  1. Mario, welcome to the forum.
whatever you decide, do your research, have a plan and take it one step at a time and have fun . These are very complex cars.
That said, $30-40k would get you a nice riv that you could enjoy immediately. Life is short.
Best of luck and keep posting your progress.

So, if I park the car and leave it running and turn off the lights completely, should the clams close? Right now they stay open if I shut off all the lights til I kill the switch.

Correct, they should open with the key on or off, car running or not. They should close when the light switch is pushed in to turn off the lights,

*when the key is on* If you happen to shut the car off with the lights on, they will/should  close the next time the key is turned on.

    Hope this helps

  3. Rivnik,

I did mine last winter, this was my process.

I stripped them completely, straightened any dings, sanded the top face of the ribs all the way to 2000 grit to make the polishing easier. Polished to a mirror shine with a wheel mounted in my cordless drill and Mother’s aluminum polish. Cleaned, taped with fine line, used a self etch primer and paint.

As turbinator stated, I pulled the tape when still wet.  They were a lot of work and turned out beautiful.

That said, your correct, they do face downward and you don’t see them that much. Haha. But I know they’re right and kept me busy last winter 😁

good luck and have fun, hope this helps.

    Brian

Does anyone add any clear to the veneers to make them really shine, or leave as they come

I used an oil finish on mine. No clear, I hit them with some feed and wax once or twice a year. Still need to get them striped.

Are those rims silver/grey in the middle?  I had contemplated something similar but my car is a bit darker so wasn't sure how it would look.

Yes, they had a grey, cast look, center with a brushed finish rim.
    I like ‘em.
pretty positive they are American Racing Salt Flat wheels or similar

You are correct. I have taken a sabbatical from working on them.  Working on getting some health situation rectified before I can resume working on them.  Word to the wise. Finish one before buying a second, you’ll get neither finished when you think you will.  Then you get really smart and buy a third.  You store them 60 miles from home and just pay storage fees.  Things are looking up though. The physical therapist says I should be back in fighting form in a couple of more months.

Ed, sorry to hear you’ve been down but glad your on the mend. 👍

Any idea what the gizmo is on the dash right in front of the steering wheel?

Ed, yeah it is an accessory tach. Definitely a little later era but kinda neat. The dial rotates around.

post up some pics of your cars. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them. 😁
