  1. Could someone please post a picture of a 1936 Plymouth "Clutch release bearing pull back spring" with (hopefully) dimensions (width and length) listed ? I'm told it is part number '633686' - and also that its for 1935 - 37 Plymouth (Mopar) I'd like to buy this part (!!) However, both Bernbaum's and Robert's do not have it for 1936 - 37 nor any idea where I could buy one. They told me that the 'like part' that they sell 1938 - 1956 Mopar does NOT interchange - and they do not know of a successful alteration of the 1938 - 56 part to be used in 1936. I'd be very grateful if someone could be so kind as to help...
  2. Does anyone have a GOOD center chrome piece for the hood of a 1936 Plymouth ? I have two such pieces but both are badly damaged. They do not work to open and close the hood. The whole hood comes loose even though the end hardware is new thanks to 'signalsteve'. (Thank You again Steve.) Anyone ever tried putting a 1935 Plymouth hood on a 36 Plymouth only because they can't get a GOOD center chrome piece ? Then using the 36 hood side-curtains with the 35 Plymouth hood ? Does anyone have any other solution or suggestion ? Love the car, but the hood will soon make me 'certifiable'. Peter
  3. Wow ! That's a lot of information I would not have guessed at ! Thank You !!! While the e-Bay listing is most interesting, there was no convertible power top till 1940 if I understand correctly. That tells me that these knobs were remade; He's 'reaching back' to make his new knobs applicable to earlier years. No complaint there - just the opposite ! I still need what I need, and this is a valued, real option ! I'd say that I'll use just this, but I also need knobs for glove boxes, wipers etc... Gotta think about it ! New manufacture also explains the 'set screw' in the side of each knob - so as to fit a variety of male end sizes protruding from the dash. Plus O/D's - and so the knobs - were made for more upscale makes - given O/D was not available for Plymouth until 1952 - and Dodge until (??) Of course Desoto and Chrysler had O/D's much earlier, starting 1934... but not Plymouth. A friend says that O/D's could be 'dealer options' for Dodge and Plymouth in earlier years - something I know nothing about. Looks like someone else has cleverly used Terry Bond's 3D printer idea. Wish I had the equipment and skills to do just this very thing myself. I should look into this, so if I can learn it -- I can then "go wild" !!
  4. Thank You both for your helpful replies. Nothing worse than searching for something that likely is not out there, and that everyone (except me) knows is not out there. I tried the Plymouth Owner's page as well, with no luck so far. That being said, you never know what comes up unexpectedly - but knobs do take a lot of use and abuse over 85 years. So maybe not that surprising ?
  5. Anyone have ideas how I can obtain original looking dash knobs for my 36 Plymouth ? Is there someone out there making or supplying these parts ? Thank You !! Peter <pdmudry@gmail.com >
  6. Thank You for your posts John ! Nope, no word yet - but the parcel is coming from quite a distance. I check for the parcel here daily. I hesitate to call the fellow sending it until I've absolutely 'given up' - so that I don't 'bug anyone'. When ordering, I asked the fellow sending it to me, about his weather. Once he told me what his Arizona weather was like that day - I joked about my being located 4 miles due south of Santa. OK, its not accurate; but if you saw the amount of snow here, and how cold it is, why it can't be all that wrong (can it) ? I'll post a courtesy e-mail when the parts comes in. *** I was interested in your 53 Plymouth and sorry to hear of its fate. I really quite like that car - but it is rarely seen up here. Though I don't attend all that many cruise nights, I've never, ever seen even one ! Yet, they must have been popular... If you get a chance to post a pic of your favorite car now John - or the favorite car you have owned in the past, I'd be appreciative. I was going to ask for this before - on hearing what happened to your 53 - but didn't want to be 'too forward'. Anyway, 'Thank You ' John ! Peter *** PS. I'm looking as well for a 40 Dodge split front seat. (I've rather given up. ) I never even asked the fellow in Arizona - as he thought sending me the 51 Plymouth inner rockers was too large a parcel to easily send to me. He told me his local post office had refused things of that size in the past... (So I stopped myself asking about an entire front seat !) I am distant from everything, that's my problem. But in summer, I might still try to go get it - if its not too far - and if I'm sure its the right size. They don't seem too common... P.
