    What is a dual show?

A dual show is 2 AACA meets on back-to-back days.  As 1967 RedDeville stated there was a Grand National Meet in Charlotte on Friday, April 5 and a National meet the following day located at the same location.  I am not sure how often they occur.

  2. Roger,

The total points for a battery is 5 points.  The AACA Judging Guidelines state this regarding the battery.  Thus, you would want a battery that is from the era of the vehicle.

It might not be a bad idea to send a message to the AACA VP - Judging Jim Elliott to let him know what issues you have encountered and see if he has any insight.

  3. TAKerry,

I believe you are unable to attend the Advanced Judging School until you reach 25 Judging credits.
If you attend the Certified Judges Education (CJE) tou get an additional credit once per year. Thus, if you attend the school, CJE and judge you can get 3 credits for 1 meet. If you attend additional CJE’s per year you do not get additional credits unless it is Milestone Year where you reach (10, 25, 50, 75, etc.), you can earn an additional CJE credit after completion of another CJE seminar during the calendar year of your milestone.

Thus, the credits add up rather quickly. Before long, you will be up to 25 credits and can attend the Advanced Education.

Try again today.  They are willing to expand the block as needed until the cutoff date of January 28.  We will see what they will do if the block is full at that time.

Thanks Dave.  I did call again and was able to get a room in the AACA block and saved a couple hundred dollars at the new rate despite that rate being a Hilton Honors discount.

Online registration is open for both shows and judging.  The room block at Charlotte is being expanded, but book soon if you want to stay at the Embassy Suite at a discounted rate.

    Dave,

I plan to come the meets to Judge.  Can you let me know once the room block at Embassy Suites in Charlotte is oficially expanded?  I booked my room but, the only night that was available at the AACA rate was on Saturday night.  Once the block is expanded, I will call back to Embassy Suites to see if I can get a better rate than what I am currently being charged for each night.

    Thanks, Tim

  6. Larry,

You are correct that a car needs to have won a Senior Award at a National before it can advance to a Grand National Meet.  As 61polara stated, only the First Place Grand National winners receive the blue grill badge.

I copied the attachement from the 2023 Judges Guidelines.  It is in the Appendix towards the back of the guidelines.  This shows the points needed to achieve the awards.  Keep in mind that at the Grand National level there is only a 5 point spread not the 10 point spread at Nationals.  Thus, if one car scores a perfect score in a class, the other vehicles in that class would need to score within 5 points of that score in order to also win a First Grand National.

    Hope this helps.

    Tim

  7. I can definately agree with Stacy that the National Convention is for everyone.  Although, I have only attended one, I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and very much felt welcome.  It was a very enjoyable time and I look forward to attending another one whenever it works out.  All of the events were well organized and the seminars were very well done.  Sometimes it was hard to choose which seminar to attend as there were a couple at the same time that sounded like they would have contained a great deal of beneficial information.

    Thanks, Tim

I used to love to take things with really weird shifters to restaurants and other places with valet parking.  Usually, the car doesn't move until I get back.

In the mid 1980's, I had a neighbor with a Hurst Olds with the lightning rod shifters in it. See the video.

We'd go out for dinner every few weeks to someplace in Buckhead (Atlanta) with valet parking.  The valet attendants would take one look inside and just walk away.  That one was "normal" if you ignored the extra rods and knobs, but the valet guys rarely made it that far.

Later, around 1990, I had a 1975 Cutlass Salon with a Lenco transmission and shift levers in it.  That was even wierder, with 3 levers that you pulled back for the forward gears, another lever for reverse that you pushed forward for reverse, but was locked out unless the 3 forward gear levers were pushed forward (which was neutral), and a separate knob you pulled for the mechanical parking/trans brake.

I've never driven a Ford Model T or any other pre WWI cars, but I've been told that if you take those to the valet parking, they'll always be right where you leave them.

I have an "83 Hurst/Olds with the Lighting Rod shifters and have been asked many times at car shows if my car is a 4 wheel drive (4WD).

  9. Pontiac 70,

If I were you, I would try and enter it into the 36L judged class.  The judged classed do not require that the vehicle be restored.  Looking at the judging form, it appears that a non-authentic exhaust system would only be a 5 point deduction.  If the rest of the car is as it would have been delivered from the dealer, that would be a minor deduction.

    Just my thoughts,

    Thanks, Tim

Hello everyone! I’m looking into buying an AMC Rambler Cross Country wagon in great condition. All original paint, all original interior, and all of it in beautiful condition. Here lies the problem… it’s black and looks like a hearse 😂. I would love to have it painted turquoise or robins egg blue or something like that, but it’s the original paint, and it’s not like it’s in bad shape either. It’s still glossy in fact. I would hate to repaint it because of how original the vehicle is, but like I said, it looks like a hearse lol. What do all of you think? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Also, how is the parts availability on these? I know AMC’s can be hit or miss in that department.

Do you have any pictures of the AMC?

Incredibly, we have a happy ending with this one.  The car and the trailer were found nearly intact, 9 months later.  My '52 Studebaker was stolen! - Studebaker Drivers Club Forum

Not all 'stolen vehicles' have as good of ending as Frank's car did.

    Craig

WOW!!! Very glad to hear this car and trailer has been located.  Hard to believe it is nearly intact 9 months later.
