Thanks for the response I did some further research and found conflicting advice.some said they have used the original ammeter with no problems mentioning that even using a 60 amp alternator 6 V pos. ground on a vintage car similar to my 36 dodge .some mentioned that the alternator would only put out the amperage that the car needed to draw.others said to put fusible links on both sides of the existing ammeter just for safety.Even the company up in oregon which takes your old generator core and transforms it into an alternator said he has not heard of any problems with the ammeter connection (mine is 20 amp)So now I am tentative as to wether or not to go down this route of installing an alternator .Has anyone attempted this conversion on this forum ,any more advise much appreciated.

Can original ammeter be retained when using a 50 amp alternator to replace a generator system ?

Jim,I agree with rusty as to using a small brush with a steady hand and wiping off the edges.I basically did that on the caps Dave Hull restored and had plated for me.just make sure the small grooves are cleaned B4

Nice pieces,do you or anyone know why these mounts have rectangular holes on the undersides,is it just for weight reduction or lack of casting technology in those times?

Here in busy California traffic I have installed turn signals on all my old cars and trucks.Yes they could be removed if authenticity is required but I drive these quite regularly so for visibility and for other drivers seemingly lack of patience when it comes to vintage vehicles,I have never removed them.when bicyclists are on the road it seems that car drivers at least pay attention to their hand signals but as mentioned on other posts ,when it comes to old autos the hand signals get somehow confused with some other rude gestures.Be safe and visible out there.

Sounds like a nice find .somthing to keep in mind is that the 36 pickup and car are pretty much the same as far as front body configuration and mechanics so much is very interchangeable.I agree with the other post about your motor probably will run with preliminary fluid changes and such.it just so happens that I am selling a rebuilt 218 to a friend that is putting it in his 38 dodge express truck.he thought of hot rodding it but liked the idea of originality.you say it has low mileage and no rust or dents so you are much more on your way to a finished product than many others.any photos?

Yes I finally looked it up on Portland’s Craig’s list and what a remarkable job he has done in the reproduction.I see you are from Oregon,is there a good market for these crank hole covers there ? I assume maybe he lists them elsewhere also.Seeing as the main bodies of these grill are stainless,I am wondering what’s next,maybe entire centers out of stainless ?

Don’t know much about Australian made dodges except for the fact that they were made or assembled by T.J. Richards in Australia.Does your 36 D2 have D3 stamped on the block ? If so it could be a Canadian import.Is it right handed steering ? The listings for rubber suppliers from Jim and others are what I have found to have most seals for American made cars. I hope you will be able to identify and obtain correct rubber .

Are you referring to a replica ,custom made crank hole cover for 36 dodge ?

Yes I also bought a steel tank ( poly no longer available in 2020) fromTank’s Inc. but have not put it in my 36 dodge D2 yet because after draining and refilling with fresh fuel the old does fine.You have acquired a nice looking specimen ,have fun working on it.I currently have 2 of these cars and know of many resources for parts that I have had to obtain for them. Feel free to contact me if the need arises.

Back in sept.2022 I purchased a pair of amber colored fog lights that are made for use as turn signals and have brackets that mount to my 36 dodge front or rear bumper holding Brackets .these came from Rodtiques LLC out of Hanover Maine and can be installed permanently or removable.of course the rears are not fog type but are vintage looking also.

I found 6 volt positive ground wiper motors at vintage power wagons a few years ago but have not installed yet as my vacuum wiper still functions.

High Jim how’s your project coming ? I just was reading the posts between yourself and draconarmy who evidently has a D2 project in motion.this is super bowl Sunday and I find myself with time to peruse some more dodge subjects.it interesting that more of these cars are being appreciated and taken to task. I don’t know if you saw the add in Hemings Dec. ‘21 issue for a 36 sedan in New Mexico in original condition.well I drove out to see it and ended up putting a deposit on the 16,000 asking price.so now I am going to have more than one but this car won’t need much work as it has only 11,492 miles . I checked it out thoroughly and drove it to make sure of its integrity .It belongs to a 94 year old guy who only drove it in parades or to local car shows but now wanted to sell.it looks just like the black one I owned in my twenties.well I will have to sell the other car eventually but first things first and that’s to get the car home.i will send some pictures .take care ,Dan

Just actually read and looked at this ,what a nice find and basically complete ,I’m still working on my 36 that was also quite complete considering its vintage,so just for general information what price range was your dodge acquired for ?

Anyone tried evaporust in the water distribution tube area ? I am having a heck of a time trying to get the tube out of my 1947 1 1/2 ton dodge truck .any suggestions would help. I have tried WD 40 and a come along with a hook. And still no movement.next will be a slide hammer.help ! Who has other remedies ?

Hi thanks for responding I am not aware of which car you are on now I found your threads and was quite interested since I too have the 36 D2 sedan that I purchased about 3 yrs ago and am just trying to keep up with its needs.i have found out quite a bit from these forums. Do you have pictures of the car or cars your working on or completed ? Do you have spare parts nothing specific right now but I’m sure down the line.

Is this the end product of your project or a picture of another finished restoration? I would love to know all or some of your suppliers etc. since I am trying to restore (give new life ) to a 36 dodge