  7. OK John, have you a picture of your 53 Plymouth ?? I (and doubtless many others) would love to see it... Peter ***
  8. Reporting back: Today I ordered a set of Body Mounts for my grandad's car from Desert Valley Auto parts. Yep, they're expensive - but more to the point, I am quite grateful. Maybe I can get the car so these nephews of mine, use the car, and over time perhaps even get to love it a bit (???) OK, I'm an optimist... Thanks first and most of all, to the two fine Gentlemen who replied; I can get the rubber parts - they are available in a couple of places - but I needed the help both you Gentlemen provided. An additional 'special thanks' to John for naming the place and phone number that these Body Mounts were 'living at' !! Peter ***
  9. "Thank You " very much John. I would never have known about either of those folks. I will try them soon, and report back as soon as I get something definite from them in reply. Gratefully, P.
  10. "Thank You" again, for your comments ! I phoned Roberts Motor parts, followed by Bernbaum's and while both had the rubber insulators for the mounts, neither had the 'metal body mounts' themselves. Neither gave any idea where I could try - perhaps they don't like to refer to a competitor. (?) In my car, both middle body mounts, driver's and passengers side are "toast"; OK possibly for a pattern, but nothing else. Other body mounts while not great, are better than the two middle ones. I do need the metal parts (particularly the middle mounts) - so any additional ideas would be much appreciated. 'Thank You' again ! P. Yep, I do like the 53 Plymouth !
  11. I'd like to thank both you Gentlemen for your helpful, meaningful replies. "Thank You" !! Yep, I'll check Robert's Motor Parts - and advise of their reply in due course. (Never bought from them before.) Second, I think I need both rubber insulators and steel mounts. Just crawled under the car to make sure I recall correctly. All rubbers are original and look at best "sad". Some of the steel mounts may be salvageable - but both middle mounts (Driver's and Passenger) are mostly rusted away. I'd prefer to get all (or more) of the mounts - so if I get someone to help me - they can finish the job, whatever they find. May as well replace whatever needs it - its all pretty dilapidated. Peter PS. As you gents know, its a common four door car, not seen as desirable, with huge numbers made. Its sentimental for me; probably not for my nephews. I put in a pic of it by way of a further "Thank You" to you both! Any further suggestions will be gratefully received. Thank You !! Peter
  12. I need all body mounts for a four door 1951 Plymouth. I'm in Canada, so the car is badged as a Dodge - but it IS actually a 51 American Plymouth. It was my grandad's car. He worked at Chrysler in Windsor in the late 20's until the 1950's when he died. He bought this car new in 1951 at Ambassador Motors, Windsor. I give this bit of history because I want to save the car, and as I age, my only hope is to give it to one of my nephews. As it needs all body mounts, they will not be able to certify it up here, so my fear is that my nephews will then scrap it. If any one has ideas, how I can get new or good used body mounts I'd be appreciative. Peter
  13. Keiser is, as usual, always helpful and seems always accurate. (And very much quicker than I. Saw your post only today.) I need a couple of these parts myself - and really wonder if I'll ever get them. There are on a 37 Desoto conv - and the windshield bracket appears the exact same (?) as your bracket. Peter Peter
  14. Thank You Bruce !! The pics you provided are more helpful than you know, in a number of ways... Thank You again ! I never had the correct seat for my car. Plus a 1940 Dodge seat, convertible or otherwise seems 'not to be found' here in Canada. I wanted any front split seat, 1940 Dodge or Plymouth, and the closest I could find after years of looking was a 39 Plymouth split seat from a 2 door sedan. (I found it in upper state NY.) It does not have tracks like yours. Its a seat which sits higher than yours. Your pics make that clear. The 39 seat has 'taller' legs than what is shown in your pics. I never knew really what I was looking for, now, with your pics, I have a MUCH better idea. And its of the CORRECT seat at long last. Of course that still does not get me either the seat or the legs that go with it, but now, with your pics I have an idea what I'm actually looking for (for the first time). Eventually Bruce, if its not asking too much, I'd appreciate your measuring the seat width. If this were possible with the tape measure on the seat showing WHERE it measures the width you provide - well that would be REALLY helpful, yet again ! Then I'd know the dimensions, if I ever see one. I'd then know both legs and seat. If you just cannot, well, fair enough. Gratefully, Peter < pdmudry@gmail.com > PS. Might you consider sending pics of your car ? That would be a real treat ! I can send you pics of mine, with its flaws... That's why I gave my e-mail address 2 lines back...
