  1. V16, Thanks for the info about him being in Chicago. I'm try to contact him about a car he may have restored in the late 1990's. It was a Pininfarina re-body of a 1960 Corvair. Greg, I thought I had posted the original question under General, so thanks for that observation. Wade

  3. Cruise control has been a theory we have been discussing as an option on one of the Corvair forums, so that is a possibility. Also water or alcohol injection.
  4. Yes, gasoline heaters were standard on 1960 Corvairs, then an option for another year or two. But this could be an aftermarket gas heater.
  5. In the attached picture some equipment can be seen in the right fenderwell of the Corvair engine bay under the man's right hand. It has some hoses and/or wires and two devices (fan or tank). This apparatus was installed by GM in two 1961 vintage Corvair show/experimental cars that appeared in magazines (Sebring Spyder coupe and roadster), but might have been aftermarket equipment. Since this was scanned from a magazine article, the clarity is not real good. Does anyone have any ideas what this equipment is for?
  6. Was it a popular thing to cut the fenders like that or maybe they were damaged, so they were trimmed back??
  7. I'm thinking maybe 1939 Ford Standard, but the headlight rings are black instead of chrome.
  8. Can someone tell me what year and make of car this is? Obviously the fenders have been cut back and it looks like the side of the hood is missing too.
  9. I meant to mention that the partial license number in the picture I just posted of the back of the Packard are the same numbers as in the picture of the front.
  10. Also here is another picture of the Packard picture I posted above. This is the rear of the car, again with the same woman on the bumper, who was an older cousin of mine.
  11. I recently found another picture of the Franklin that shows more of the grille. It has the same young woman in a bathing suit sitting on the bumper that was standing in the first picture I posted above. Wade
  12. Not only that, the car in question that I posted comes with optional dented fenders. Which many cars from that era probably had.... I enjoyed seeing the one in Australia though.

  14. Here's another car from my family photo album, probably taken early 1920's. Note curved front side windows. I've seen cars in magazine with this style window. So what is this car??
  15. Based on other family information, I believe this was taken around 1917 - 1919. I don't know how NY issued license plates then, but since they are 1917, perhaps it was that year the photo was taken unless the plate stayed on the car from year to year after it was issued.
  16. This is from a family photo album. My great aunt is in the passenger side of the middle seat. Her husband manufactured Typhoon brand fans to ventilate theaters, thus the fan and advertisement on the car. This was taken at a movie picture exposition in Chicago where the fans were being marketed. The license plate is New York 1917. I can see a logo on the wheel hubs but can't make it out. What kind of car is this and what year? Please ID the car in the background too.

  18. Great! It looks like it might have detachable side curtains. If so, would that be a touring car?

  20. The plate looks like 1928 or possibly 1929, so the car would be older than that, thus 1926 would seem logical.
  21. Can anyone tell me what kind of car this is and what year? The Hopewell, VA emblem on the radiator grille is a town in Virginia. The woman is my grandmother's twin sister. They are not Bonnie & Clyde although it sort of looks like it.
  22. Yes, radiator is for water, but radiator shell is what I've also heard for Franklin.

  24. Thanks for the ID on the make and year! Not only is it interesting to know the make. model & year of the car, but it helps me date the time frame when this family picture was taken, because we didn't have that info. I know the names of my relatives in the picture, but not the date of the picture. Tell me though, what's the difference in the Model 135 and 137? I couldn't find that out on the Franklin club website. Also, just to confirm, was the Franklin in the picture air cooled vs. water radiator?
  25. Dave, regarding the mysterious car to the right, the same person owned a 1925-ish Packard as show in my other post. The car to the right seems to have a Packard shaped radiator. Here is a front view of that Packard. What does the brain trust here think?
