  1. Hey here's a fun one! I realize it's smaller but certainly a rare roadster. https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/26618/lot/206/?category=list&length=96&page=3
  2. Well truth be told I'm actually surprised something along these lines hasn't been posted already. I for one was hoping to update my tow rig before Hershey this yr but with supply being what it is I can promise you that just won't be happening! Maybe this would be better posted in the towing section of the forum but it's certainly a relevant issue that many of us will be dealing with for the next yr or two here.
  3. I have friend who is a wholesaler. He pulled in my driveway just last week with a yr old GMC diesel w 11,000 miles that had an original window sticker MSRP of 76K. He paid 78K! Where does the dealer he sells it to end up? Asking $84k at least? He also offered me about the same money for my F-350 than I paid when I bought it used 3 yrs ago. The market is absolute insanity right now.
  4. So you're saying you would pass on a nicely done fake/converted roadster at a fair price?
  5. Yep- I think you're spot on there. Not to mention the top on the red car is kind of hoaky -It looks like the top should over-lap the windshield frame a little. Btw- Grimy can you lend us a little insight here? πŸ˜„
  6. Yawwwn....all this Packard talk is making me sleepyπŸ˜›. How about this car for interesting ('31 imperial CG that sold at Mecum for $82500 in 2018)? I assume that it is not the genuine article and that no real Imperial would ever sell sub 6 figures but how about some of the earlier Chrysler roadsters? They're a car I must admit that I know very little about.
  7. Peter Larkin sounds like he was a hoot and a half; thank you for posting that article. The Parliament 'mothership' he designed is now on display in the Smithsonian.
  8. You guys forgot to mention one of the coolest cars made in 1931! Anyway, it's certainly the convertible/coupe that I hope to own-although that green one that sold recently one was probably anybody's last real chance at one for a while at least.πŸ˜„
  9. Selling at auction today, the maker is Meline of France and appears to be very high quality.
  10. I like that more of the guys have been running the PMD spinner wheel covers rather than the Rallye 1 wheel on the 65's lately or at least from what I had noticed at shows in say just the last 5 yrs. The '65 to me is a very different car from 66/67
  11. Not a roadster but that 90 series convertible coupe that was mentioned in another post recently sounds pretty appealing for the money. It may come up a little short on panache but I recall someone commenting on here that in some ways that car is even better than a Caddy of the same era. Oh sorry, I just noticed you're discussing pre '31. Please disregard🀐
  12. Tools? That car is PROPER sorted. I feel like this is a trick question...I'm going to shoot low here. 5 lbs?
  13. Whoa...now that's crazy. Takes some real big stones to hop in one of those.
  14. It's really interesting, would love to put the magnifier on it. Walt, as usual, is spot on with his observations-those painted fenders really distinguish it. Given the era of the surrounding vehicles is anyone else of the opinion that it's just too fine a chassis of that time to have been a cheap commercial conversion?
  15. Wow, typically unsecured debt like a personal loan has a much higher interest rate associated with it than any secured debt like an auto loan. Interest rates on an unsecured loan are literally double an auto loan rate in the northeast where I am. That's pretty spectacular and makes it kind of hard to peel real cash off for a purchase. Unless of course you're stubborn and set in your ways (much like myself), which most old car guys are....πŸ˜„
  16. Yes, I know there are a lot of reasons that it's just plain dumb to take a loan out on any old car- that's a totally different discussion and one that I believe we've already had on these forums.πŸ˜‰ I'm just wondering if this is a thing other credit unions are doing in other parts of the country? Here's the scoop on the one near me: -website says "...we offer the same great rate no matter what year or make your vehicle is" - I casually mention this to my Rep I've been dealing with for years and he tells me that all they need is a vin number (so, 1954 or newer I guess?)so they can pull an NADA valuation on the unit and advance up to 110% of retail value. -I ask if there are any stipulations requiring that a vehicle be bought through a dealer or if any inspection of collateral is required and he politely laughs at me. -Rates are under 3% all the way up 72 mo. for the credit qualified. -This institution recently dropped their "federal" credit union title/designation. Maybe this somehow affords them the ability to do wacky stuff like this? I'm pretty certain my wife would drop a toaster in my bath water if I ever took a loan out on an old car- I just think it's an intriguing concept given the rates these days. Obviously there's got to be a catch somewhere but darned if I can figure it out. Anybody else ever heard of this?
  17. Definitely a very neat car. The spot lamp strikes me as a little odd for that vintage but if you're going to have one I suppose that's as legit as it gets.
  18. I was surprised to read that this car had been invited to Pebble Beach w/ a non original (to that chassis) body. Is this something that's still copacetic today at that level? It's a very lovely car that looks like it was restored to a very high caliber but I know some would be quick to cast aspersions.
  19. A truly spectacular piece that a fellow collector was courteous enough to share recently on social media. I have a few of the plugs but has anyone else ever seen this display?
  20. I'm always fascinated by the old photos of the early club meets in the 1940's and 50's. Young men wearing a tie and jacket on a weekend for a vintage car club outing seems other worldly but it was only a generation ago.
  21. So it would seem from the listing. It looks kinda like a craigslist lawnmower ad.
  22. The listing says its on consignment to 'Classic Car Deals' but still physically located at the consignors home in NH. I wonder what parts it's actually missing/lacking to finish?
  23. It looks this car is being listed for sale again. I know its just a production body but man what a special car!
  24. That highly polished belt molding was a Fernandez & Darrin trademark wasn't it?
