  1. I added signals the my 38 Buick. I changed the light base to a two filament in the front fender parking lights. The column mounted set also gives me 4 way flashers if needed at night on the side of the road.
  2. Thanks for all the information. My rods are good and I will have them machined. The little I drove it this past summer, the engine temp did not seem to be a problem, but then, only 5 cylinders were doing the work. I really liked the idea of replacing the trans bearing with a sealed one to help stop leaks. I would need to see a picture of a 39 manifold to make a comparison. I will currently assume I have a 38 intake and exhaust. One other thought about adding an oil filter from a later Buick. Thoughts? I want this car to be driven. One goal is route 66 out and route 30 back. Thanks again for all ideas.
  3. I have taken apart the engine from my 38 Buick special business coupe. It appears at some point somebody swapped the engine out and replaced it with a 39. Engine # 43534524. Does anyone have connecting rods to sell or trade to update my engine to bearing inserts? Also, what suppliers for parts have you had good results with. I am sure the engine will need bored and possibly the crank turned. I have a local old school machine shop that will be doing the machine work. While it is apart, in will be replacing the clutch, water pump, and have the starter and generator serviced. I intend to do this once. I live in Hershey. Thanks for the help. Enclosed is a picture of the worst piston. Motor ran with no noise or knocking just a lack of power.

  5. This does require 2 people. The dash top is now back in and with some more work the trim will be completed and the car back on the road. Thanks for the suggestions.
  6. The model is special estate wagon. It will be awhile till I can get pictures.
  7. I removed the top padded section of my dashboard to work/replace wiper parts. Now I am having trouble reinstalling the top of the dash. Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated. I am having trouble engaging the complete lip from the lower (vertical) section with the padded section while trying to keep the dash up as it heads toward the windshield to enter the bolts. Thanks.
  8. This car had the rubber throughout the car, front floor, rear floor and the cargo area.
  9. My 56 special estate wagon had blue rubber floor covering. Most has disintigrated and I have replaced with blue nautolex, i have one original piece on the rear seat bottom.
  10. I sent two front shocks from my 38 buick for rebuilding, paid up front, they called to tell me one was not rebuildable, the other one was. This was in September, after a few calls, I am still waiting for the one shock that was rebuildable, a refund or an answer from CARS. I now try not to buy from them. I am using other sources, because of this shock incident, they have lost some bigger orders from me. I also ordered front interior kick panels for my 56 buick and the ones they sent did not resemble the ones in their picture, had to send them back.
  11. Thanks, that was the image I needed. Had the rocker home in the wrong spot. Thanks again.
  12. Does anyone have an exploded view or a picture of the small pieces that make up the assembly that go under the side cover of a trico wiper motor?
  13. Recently purchased a 1938 buick business coupe and want to add signal lights. Has anyone converted the fender bullet lights to a 2 filament bulb. What bulb bases will fit? I also want to use led's for the added brightness.
  14. I wonder if eggs prestone will stop the leaks.
  15. To check all your electrical connections, use a VOA meter and perform a voltage drop test at each connection including your grounding system back to the battery. If you have a voltage drop higher than .2 volts when cranking, the wire or connection is most likely the problem.
  16. Yes, that was the one. Sorry I missed it, better luck next year at Hershey. Thanks for the replys.
  17. On Friday morning in the orange field I saw an American Bantam (red) for sale. By the time my wife came and we walked back the flea market the vendor space was empty. Does anyone have any information as to the owner of the car so I can contact them. I would appreciate any information. Thanks.
