  1. One of the bigger project was getting my yard back into shape and it back in grass. I was not as good at taking pics with this stuff as I was while building my garage but I do have a few to post. I still had 2 piles of dirt left over after the original back fill. I wanted to let the dirt settle around the garage over the winter and retop it up, and the back of my yard I wanted to finish raising the level of my back yard to put in a better swale where water runs along the back of my property from a neighbour's field to a ditch. I have been having problems with the water widening out on my property and not flowing to the ditch as well as it should. Here is a pic after a huge rainfall after about 20 min, the raised dirt level seemed to be doing it job. The water used to 15 ft further up the grass and encroaching on my septic bed.
  2. Thought I would add a couple of updates to my garage build as I have not added anything since the the beginning of the year. There were a few thing from last year I left incomplete as these were jobs that I could finish at a later date as I had time. There were a few pieces of trim that needed to be added and lots of landscaping and stone work in the driveway along with getting my infloor heat up and running before the upcoming winter. Over the next few days I will adding some pics and details of what I did this summer and fall. The trim work was just some detail stuff that if I did not get at it, it is easy stuff that could just get left and ignored forever so I made sure I put it at the top of my list to get that done first because if I didn't it might never get done. First was the porch...I wanted it to look the same as the rest of my garage so I trimed it out the same way with facia and soffit all the way around. You will note the underneath is not finished and I had not planned on doing anything there but the birds in there have been crazy this fall, with bird crap everywhere, so next yr that will get a covering of some sort. Next was to just finish the trim around the 2 doors, it just gives it a more finished look.
  3. Not the best pic, but the working parking has arrows and is pointing to the road way around Chocolate World for the parking location.
  4. this photo looks to be from the base of the American side of Niagara Falls.
  5. Here is a photo that may interest a person on this forum @kfle. This picture is of cars being aloud again to cross the border in Niagara Falls around 1916?.
  6. Its interesting while doing research for other things and you come across car pics. The top pic is from 1917, the car is 1915 Model T, the house was original build it 1861 and I have added a pic of the house from 2021 and it is still in the same family.
  7. My moms is a bit nervous and has requested at the least one of us kids to be around when they go...she would prefer someone else drive and Dad turn into the passenger....but not an easy sell. I also found out while we were at the cruise that the vacuum booster for the brakes quit working last fall but he did not tell me about it. Time to do some research to figure out how to fix that issue.
  8. Here is a couple of pic of me following Mom and Dad home from a cruise night last night, need to make sure they get home safely. First time they have been out this yr. Dad turned 88 in May so need to keep an eye on him. Not sure how much driving of the Studebaker he has left, so I thought I better get a couple of pictures.... it was a perfect night.
  9. Dad also mentioned the quote from the guys in Europe for that rad with honeycomb core was over $14,000...I think Dad charged just under half that price...which I personally did not think was enough for all the work I seen was involved.
  10. I talked with dad last night and it sounds like he used a bow saw for most of the saw cutting of the Honeycomb rad. He started by sawing around the whole outside about 2in deep using his homemade jig then went slowly around the whole rad until the cuts met up in the middle. He mentioned he also cut it around 2in thick which I think would be easier then trying to cut one around 3/4in thick. Don't know if this helps or not but that was what we did.
  11. I have attached a couple pics of an old tractor rad my dad repaired a few yrs ago. It was a honeycomb rad that was no good and it was way too costly to get a honeycomb rad made and shipped over from England. So as auburnal mentioned above he cut approx. 1in off the honeycomb rad and attached it as a non functioning part on the front of a modern core. With the fan shroud installed you would never see the modern core. My dad being very old school made up a jig out of scrap lumber and used a hack saw or maybe a sawzall and cut it off but I can confirm that with him tonight just to make sure. The last pic is not the tractor that the rad went on but one I found on the internet just to show the type of tractor.