  15. Thank You for your reply Bruce ! Your right. As I was typing my reply, posting a few pics etc. I thought I was being silly, in thinking any of it could help you. However, that was my hope - that you had seen something similar in another 40 Ply - then the only explanation for the similarity is that its either an original interior - or a copy of an original interior. There'd be no other explanation for the similarity. I'd appreciate pics of the seat-feet or 'legs' whenever you can. If you ever see a set of these that can be bought, I'd appreciate your letting me know. (Its not going to well for me up here finding anything at all...) Peter ***
  16. OK, a few more saved pics. But are they REALLY original ?? (If you hear of 'feet' for the seat -- please let me know Bruce if you don't mind...) Sorry to give you second rate info Bruce, but its all I have. Hope someone else 'weighs into the discussion' soon with great certainty... Peter ***
  17. Thank You for your reply Bruce ! Nice seat !! (And yep, I see those "feet" (or whatever they are called) poking out beneath your nice seat. That's what I need, "feet". Good for you to have such a nice seat. That's the biggest thing in the interior !!) Below is an article on a 40 Dodge convertible. Difficulty is that I don't know if the Plymouth interior is close, the same, or utterly different. Ugh ! Sorry... https://www.hemmings.com/stories/article/captivating-convertible-1940-dodge-d-14-luxury-liner-deluxe These are some pics I saved, but are they really original ?? Peter ***
  18. Nice car Bruce ! I have exactly the same problem with my 40 Dodge convertible. (So other than being sympathetic, and wishing you complete success, I'm kind of useless to you. Can't send you pics of an original interior...) A couple of years ago a nice man in NY sold me a SPLIT seat from a 39 Ply. I thought, that's as close as I will get to my 40 Dodge split seat and bought it. Difficulty is, I need to buy the "two legs" that adjust the seat 'back and forth' so that the seat frame sits up off the floor ! If someone has two such 'seat legs' (each side) that I could buy- I'd certainly appreciate hearing from them ! So Bruce, watch that YOU buy a complete seat (unlike me) ! 19. Hi Dennis and 'classiccarjack' ! I too need two (2) sets of tail-light stands - 4 total - for a 1935 Plymouth. OK, its one year out and the stands are different, but I still need them ! Peter 705) 835-5350 ***
  20. Thank You very much Keiser31. I would never have otherwise known of this book ! Peter ***
  21. Thank You ! Both helpful and interesting! Perhaps that is the best answer we can even hope for 84 years later. Not a bad answer really. (What book was that excerpted from ?) Not trying to be difficult, but if someone asked me to tell them the difference between the D3 and the D4 - I'd have to say: "I don't have a clue". Thanks to Pete in PA and his Nov. 20 post, I learned that the D3 serial number begins with "93..." and that the D4 serial numbers begins with "94..." - but otherwise I couldn't tell one from the other. The book excerpt tells me the D3 was the shorter Plymouth wheelbase, with the 201 Plymouth engine - but this was also true of the D4 - apparently. Didn't know this, nor did I know anything about the panel delivery - but other than these things - I don't know the difference between D3 and D4. ( I even wondered if D3 could be 'all the odd ball stuff combined' - like the 'Limo' - 'sedan delivery' but then they would not have made that many - and not in Canada - and they sure would not have exported that many. Odd...) (I'd say those Canadians were an odd bunch, making both the D3 and D4 - then destroying all their production records - but being one myself - why, I'll just leave that one alone...) Peter
