And it will be running long after the end times or until sleepy Joe dictates it is no longer allowed to be driven to save the planet. Almost indestructable cars. I keep my 53 Cranbrook knowing regardless what happens, this girl will always be there.

In a 4-door ?? You'd be laughed off the street out west even if you were the first one to the next stoplight. 4-door Chevys do have a purpose, though: they are donor cars!
Back in the day dropping a 427 into this would be a huge 1/4 mile friday night crusher. Nobody would expect that in a 4 door. But now even 4 door pick ups with a chip could beat it much like the GTO's of the time. But we still get the sound and the tire smoke of the time machine that kids today don't understand. Unless it is a hellcat charger or challenger. And they do it with AC LOL

Short drive for groceries today. Difficult drive 3 weeks out from rotator cuff surgery but at least it is an automatic. Coming home stopped for a light and it felt like I dropped a cylinder with a bad miss. I mean really bad. At 50 - 55 MPH though never skipped a beat. Only at idle. Let her cool down and pulled the plugs and all looked fine. All looked the same. Maybe a hair lean if anything. Tossed in a can of Berrymans with a full tank of E-free gas. Let the sorting begin. First ignition issue since I swapped over to Petronix in 2019.

as a 4 cylinder, what was the displacement on this to move around that much weight ?

Tells me that is the damage you can see and there is others you can't. Best to error on safety IMO and replace.

I like my all original (52k miles)Plymouth I saved from being scrapped all because they couldn't get it to stop from over heating. Nobody seemed to have read the service manuals about yanking the water distribution tube and flushing. These are great cars and I reguarly drive mine 35 miles each way to work and back. Rock solid reliable and simple and only 1700 bucks. When nothing else is running after the apocalypse pretty sure this old flathead surely will be.

The old format worked fine. What was wrong that it needed a tune up ? I gave up on it. Am I missing most of the postings as it showed maybe 30 was all to view.

To make it nice, figure in paint, tires, headliner, a rebuilt transmission, and sorting out the wires under the dash. You'd be in it $12k or more before paint, and it's still a 4-door sedan.
Willing to bet the wiring you see is a jumper made for the heater motor. These things had a nightmare of vacuum lines controlled by a plastic multi input housing switch where each vac nipple connection just crumbles. And the number of actuators are nuts. My 1963 dodge 880 has a similiar push button set up. At least the damper door is cable but thats it.

And the bridge has no guard rail, so you can
see those sweeping, open hardtop lines!
And they are going so fast they are leaving contrials.

Have you ever noticed that mid-1950's cars have
graceful lines and almost happy-looking faces?
That may sound silly, but I think it speaks to the
spirit of the times. In addition to mere technical
knowledge, a designer must have a calm
and elevated thought to produce beauty and grace.
For some of today's cars, designers make them
scowling and aggressive. Have they lost the purer,
higher sense of design? They need to take more
inspiration from the timeless excellence of the past--
and that's one reason we preserve such excellence!
All the jap cars of today look like angry fish to me. Scowling carp.

Dodge must have painted 75% of these cars this color. The vacuum system of switches and actuators are a total nightmare. Ask me how I know. And I need one of those hubcaps. Mine flew off going over a bridge last month

what was the year Hudson used in the last Jimmy Hoffa movie with Robert DeNiro ? My grandfather had a 54 or 55 that my Dad drove off the dock while "on a date" and some how kicked it into gear while "occupied". Always asked him what was wrong with the back seat. ha

Boy back in the day (early 80's) this looks like the type of build we would destroy kids taking daddies "night rider" trans ams out on friday nights. Talk about a sleeper. Needs more rust.

These years always need a little help in the rear getting the ass up or front down for a slight rake. Like seeing all the good stuff intact. Rad, shroud, AC, ect. But IMO would be better with a white top. My 65 is white, white , red interior so maybe biased

who else remembers being 6 years old and having a farting contest with your brother sitting on the plastic seats while Mom was yelling to knock it off. ?

I think there is a endless warehouse of old mopar parts as well for these years. Even finding a fluid coupler is easy. Jist one thing seems to be made of gold. The fuel pump. These are pretty easy to rebuild but even the kits went through the roof. For some reason the new diaphram that is ethanol resistant must be made from material from nasa and is priced as such.

my original 53 has low miles, 45k, and rust in the rock in front of the wheel and in the rear quarter.

My 31 PA (Which could be for sale) is Maroon and Black with White Walls but with red wire wheels. Not much of a fan of cream colored wheels.
