  1. Where I am it's more like $1000 a week from what I'm being told. People are making more than they ever made before sitting home watching Gilligan's Island.
  2. Is that dark colored top material they used in restoring that Chrysler CG copacetic? It certainly changes the look of the car from as originally presented quite a bit.
  3. Anyone else having trouble getting things done? I had paid to have some trees planted this spring and the owner of the nursery laughed at me on the phone yesterday. His workers are earning better than twice what they normally would to stay home and he asked what he would like me to do about it!?? Our neighbors are envious that we were somehow able to retain the services of the Bio fertilizer guy -he has been dropping accounts left and right because he just has no help. This a guy who charges four figures to spray things on the lawn 8 times a year and he is forced to turn people away!! Our sprinkler guy and landscape guy have also both politely delayed us because they cant get any help. The good people that we rely on every year to get simple things done are vanishing. It would be nice get out there and do some of these things myself but I'm at work doing the job of 3 people just to keep things together. Things at the office aren't much different, we went half staff and the clerical office people complain constantly that the folks at home are making more than they do ( and I feel bad because they are probably right!)
  4. Three years ago a local Chevrolet dealer closed and the owner very generously let me have my pick of the original parts racks. Naturally I looked around for anything else of interest but the building was basically bare having been picked over pretty clean during its decline over the years. Four months later the wife and I casually strolled through a local flea market and a gentleman had a pile of yardsticks with the same dealers name on them. He said he had been in the same dealership just a few weeks back loading up all the old heavy filing cabinets. He explained that when he moved them away from the wall all of the Chevrolet yard sticks had fallen out from behind them. The other thing crammed between the cabinets and the wall were stacks and stacks of old showroom posters which to his wonderment had just all been bought by a single person as he was unpacking that morning about 15 minutes before I had walked up. The fact that everything in his flea market space was priced $10 or less made this especially painful to hear.
  5. -Can someone please explain to me why old car STUFF is hotter than a pistol when old cars are getting softer everyday? Porcelain signs, oil cans, gas globes are bringing stupid, stupid money. These used to be things that old car people displayed in their garages. I have sold automotive advertising items to people that don't even like cars it blows my mind.
  6. Here's one that our very own AACA library was offering some very nice prints of!
  7. I had a gentlemen recently show me pictures of his 2nd or 3rd series (can't remember just now) Packard Dietrich coupe and it also happened to have the faux landau bars.
  8. E Paul must have been quite the character. This little anecdote on coachbuilt.com is from a former Waterhouse Co. employee and its pretty funny. Dupont made a 1928 inspection of the Waterhouse operation to "make a preliminary inspection of the new custom-body builder." Dunham continues his story: “Before his arrival we all visited the barber and local shoe-shine parlor. The man we soon met for the first time looked as though he had slept in his suit and had not sat in a barber's chair for weeks! At first a little reticent, he soon warmed up and turned out to be a most democratic and likeable multimillionaire. We had been tipped off in advance that he enjoyed a good salty story. So, one of our number with a vast collection, unlimbered a few of his favorites. This, unquestionably, had something to do with making his visit more enjoyable and our "situation" more favorable.” “Before long we had our first order for five roadsters and five convertible coupes.”
  9. Same driver and right rear passenger as car with the quilted winter front. Wonder who they were? The owner's daughters?
  10. Think he was able to crawl his way out of that without a tug?
  11. Talk about stealth wealth. Pretty humble looking 1927 car for the price point wasn't it?
  12. Yes! One of my favorite photos! There's a couple in that series showing them lined up in the in-field. The 'Hemp' Oliver stuff is the best
  13. Thank you for posting so many fine photos. Any background on this one? Are those twin little flag masts on either side of the grille like they would use in a parade? Also, what's protruding from right front fender? A sight indicator?
  14. You must admit that this is a powerful image that speaks volumes to the public's perception of old cars as a novelty/interest item at the time. You couldn't fill a local park with people like that these days even if you had all 3 Kardashian sisters riding in the lead car tossing free I-phones out into the crowd!
  15. Anybody familiar with this car or who the body maker was? It looks like a shorter wheelbase or is that just the skirts playing a visual effect?
  16. Springfield company that specialized in "water heaters & steam traps". Any of the Mass guys know if this one got saved? I'm guessing probably not, it certainly looks as if they worked it pretty hard.
  17. A nice tail shot of that car too.
  18. Thank heavens you told us! I had no idea what those were; thank you for posting. For a second I thought you may be helping us to solve the mystery of the Minerva-looking car that Ed posted last week. That Diana car almost has the same sort of radiator and seam running along the length of hood top. Anyone venture a guess on that one yet?
  19. Anyone else wager a guess on the Minerva looking car? Vauxhall had a radiator sort of like that but this looks like a more substantial car
  20. I'll have to pick one of those up for the wife's car...….
  21. My apologies, you are correct. I'm up in New York where our ban is state-wide for anything over 500. Buildings and events are closing all over here and pretty quickly too. Like a typical silly New Yorker I'm quick to forget that the rest of the country operates and functions perfectly fine at their own pace!
  22. I guess Pennsylvania has banned events of 1000 or more people. Thank god October is 7 months away.