  22. That's helpful as always ! But I realize I don't really know what a D3 is ! OK: D2 is the 'Real Dodge' - the full size Dodge made predominately in the US, with far lesser numbers being made in Canada. D4 is the 'Plodge' - American Plymouth - but - badged as a Dodge in Canada (and only in Canada ? Did Australia do this as well ?) So what is a D3 exactly ? OK, made for export both in the US and Canada I'm told - but what is IT ? Was it ever sold in Canada ? With only 1,318 made in Canada (and only 3,073 made in the US) - no wonder I don't know. Not many made. All exported ? World-wide ? I was in Instanbul, Turkey years ago, and saw quite a number of late 30's looking Dodge trucks (pickup size) - still on the road. I went up to one, to give it a close 'look-over' - and the fellow came out thinking I was going to steal it !! I laughed and laughed ! He was taken aback with my laughing at him, and when I gave him the 'thumbs up' - he laughed himself ! So was the D3 made to be exported to such countries - so we never saw it here - and so, I don't know what it was ? Or was it a right-hand drive version ?? Or... ? Anyway, I'll stop speculating - so you can actually answer. PS: I 'googled' D2, D3, and D4 - and mostly came up with vitamins. "That ain't it"... Peter ***
  23. Thank You for the helpful information. I wondered. It clarifies things particularly when up here (Canada) - where they made both Plymouths and "Plodges" that is: an American Plymouth; 'badged' as a Dodge. I'm told by others more knowledgeable than I - that they also made a few 'Real Dodges' up here in Canada as well. (Go figure.) Presumably, 'Real Dodges' in Canada had longer fenders, as per your post (?) - but both Plymouth and Plodge had shorter fenders (?) That seems to be what I've seen over the years. They must have made very few 'Real Dodges' in Canada, because we rarely see them. Due to this rarity, for years I wrongly presumed that a 'Real Dodge' - was an American made car that somehow found its way up to Canada. I don't really want to admit this BUT: We Canucks may have caused the "interchangeability of fenders" confusion ! Because up here, they are interchangeable - at least between Plymouth and Plodges. We saw so few 'Real Dodges' - that those few exceptions didn't seem to ever arise ? Let me know if I still have it wrong ! Peter
  24. "Thank You" for your input !! You have computer skills I will never have ! Peter PS. Why lost Viking ? From the bit I read, they didn't seem to get lost...
  25. I see no response from 'Survivor' - but have my own question for StillOut There - or whoever can reply. Would it be possible to provide a 'close up pic' of how the Luggage Rack connects to the bumper brackets of that beautiful 35 Convertible ? I have a 36 Plymouth and a 36 Plymouth luggage rack that was bent in a collision. Straightening out the rack is possible. But I wondered what original, accurate brackets look like - and what I'll need to do if and when the rack itself is straightened ? I also wondered the name and size of the Trunk itself ? I have a nice trunk that is the same width as the rack, but deeper back. (I wouldn't know an original Trunk if I saw one. Mine is called "Dust pruf" if memory serves.) My hope is to mount my trunk protruding 2" -- then if and when the rack is straight - if I had pics of the original equipment mounting hardware, (and maybe how 'an original trunk' properly connects to the rack) - then I can mount it all correctly and have a trunk ?? Since I'm here asking questions, I also wondered what 'rubber' people use to mount fender skirts on a 36 Plymouth ? I tried Steele Rubber, and bought two different types of 'fender skirt edge strip' - neither type was helpful. I ended up cutting an old inner tube up - which was the best I could come up with. Does anyone have a good idea - or source - for me to try ? Thanking You in advance, Peter ***
