  1. I am looking to strip the chrome on some small parts so I can rework them and re-plate in copper with my flash copper setup then nickel. Has anyone used the Caswell chrome stripping solution? Is there are better solution to completely strip the chrome? The Caswell kit says to use a stainless rod with 12v to strip, I will probably go with that if nothing else works well. https://caswellplating.com/anodize-chrome-stripper-solution.html
  2. Matt, I'm not sure what tire preservative you use, but I use this stuff for a good protection that makes it still look like rubber and not Britney Spears in a catsuit. https://a.co/d/0bFZSSR
  3. Add another thumbs up for Flitz. I’ve used almost all of the aluminum and chrome polishes out there, Flitz and Simichrome are some of the best. For removing oxidization I prefer the Mothers Aluminum Mag and Wheel polish.
  4. A drivers side rear door for a 1957 Chevy sport sedan (4 door hardtop) in good shape.
  5. Same here. I get all of the car questions about new cars. I have no clue about them.
  6. My 60 Pontiac came with wide whites (sort of wide at 2.25” wide). I think it looks best with the wide whites but I do prefer blackwall on most cars. She has thin whitewalls on now, but will be going back to original wide whitewall bias ply soon. Original tires presumably Blackwall in 2016 Now with thin whitewalls.
  7. Ok, that engine gives me impure thoughts….. that’s a sexy engine!!
  8. That’s what I was thinking, this is probably the only one left like this in original condition. I have a buddy egging me on to go to one of the Amelia Island shows, maybe next year I will take him up on it. I’m assuming this car would be allowed?
  9. As mentioned earlier by many others, the connections, friends, and knowledge gained. This forum as kept me from making some dumb mistakes and allowed me to look at things on antique cars in a different way. To me, that's priceless.
  10. @edinmass, just a question since I'm thoroughly ignorant of cars at this level but what would be the best route for this car? Keep as is or do the full resto? There can't be too many in original condition.
  11. Ironically, the bolt pattern for the wheels are 5x5, and the aftermarket rally wheels I bought are dual pattern of 5x5 and 5x5.5. I will use them as rolling stock on a Ford Model A when I get one.
  12. Just a bit of info to make it full circle, I believe this is the original owner. Maybe one day a trip in the car? https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/228345682/theodore-elmer-frey
  13. Yep, the brakes and wheels are coming back off and originals back on. I will order a set of BFG wide whitewall 8.00x14 soon. I need to replace the battery, hose clamps, and do a good cleaning.
  14. What's the gauge in the lower center? This has to be one of the coolest unrestored cars I have ever seen!
  15. I asked Peter to move this thread to the Unrestored section as I've decided to pursue the HPOF judging class with this car. I will be putting the original drum brakes on with new drums (now that Kanter has them) and going through it with a fine tooth comb to get it back to an original unrestored state. Few mods have been made that need to be reversed, I will need to get the new bias ply wide whitewalls, hoses and clamps, and a correct battery.
  16. Thanks! It was really good talking to you as well! Here is a link to the car we spoke about. https://forums.aaca.org/topic/311818-1960-pontiac-bonneville-maude/
  17. I spoke to a friend of mine that is involved in the HPOF area and he suggested I get my 60 Bonneville prepped and have it judged in HPOF. I have a question on tires regarding manufacturer / types / etc. Its a 60 Bonneville and I have (what I assume) is the original spare tire in it. Its a Firestone but I'm not sure what brand came on the car as it had 8.00x14 instead of 7.50x14 installed at the factory. BF Goodrich? Firestone? Here is the spare, its date coded Nov 1959, car was built in July 1960. Thoughts?
  18. Ahh, that scenery looks familiar. Looks fantastic! What’s the next step?
  19. I have been remiss in posting updates, mostly because I’m a bit exasperated with the car. Things were progressing smoothly until that cold snap hit during Christmas. I went out to work on her when it warmed up a bit around Jan 1 and discovered a ton of water in the oil pan. Apparently I didn’t have enough of a mix of Prestone in the coolant to prevent something from letting loose. So, now I have to rip the whole front end apart, pull the motor apart, and have it checked out. I did install a much better radiator (Cold Case) than the cheap one I had. The cheap one had a filler neck that was just a wee bit too long and it creased the hood when I closed it all the way. That’s already repaired, but aggravation nonetheless. Disregard the hot mess of wiring, I had it all undone to fix a bunch of things I didn’t like. Once this car is done(ish) it’s getting sold so I can start down the Ford Model A path.
  20. Same here, I cringed and thought, “why doesn’t he just use a band saw to cut the knuckles on his fingers like the rest of us do…” But then I realized I had the topic quite wrong.
  21. Looks like the Chartreuse that was on the 57 Chevy 265CID engines.
  22. Getting the bodywork started and progressing on my 90 F-250. It’s going to be sold once my new Ford Maverick truck arrives (3-4 months hopefully) so I’m putting all the replacement body panels on and painting them. Hood, pass door, and tailgate done. The color is 28/29 Ford French Gray.
