  1. Been running my 52 on 6 volt for 18000 miles. Good connections are imperative. I have several 6 volt systems and have gone to using #2 welding cable. Much easier to work with and any end you need can be fitted either by yourself or many parts shops. My local NAPA does it for me here.
  2. Great info Reid. Hadn't been at that website yet although you guys had told me about it. Lots of other good stuff too.
  3. I hope I can explain this properly. The rubber bumpers on my hood latches are worn down to the metal. They're the ones attached to the catch with a tubular rivet. I didn't find anything similar searching Chevy parts. If I don't replace them I'm sure they'll scratch the paint. Has anyone come up with a way to renew these items? Thanks in advance!
  4. Thanks for all the input. Now I have some decisions to make.
  5. Tinindian, do you remember what plain shackles you used? I had thought of machining new ones but that material is doggone hard.
  6. All great information. Gotta meet you guys someday!
  7. Three questions: Anyone have a functioning, original fuel gauge? I had hopes of making mine work but find I have none of the tank unit. Anyone found a nice 6 volt replacement? Heat riser: I'd like to get mine loose but am afraid of breaking it. Engine runs fine right now set to winter. Suggestions? Spring shackles: Know of anyone making the cone shaped bushings in the springs and frame?
  8. Didn't take any in progress photos but I guess I could post photos of how I did it and the end result. Ok, here's how I did it. The car is on a lift and I have an old 30's floor/bumper jack. I don't think I raised the body more than a half inch. There was one bilt that needed to be removed. No slot in that location.
  9. Didn't take any in progress photos but I guess I could post photos of how I did it and the end result. I had the advantage of a lift and a 1930 floor jack. I'll see what I can do.
  10. Will do. I thought about the plank through the window thing but wasn't comfortable with it. Now I know it will work. Thanks once more Reid!
  11. It's time to remove the aprons on my 30. I'm looking for advice from those of you who have done it. I've been told that they may slide out after lifting the body slightly. My car's body is very sound; everything fits so well I don't want to do a frame off. Thanks in advance.
  12. Thanks for the info. That one is different from my rear bumper medallions. I must have the lighter weight ones?
  13. This may not be the best forum for this but am wondering what platers you folks have had good luck with. I had a couple fellows recommend a shop in Idaho but now I can't find the contact information and my searches haven't been very fruitful either. Thanks for your help!
  14. Could the paint scheme in this photo be original. It's the only photo I've seen where black starts below the belt line and is also part of the hood line.
  15. A local machinist built this rear wheel hub puller for me. Nice job and it works well. I know there aren't a lot of these cars out there but if anyone would like to have one of these tools, he is willing to make more. Somewhere between $125 and $150.
  16. What are the chances that someone out there has one of these they would like to part with?
  17. I always thought the dash on my 30 would correctly be black but today as I removing the mounting screws I found blue in the screw slots. Blue is the original body color. Does that mean the dash should be the same color as main body?
  18. Thanks once again Reid. I've had a couple of months where not much has gotten done on my car. Just getting going again.
  19. Before I take this apart thought I'd ask if there are any seals that can be replaced or should I leave it alone. It's obvious that it was throwing grease around.
  20. Thanks once again. I'll drop him a line.
  21. I'm jumping ahead a ways with this but am wondering what others have done for running board mouldings. I'm talking about the aluminium pieces that fit around the front, back and outside edges.
  22. That's ok, what do you show for a pinion seal? I'll be needing one of those I'm sure.
