the hood and trunk in similar condition. I was quoted $1000 to paint just the hood and it may or may not match. I've been meaning to take it downtown to inquire about having the hood wrapped. Might be something you would be interested in, just wrap the parts to don't look good, preserves the original paint and can be undone later. Shined up really nice, good looking car.
