    Great photos, looks like a fun and productive day. 

    I think I spent more time looking at the parts and the tools in the shop than the work the people were doing. 

    Sweet anvil stand!

    My knees are already buggered from my apprenticeship cabinet making. Spent most of the time on my knees not realising. Deep sea krill oil and magnesium keep them moving these days. 
     

    I made that anvil from scrap I found at the metal recycling place near us. It’s made of solid steel pieces welded together. It must weigh about 250kg. There was all these different size round discs about 1”1/2 thick. So I welded them all together and then shaped it all. Took me bloody hours of grinding. The main bed of it was already that shape and that’s what gave me the idea. It had been cut that shape with a oxy torch so it must have been a serious bit of gear to blow through 8” steel.

    It makes a beautiful ding when you hit it with a hammer. I cooked it upside down on a fire for a day and then drop it in a bath of oil. It’s probably not tempered as good as a normal anvil but being so solid it still works well.

  2. We had a great day today with our club coffee and chat working bee. 
    we had 17 people turn up to give a hand with the car and there wasn’t a clean hand in the workshop. Everyone got stuck into doing something and we got so much done it was great.

    Rich and Terry got the brakes altogether while a few of us others started on getting new bushes into the springs and chassis.

    All jokes aside for a second or two Grant was here at 7:00 and has spent quite a few Saturdays here with me and Rich getting a lot of the parts cleaned and ready for today.

    Once that was in they fitted up the rear brakes and drums. 
    We lost Frank for a while out at the sand blasting cabinet. Every time we looked he seemed very attached to it so we left him be. We thought best to not take a photo of that. 
    Kirk and Jim pulled the rest of the engine down and got it ready for a good steam clean.

Doesn’t appear to be much happening just at this point in time but they got heaps of sanding done. The Wire wheels will be getting their cream top coat some time this week coming.

    A huge thank you to everyone who turned up today and gave a hand. Everybody put in a huge effort getting a massive amount of work done in just one day. We will have it rolling around the shed in no time soon.

  3. I have been getting a few more parts ready for our coffee and chat working bee this Saturday. 
    Getting all the brake parts ready for reassembling. The new linings should be ready today or tomorrow. The master cylinder has been resleeved.

    Hi Matt, looks like I have 3 copies of this book. Let me know your address and i will send you one. It only has black and white pic in it but shows a few of the different cars as well as history. A Javelin was severely modified for racing in Aussie [ the Wylie Javelin ], and is pictured in this book. Doesn't look anything like its parent car.

    It’s just a job not mine. It started out as 2 little infills behind the bumper and now he wants me to prep the whole body and paint it. Then when that’s done he has a second one he wants done. There’s a fair bit of work in it to get it ready. 
    Thanks for the offer of the book Dereck but I don’t think I’ll need it. If I need to know anything I will ask you. 😂

    I’m trying to fit the guards together so they don’t need the piping. 

  6. I managed to get all the drums machined today and the rest of the shoes and backing plates blasted.

    I managed to make up one good master cylinder up out of the 2 we had. The inside of on was just mush.

    This and the brakes are going in tomorrow to be redone. The master cylinder will get a new stainless steel sleeve and a new kit put through it.

  7. Thanks Dereck I’d never heard of one until it came into the shed. 
    After getting all the rear end back to bare aluminium and the guards fitted properly it has a nice shape to it.

  8. Grant Rich and I have been spending a couple of Saturdays on getting the axles ready to fit them up to the chassis. The club is organising a working bee on the car in April so we have been trying to get a bit of the time consuming stuff done. The rear axle is almost back together and the brake shoes are going off to be relined. I actually machined the rear drums today so the brake guy will fit the linings to each drum for us.

    The engine is almost completely apart now after a mammoth job getting the pistons out.

    The Chevy should be an easy enough project and parts shouldn’t be too difficult but I’m a little bias as I think at the last count there are 4 Chev 4’s that are goers in my shed and enough parts to build a couple more.

  10. Ben and I have been trying to fix a bit of an oil leak on the rear main seal. I removed the sump and trimmed back the gasket so there was no overhang in the slinger trough. Not sure of the exact terminology of that. It improved a little but still leaked after that, so now the cars back with Ben he’s trying to make it better. Going to try sticking the gasket to the sump and make sure there’s no overhanging bits and no gap at the crank. The gasket we got was not really a perfect fit so we’ll try make something a bit better. 
    Definitely not the easiest rear seal to make no leak.

    The Chevy has been pushed into the shed under the overhead crane ready to pull to bits. I’m just not sure where to start on the bloody thing. I guess I’ll just take it all to bits down to the chassis and go from there. 
     

    I have actually been working on a pommy javelin Jupiter of all things. It started out as 2 little bumper bonnet infills and now it’s turned into a complete prep and respray. It’s an aluminium body so pretty forgiving to get it to were it has to be. 
     

    Also had a 26 dodge tourer come in for rear doors and it’s also now a full rebuild and paint. 🤦🏽‍♂️ Busy!!

    Hello 2249 Senior 6 owners I have a Stromberg UX2 carby on my Senior  This carby replaced the TX2 that were the first ones fitted to the engine What I need to know is what is the size of the venturi on the correct UX2 that is fitted to the engine Maybe Carb King can help

    I was sharpening the razor blade this morning while looking at it. 
    It’s definitely not one that excites me. They are built so light in comparison to the dodge.
