  1. "A true car guy (insert go cart racer guy) would say if it needs moving, load er up." - Yikes! lemme guess ….you don't use a fender mat either.
  2. -No true car guy could ever put those go-cart tires on white upholstery like that- jeez, turns my stomach just looking at it.
  3. https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/hf19/hershey/lots/r0007-1934-lincoln-model-ka-four-door-sedan/751383 -I remember folks discussing what a great value this car seemed to be when it sold for a very modest sum @ auction roughly a yr ago? I wonder if someone is just flipping it or if the new owners were disappointed with it? Great looking car with a cool story-eager to get a look at it here on the east coast!
  4. A magazine is something you read waiting at the dentist or the airport! I understand the need for a monthly bulletin right now and its very lovely but I certainly wouldn't mind if they paired it down to a quarterly issue. I just want to log into the ever-improving member section of the site and sneak a read when Its slow at work or the wife is watching something silly on Netflix. Leveraging technology and social media is a cost effective way to maintain a sense of community within any club or organization. Naturally I'm sure the CCCA are well are of this and that I not saying anything that they don't fully realize. The college I attended doesn't print a costly monthly alumni periodical but I still attend their functions and identify as an active member of their community- why should the CCCA be any different?
  5. -I really would be surprised if any younger folks are seriously sweating the $70 fee. My brother and I are in our 30's and we both signed up last year only because people at the CCCA Tent in Hershey struck up conversation with us and were really cool. Jay Quail is pretty sharp, he came right up to us and offered to place us in some cars so we could catch a ride on some upcoming tours and get a feel for how things work. The CCCA activities are great and it is a goal for us to hopefully participate some day with the Classic that we are squaring away now. We also turned a few friends our age on to the club over the past year and they agree with us that what the club does is pretty unique so hopefully there's more folks our age out there that will embrace this ideology. That being said, I personally am very excited to see them making some big improvements to the website! -
  6. -That poor guy with the 1910 White steamer was able to finish but went through 3 engine re-builds and "almost ran out of fire extinguishers.."?!! Wow! he deserves a medal!
  7. I think that's part of the allure here. This isn't a car that I would ever have any aspiration to own in a restored state-in this condition however it becomes very appealing. I don't think it's any mystery that there has a been a huge shift in sentiment towards original, honest looking cars.
  8. what a spectacular car- it looks so modern for a 1915- is that a later re-body?
  9. Ronnie Hall's Packard next went to Dragone Classic Motorcars who had it offered for sale for a little while. The last I saw it popped up about 5+ years ago at an auction down south somewhere (Georgia or Carolina?) and the listing made reference to Hall being a prior owner. The car had been a static display in a small auto museum down there and save for one other Packard it was far and away the nicest thing in the sale.
  10. I believe the "mint condition 1916 Packard" they may be referring to was Ronnie Hall's Blue twin six. The car had been treated to a first class restoration in the late 1960's, was featured in the rose bowl parade and Ronnie kept it spotless. Mr. Meyer and his wife were close friends with Ronnie and were largely responsible for turning him on to the hobby in his younger years. When I was a kid he told me he kept it there and then later @ Staley's museum in Norwich as it wasn't until later in life that he was able to build his own big barn also on Rte. 20. I am also pretty darn certain that the bridgewater museum is also how he came across the original 1910 Packard model 30 touring body for the car that recently sold at Bonham's Don C. Boulton sale. Anything that left that museum went through Ronnie and rightfully so- he was an incredibly knowledgeable enthusiast who dedicated his life to preserving important automotive relics. Could the 1918 Pierce they refer to be his old green model 66? That was his Saratoga Springs barn find car-I never got tired of hearing that story. That car was mostly all original and just totally overwhelming as a kid- like standing next to a locomotive! Anyhow, you'll never hear anyone speak ill of Ronald Hall-just a great guy.
