Greetings MLP, Love that'73! One of the best cars I ever owned. I had good luck finding parts for mine on Ebay a few years ago. There are also multiple vendors listed in the Review ad section. Not sure if the taillight assemblies are being reproduced, you might look for them in an OPGI catalog.(as usual, buyer beware) But if you can remove them they can be disassembled & the lenses can be restored w plastic polish. the reflectors can be painted silver, & the bulb sockets cleaned up or replaced. The chrome may benefit from a touch of liquid chrome paint. If the  grille is not too bad you should be able to remove & restore it yourself. Could be just a matter of sanding the painted areas, masking the chrome, & hitting it with some satin aluminum or gray spraypaint & clearcoat.

p.s. next time you're in Orlando drop by & I'll GIVE you a nice driver quality '73 rear bumper. (better than the $450 bumper "core" on Ebay)

     Anyhoo,good luck.   Drew

I've been thru the ads already. No luck yet but not everyone has responded, either. And I'm not handy, nor do I have a place to work, so it's better I find a pro to do it for me.

  2. My 1973 grille is materially fine, but the finish is chipped and warn. Is there a way to refinish it? What is that process called so I can ask the right question. Or do I just need to find a replacement?

Same question for the trim around the tail lights. There's a metal trim ring, and that horizontal center bit in the attached photo. It doesn't show there, but both lights need restoration.

How do these floor coatings hold up to welding, cutting & grinding when hot metal or sparks hit them? What about steel wheeled equipment, will it chip the floor? I'm going to pour an addition to my shop in March so I would have a nice clean floor do coat or seal.

    Thanks Jim

I would imagine that the heat, etc., isn't ideal for any type of coating. As for polyurethane coatings, mine is about 4 years old, and is holding up very well.

  4. I would imagine that the pandemic slowed/halted production on a lot of shows, as well as the various strikes in Hollywood. While not all the trades were on strike and the reality shows didn't really need writers, some of them halted work in support of the creatives.

Wife and I have preliminary plans to do a couple of thousand mile road trip to and back from Santa Fe, NM within next couple of years, but like all our other leisure road trip travel, it will be done in a vintage car, most likely in our "Indian Turquoise" '57 Chrysler New Yorker convertible and as much as possible, using secondary highways and back roads, instead of those boring/dreaded conveyor belts known as Interstates.

Planning a caravan along the length of Route 66 Chicago to LA, in 2026, if you're interested.

    Need help what to see..

    Cars collections.

    Food.

    Sites to see..

Here are the towns I will be in :

    Albuquerque

    Santa Fe

    Los Alamos

Yes I think this is near  route 66... I will take a lot of pic and get a T shirt..

Last time I was here was 2008.. I know about the Dog house and Frontier Restaurant..in Albuquerque

I do not need to see the Castle.. in Albuquerque.. lol

In Santa Fe, Pasqual's just off the square. Get a reservation. Probably the best restaurant in the city. There is an Italian place also south of the square. Don't waste your time. There was a place we ate breakfast that features Hatch chiles, northeast of the square. Spend time on the Canyon Road. Tons of art shops, from the conventional to the obscure. I also recommend breakfast at Hotel La Fonda, again on the Square. Most people go to the chapel with the freestanding staircase. It's ok but not spectacular. The railyard area is fun. The fanrail trip south is ok, but $$$ for what it is. Cumbres rail line is much better. I've heard Sazon is very good. Never been.

If you have the time, drive to Taos. Spend a day in the pueblo and an evening in town. The Taos inn has great food.

    Good day,

Outside my Riv generation, but a quick search of 1973 Buick Riviera, I'm hard pressed to see any that are not chrome. The ad from 1973 also shows chrome. This isn't to say that it wasn't an option, but again, aside from obvious customs, I couldn't find a '73 image with body coloured mirrors. Searching 1974 Riv's and it pretty easy to find both chrome and body coloured mirrors, and the 1974 ad has them on. Again, far from conclusive, but hope it helps...

Ditto. I looked at images and tried to find that option on the ROA site. Nothing. Since the car I saw them on (online) was modified in many other ways I assumed it was just another mod, although the owner claimed they were an option.

  8. I used to clean carpets and furniture for a living. Hot water is really not worth the effort. We'd use it mostly to make the customer feel better. The ONLY difference is that it evaporates quicker, but IMO the squeeze isn't worth the juice. You'd need to get that water up to well over 100 degrees to notice a difference and even then it wouldn't be much of a difference. You'll see faster evaporation with moving air than warmer water.

Yes, I realize all this.  All 73 Rivieras were built at Flint, along with other full size Buicks.  The full VIN has the info as to body style, what model, engine, etc.  If a listing exists of all Buicks built at Flint in June and July of 73, then I would just work from the last one back, counting only the Rivieras till I got to my VIN.  If this list doesn't exist, then if someone has a 73 Riviera with a VIN higher than the last 6 digits of mine, then their data plate and build sheet info would be helpful to me.  The last week of June 1973 was a full week, Monday through Friday, and I don't know what day of that week mine was built.  I also had one reliable source tell me that no Rivieras were built in July 1973.

Some info is available on the ROA site, members only area, IIRC.
