1965 Riviera - blocked or obstructed cowl vents ?
moran75 replied to moran75's topic in Buick Riviera
Yes, that actuator us shot but it’s propped open at the mo with a piece of rubber😀 but re cowl vent….do you think it’s also susceptible to being partially blocked over time thus reducing air flow into the blower? or does it just not happen ? Can’t find any reference to such a think in forum history …. -
Hi all Re. A/C I’m guessing the blower draws outside air in through the cowl vent…does the vent ever get clogged? Is that a common phenomenon ? only ask as my a/c blows cold, fan motor certainly goes through the gears up to high - but air doesn’t exactly shoot out …I know all is old but instinct tells me should be a bit stronger…. I know it could be ducting behind dash but I’m not going to go there 😀…sounds like a can of worms … which made me think of where air comes in to the blower…. if it is blocked is there an easy way to get access? I’m guessing not due to the wiper…. thanks in advance kev

1965 Riv … A/C condensation dripping in engine bay
moran75 replied to moran75's topic in Buick Riviera
Thanks chaps…funny thing is that it wasn’t overly hot or humid…or didn’t seem so. Maybe the a/c was in state of shock after been used for the first time in years! Tom - you spotted the helping hand I was giving to the actuator ?😀yes, I’ve seen them for sale but good ol’ exchange rate / import chgs putting me off for now … there’s also a ‘helping hand’ on the one under blower box …. I don’t use heater so doors don’t need to swing back -
Thought I’d already posted this but can’t find it now …so apologies if repeating myself! anyone tell me what this hubcap came off? thanks in advance kev

Morning all ive had my a/c system checked , cleaned and refilled with modern gas and is operational for the first time in approx 15 years… after driving 25 miles back home with a/c on there was very noticeable condensation dripping from a/c ‘metal pipes’ in engine bay ….in two places, one worrying near some electrics…as per attached pics…I know why it’s happening in terms of science but I’m assuming it shouldn’t be…or not as much? Drips were more or less continuous..not an occasional drip anyone experienced this? BTW wasnt a very hot day… thanks in advance kev

65 Riviera ….but as per my earlier comment after first two responses I’ve decided against it now …even more so after reading subsequent comments !😀

thanks all - wont be taking the car there 😀 Kev

Hi all I've found a garage that rents out use of a 2 post lift for my 65: https://www.carramphire.co.uk/ I haven't used a lift like that before and whilst there will be a technician on hand to set it up for me, is there any additional do's and dont's unique to a 57 year old design that he won't know about? Other than obviously making sure its balanced and doesn't fall off! 😀 Thanks in advance Kev

Hi all I’m doing a little bit of underside cleaning/detailing …what was the correct finish on the flywheel cover? Should it be painted? Mine looks bare metal with some surface rust at mo.. just in case it’s relevant my car has / had factory under seal added. Thanks in advance kev
-
Def correct screws…as per manual ..thinking out loud I have a tilt steering column - would that be a factor if not aligned some how? I’m with the car tomorrow - I’ll have a ‘ gentle’ and brief play ..
-
Thanks all …consensus suggests should come off easily with removal of the four screws …as mine isn’t I think I’ll leave it where it is 😀 kev
-
Was hoping so … something seems to be stopping easy removal…I don’t want to force it so if doesnt come out easy I’ll leave it and polish it in position… cheers, Kev
-
Many thanks….I think I’ll leave as it is if steering column needs to be loosened…could be opening a can of worms 😀
-
Hi all re the semi circular ribbed trim that wraps around steering column …as per pic attached (not mine ). re. top piece …I’ve removed the 4 screws from below (only fastenings shown in manual BTW) but piece doesn’t want to move…. Is there a method to sliding it off? Or is there another fastening somewhere? not going to force it, especially considering what’s underneath, but I’d like to polish it up if possible … thanks in advance kev

What year is the car? Have you got a ‘dashpot’ and is it adjusted properly? My 65 has one don’t know about other years …the manual states cIt’s purpose is to soften the return of the throttle when coming off the gas, thus avoiding stalling… but in my case to be honest I’ve run the car without it and didn’t have stalling issue…maybe be worth checking it out though kev

Many thanks…BTW Mike’s Carbuertors have a great manual available for Carter AFBs…seems to cover everything …but unfortunately not the ‘green’ holes !😀
-
Hi all Re. my ‘65 Carter AFB - 3921S. Out of Curiosity can someone tell me the purpose of the holes circled in green/red in the attached pic? greens are my main interest …maybe some kind of extension of the idle vents in the primary Venturi ? Reds - due to their position above the fuel bowl vents I’m also assuming they are linked in purpose…. can’t find any ref in manual /web …but might be looking in wrong place 😀 Thanks in advance kev

Is it me or is every 65 Riv for sale anywhere a GS? for such a rare car seems to be a lot about 😀

-
1000 thanks…really appreciated. are you on PayPal ? If so send me yr email address or ‘handle’… if not I’ll make a bank transfer I suppose? Or any way / method you’d prefer address is: kevin moran 22 Revelon road london , UK SE4 2PP Can I ask one last favour….the reason I need this part is someone over here returned my rebuilt carb with really bad packaging and as a result the choke housing broke, Specifically the 3 screw holes which retain the plastic choke cover……. So - and I’m sure you would anyway! - can you wrap it in bubble wrap or similar to protect it on its journey ? all the very best kev
