  2. I read about the felt washers on the stem on another Post..

    Sound interesting.

Does anyone has that post available and some pictures.?

I have a set of cages that are a tiny bit more on the loose end..so I may need oversize stem ..so for this engine I'll use the good set.

  3. Hi there guys..

Finally I was able to find new valves and do a little of cleaning.. valve grinding and seat grinding as well.

It definitely pays off to keep the valve grinding tools for over 60 yrs..!

1980 ..The last time this kit was used.

Spend all day beat blasting and cleaning parts that was left outside for a few weeks before I got to pick all the parts up remember.!

We are  getting closer .. little by little..

    Enjoy the pics..

  4. Hi all..

What an amazing group of guys full of knowledge here.

I'm reading this post and realized that you guys are not afraid to tackle any job on this old Buick. .

And since I'm a guy with a 17 D45 car   you can't imagine how useful is this info for me. I'm here reading every ones comment and it's amazing.!

I'm taking lots of screenshots of the comments and keeping it for future reference.

Eventually one day I will get to the side curtains and definitely will get back to my notes... Cheers to all of you..

  5. Hello everyone and Happy New Year.!

Nice to finally get back here. And post some of the small progress I'm making on the 17 D45 I got last year..

Yesterday I got to line up all the valve train components from the boxes of parts I have..

And found out some of the exhaust valves needs to be replaced..

And also the valve springs. . anybody has an idea where to get them  or any specs.?

I have a few pictures and sizes of parts .

    Valves are .310 stem.

I forgot the length right now.. but I have all info.

    Enjoy the pictures.

    Cheers..

  6. The Meling Family arrived to  Colonet Baja California , Mexico. In 1888

They came from Norway and run till this days the Very famous. The Meling Ranch in Sierra San Pedro Martir.. where the highest point of the Baja California is . Also where you find the  observatory due to the altitude and clearness of the sky.

This was the Ranch's vehicle ..as you you can see they where transporting from poles to anything they needed to do..

The question is. What car it is.?

    Cheers.!

  7. Hi there..

    Remember this.?.

Looks like the only way they can make it is Forged ones and i think that's why the came up that high on price..$1.350 for the set..

I think I'm going to get some others quotes ..

I'll call the guys up in Michigan..

Or try to find a good set of used ones.. for the  3.290 cylinder block  i want to use.

    Cheers.

    Well.i did my own research..

Looks like a lot of other cars ware the same piston in oversize ...

There for I order from summit racing a set of $185 dollar. With free shipping.!

I also did my own research about the rings. Since summit don't have rings in stock for the pistons..

I ended up at Grant pistons rings. Witch they already close the factory here in the USA. So I went  to there office for billing .. and a super nice guy that worked with the company for over 40 yrs. Was nice to help me..and guess what..the last set of ring I need it  they where able to hand it out to me on the spot..for $85 dollars .

It happens to be that when the where moving..a box with different set of rings was left back at the office.. I guess it was mean to be..!

I got the pistons with 1.978 comp. Instead of 1.789 that I had originally..even better since I wanted to bring it up a 3 /16 .. what I got it's not as much but it's something..

I was able to fit the piston on the block. Man I know my numbers..!

Pistones to wal clearance it's just right on the Money..

Remember..the block was already bore and hot tank and water jackets clean and all of what a reputable machine shop will do to be able to assemble an engine.

So now the fun will resume  shortly after I get some free time..

    Cheers ..!

  8. If it helps ..

My own experience on this matter when I lived in Canada ..was to drain old oil fill the crankcase with 3 to 4 times the amount of oil it originally takes the engine.. Even fill it to the top if you like.

The reason why it's not only dry start ..but condensation over the winter time specially if the garage that it's not heated..

Then you can store that engine for several years without any worries.

I always did that even on my motorcycles.. and fill the grass tanks to the very top.. you want no air..so there be no condensation.
