  1. Came across an article in the Houghton Lake Resorter about a guy named Dale Smith that was restoring a 1923 Hudson. This car has the carburetor mounted to the exhaust manifold. I'm sure it was done to keep the dust and dirt from the road from getting into the carburetor. He mentions in the article with an adjustment you can shoot Flames out of the exhaust. Just what adjustment would I have to make. I notice the connection to the manifold has a pipe with holes in it that adjust the air coming into the carburetor. Does anyone have any knowledge of this little trick? It would be cool as long as it doesn't burn up the car. Robert
  2. Looking for a replacement for my rear view mirror. I think it is an original but will let the experts decide. It is unique as it has four prongs on each end to hold in the mirror. Has anyone seen this before? Is it truly a Hudson original? Who made it? Robert

  7. There are some adjustment points on the connecting rods to the clutch. Thought it best to get expert advice before I started turning things.
  8. My clutch pedal must be pressed all the way to the floor in order to disengage the clutch. Does anyone know how I can adjust the pedal to disengage higher up off the floor? Robert
  9. Was unable to connect with Don's auto Parts. the website never connected. Is it possible he has changed his address? Found these antique inside door pull and they are just what I needed. I do need another set. Does anyone out there have a set? Robert
  10. In the process of replacing the interior of my 1923 Hudson. Noticed there are no door pulls to close the doors. Maybe there were in the past. Does anyone have any suggestions metal or leather? The source for them if possible. Robert
  11. I'm restoring a 1923 Hudson and noticed there is nothing to help close the door from the inside except the handle for the window. Was thinking about installing door pulls and wondered if anyone had done the same. Found some chrome ones but also feel a leather strap would be more in keeping with the 1923 period. Any thoughts on this? Any source for the straps or other kinds of door pulls? Robert
  12. This is such great information. I am replacing the original and noticed it had only two listings like you mentioned. I was planning on adding more but now I know that would be wrong. My headliner on the 1923 Hudson is just one piece of wool with no seams. That should make it easier I think but then again maybe I can't see the actual tension I am putting on the material. Will take out my tacks and staples and start over doing it right. Can't thank you enough for all the information. Should post a photo when I am done. Robert
  13. Thank you so much, these are great suggestions. I started from the front but I can easily start over from the back. When do you do the sides? last? I put the listings in myself on the new headliner. The original only had two but I added two more that should help keep it closer to the roof. Let me know the sequence of tacking. Are you saying do the rear most listing first then tack above the back window, then do all the other listings then tack at the front windshield? Do the sides last? Robert

  16. Thanks it is worth a try. The fabric is wool so I am sure this will help. I will first go back and try to stretch it more. It is just difficult to hold the stretch while I staple. For the purists I did try to nail it but the result was even worse. Robert
  17. I'm installing new headliner material on my 1923 Hudson. Is there a special tool or technique to do this. I am using a staple gun as I stretch the fabric. It is attached to two of the roof supports by a sewed on strip of material but tends to billow in between. Any help out there? Robert

Took me a while to get the right phone number but the lady that answered said as Mark Twain said "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated" They didn't have the bearing but will be looking. JV, The bore size is 1.0 inch or 25.4 mm The cup outer diameter 2.8346 inch or 71.999 mm The cone width is 0.8730 inch or 22.174 mm The cup Width is 0.7480 inch or 18.999 mm The Bearing width is 0.7481 inch or 19.002 mm Hope this is what you need to find the bearing number I need if I can't find a Timken 315.   20. I can't be the only person looking for a timken 315 roller bearing. I need it for my 1923 Hudson. There must be another bearing that will also work. Does anyone know the number of such a bearing? Robert
  21. Does anyone know where to find a replacement grease cover for my drag link steering grease fitting. I think mine is rawhide. It is on a 1923 Hudson. The information I have found says they are used where the car is driven on dusty dirty roads to protect the steering link. Robert
  22. Thanks Dave, I was able to find a thin cotton material from my local fabric shop. The Cowlboard is original. I had to remove it to replace the window from plate glass to tempered glass and get the widow channels to work cleanly. I took off the board carefully but did not nail it back in the same holes. That's why it looks like there are twice and many nails as needed. I don't do this for a living that's for sure but after I put the fabric back on no one but you will know. Robert
