So a buddy and I managed a successful raid on the ‘41. We got the intake, oil filter canister, side cover and a few brass fittings. Everything came off easier than expected and we went undetected. Huffed and puffed carrying it out, that sucker is heavy. Appears to be intact but haven’t looked closely yet. Please don’t alert the authorities….

The car. Located in Seneca State Park in Maryland, about 15 miles outside Washington DC. I’m organizing a raid party among local Buick guys. It’s on very public land so stealth is the order of the day!

Agree, great match. I hope to beef up my springs too at some point.

I’ve driven my car several times since posting this and no problems so I guess these vintage Buicks have very light clutch peddle resistance.

Well awesome boys! I’m all in. Thanks everyone, especially John and Grimy, for your help. Please let me know, John, how to proceed, and no need for the pics I asked for.

I like your response best of all! But wondering if failure is imminent.
Thank you,peter

I lost your train of thought at the end there, but, again, I’ll just look for another 6 volt sealed beam. I ain’t worried about it. Thanks for your help.

Not yet, great idea, thanks Ben.

Thank you, Jim, for your thoughtful reply, learned a lot. I don’t drive this car at night so I’m thinking I’ll stick to the 6 volt sealed beam,

The clutch pedal on my ‘41 Roadmaster seems real light, meaning not a lot of resistance when I depress the pedal. I haven’t driven it in a while, and it still works fine, but I remember it being more solid, heavy. Is this a sign that the springs are getting weak? Is there a way to adjust them if they are or better off replacing?
thanks very much,Peter

Greetings Buick fans, haven’t been here in a while. The driver side headlight on my ‘41 Roadmaster is now all fogged up so a new one is in order. 7 inch sealed beam, has “201” stamped at the top. Anything else I should be aware of? Any brand better than others? Should I take this opportunity to make a change to halogen? Thanks for your opinions,
Peter

Would be interesting to compare Skip’s panels to those made by Doug Seabold.

Great pics, and love the senior Packard, not that your car is any slouch.

Bravo! Still not sure If I’ll ever do it this way but nice to know it’s possible!

I think you’re on the right track. Measuring the gaps while the engine is hot and running is straight forward once you get the hang of it, and can be done repeatedly if needed until they are all .015. Adjusting them when running is a different story. So measure them all hot and running, shut it off, adjust each up or down, and try again….

Thanks Gary. I’ve seen that video before and remember thinking then what a difficult task it was. Those 2 don’t exactly exude calm, or instill any confidence in me! Then again, that’s the way it was done back then by all dealers and proper mechanics.