  11. Thank you yes I had sent an email to them about a year ago but never heard back. You're absolutely right, I should start with these folks I'm sure they could help. Did you happen to notice the 1925 Packard when you walked through? I had seen it listed but it never seems to appear in any of the photos that I can find of the museum collection online. I have also been trying to get a line back from the Montevideo Classic Car Club which has a very impressive looking website and certainly looks to be well established. Though I hate to do it I think facebook may be my best bet here. Surely there must be someone in the old car community over there that I can establish a little dialog with and try and get some questions resolved. much thanks! Miles
  12. Would anyone know where/how to start tracing down an old registration for a vehicle in URUGUAY? This one I assume was a government owned vehicle given the 3 digit plate number -at 1:05 is a great shot of front plate showing what looks to be either "3BD" or "38D". Does anyone know if there is a way to possibly obtain the motor number of this car using the old Uruguay plate number? The Don C Boulton collection had an old Pope-Hartford also from Uruguay and I read that they had used old registration info. to find origins of the car. Does anybody know of any existing AACA members residing in Uruguay? -I won't bore anyone with the backstory here but have found several videos of this Packard; a right-hand drive 143 7-pass touring driving some very famous people around Montevideo Uruguay on their way to/from Buenos Aires. I have the twin to this car and its history is also a total mystery to me aside from being from the same city and having also been owned by the government at one point. - I wish I had paid better attention in Spanish class Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction? thanks
  13. look pretty cool! - scene where Shelby makes Henry II cry is hilarious!
  14. -I'm sorry but it must be said -that's just incredible -40 times?!!? There's a gentleman who must have had considerable faith in his own mechanical abilities-God bless him. Aside from that though this reminds me of a recent topic on here talking about how these old guys used to just bomb around all over in old cars relatively easily. It was pointed out that there are now many prohibitive factors facing the modern enthusiast between ethanol laden gas, pot metal components breaking down, etc.
  15. The only thing I "want-a-be" is out the door for less than $70,000 to update my F-350!
  16. Ford sells an F-series pickup every 41.8 seconds, estimated $11 Billion in profit on F-series with 909,000 units sold in US alone 2018. Morgan Stanley analysts have famously said that if Fords pickups were their own franchise they would easily rake in more annual profits than McDonalds, 3M, or United Technologies. They would have ranked it 38 on the 2018 Fortune 500 list right behind Boeing and Pepsi co. So it would appear many folks are not deterred by gas prices.
  17. Ford Motor Company does an annual "market trends" study that examines the younger generations -they spend a fortune on these things and are widely considered to be highly accurate. The last few years have all said the same thing: 1) kids are much more enthusiastic about new cell phones coming out than new car models, 2) 16 yr old kids are not eager to get their licenses or drive themselves-young folks would much rather call an Uber 3) they embrace little sense of pride from ownership they would much rather lease the latest and greatest (24 month leases are very popular for Ford) 4) they respond to new technology and convenience aspects of cars and care very little about performance. -Obviously there are pockets of world where kids still love pickups and tuner cars and god bless them all-but they are vastly outnumbered.
  18. what a great looking car! there's a lot of fun there for the money!
  19. Ok good point -if they really don't cost that much more why wouldn't I? thank you
  20. "Some of the Holbrook staff, including their sales manager, Hjalmar Holm, were asked by Lonschein to come to work for Rollston in New York. As Holm had established connections with Duesenberg early on, he was without a doubt instrumental in getting a number of Duesenberg orders for Rollston between 1930 and 1932. (Holm is also the person who allegedly buried an unknown number of Ruxton chassis in his Hudson, New York back yard, but that’s another story, unrelated to Rollston’s.)" -this is an excerpt from the Rollston Company section on coachbuilt.com-which is an amazing resource-hats off to whomever maintains it. -The other item I am going to have to dig for. I wanted to learn more about Holm and came across something online written in the 1970s as I recall that also mentioned the chassis'. It's such an interesting story only because Hudson, NY is such a small, sleepy little Hamlet. Obviously, the chassis' would be destroyed by now but not much goes on there-one could assume that they would still be there, laying beneath the azaleas!
  21. Would still love to hear the story behind Holbrook Company sales manager Hjalmar Holm burying the last remaining Ruxton chassis' in his back yard in 1930? Rollston purchased most of Holbrook's assets at auction in May 1930 and also took much of their staff including the famous Holm. He then disposed of the leftover chassis' either out of spite/disagreement with Holbrook or Ruxton-I cant tell. Two different references elude to this being " a whole nother story" but never tell us!
  22. whoa! sounds like you did have some once in a lifetime scrapes-in a big heavy blazer no less! Camel Trophy stuff