  12. Matt, as a silent follower of this thread I just want to say congrates on a successful first car show outing and the Lincoln looks awesome. I also want to say thank you for taking us on this journey with you as it could not of been easy at times when things just never seemed to be going your way and still posting about it for all of us followers. I personally felt he highs sitting in my chair reading along when you had successes, and the lows when you did not. Good luck with getting the last few gremlins looked after and hope the car gives you and your family many years of trouble free miles. Jeff
  13. My wife has a recall on her 2017 Ford Escape. She called the dealer to set up an appointment to get the recall done and they told her they have no parts to do the repair. They said they would call when they get the parts in.....that was 8 months ago. Luckily it is not a serious safety issue and we can keep using the car.
  14. Such sad news...I made a point of going and seeing Dave at Hershey this past year, wanted to see his car and talk to him about what a great thread he had and how great his car looked after all he went thru. We talked for about 20min, and I will add that he had a lot of great things to say about you Ed and he was so appreciative of your help and the friendship the 2 of you had developed. Jeff
  15. Gunsmoke...you forgot to add one bit of info for Ed as to why you would not have an issue buying a car without out a title or ownership as we we call them and that is because you must be Canadian by the Nova Scotia Licence plate on your truck and the use of Kijji to sell the Dodge. Your trying to compare apples to oranges with how our Country/Provinces are set up to deal with the issue of not having a title/ownership for a vehicle with how the States in the US do it. I have had to get 4 titles/ownerships done over the yrs and they have taken between 1hr and 1 week for a car in the teens that had a 5 digit serial number that matched a home built trailer out of Quebec... but that was still rectified in a week. After reading the horror stories from guys on this forum and even Ed himself I would not think of buying a car in the States with the proper paperwork. Jeff
  16. Just a short update...Tuesday morning I had my final Electrical Inspection and I passed without any issues. The guy that came for the final was not the same guy I had for my rough-in so I was a little worried when I saw him. This guy was much more thorough as he opened my house panel, asked for pictures of my trench, opened up my garage panel and checked every plug with a receptacle tester, he was about 20 min to go thru everything. I should be getting a cert. in the mail in about a week to show that it has passed inspection. It felt nice to get this part completed.
  17. I have a neighbour who has an 87 Grand National that he bought brand new, has about 15,000 miles on it and has couple engine mods. He has only had it running twice in the last 20 yrs with the last time being 3yrs ago to move it. It has had OK storage but not the best and is showing that it has just had OK storage. Neighbour saw on a previous BJ that one went for over $120,000 so guess what he thinks his is worth. I have tried to tell him to that he should not use BJ as a price guide for his car....but there was no convincing him because of what he saw at Barrett Jackson on TV.
  18. This is one of my favourite pics after getting the Case out of the garage after resting there for over 40yrs, and just before we sold it.
  19. When I was a kid one of my favourite things to do was to ride my bike to my dad's body shop on a summer evening after dinner when some of his buddies would show up and they would stand around and tell stories about different cars that they brought home and some of the wacky stories of things that happened on those trips. I used to sit there and take it all in and love every second of it. As I got older I thought that some of those stories were like fish stories where they got a little bit exaggerated. One of those stories was about when they bought a little Morris Minor? car and then on the way home they ran across a Model A but the trailer already had a car on it so they pushed the Morris as far forward on the front of the trailer then just put the front wheels of the Model A on the back of the trailer and using rope tied the front axle of the model A to the the back rail of the trailer and away they came home. Then one day going thru an old box of pics you never guess what I found.......
  20. Here is a pic of our 29 Model A. First pic is of when dad first bought it as was bringing it home in 1962. And the second is at hershey in 2017 going for it's HPOF. The engine has since been rebuilt as the babbitt was starting to fall out of the original engine.
  21. This will probably be my last regular post in this thread. Most of the things at this point are completed for me to be able to use my new garage on a regular basis. Their are obviously some jobs that are not completed yet, and they include setting up my boiler for the infloor heat, putting metal on the ceiling and finishing the interior walls and bringing in more stone to level off my driveway to the height of the building. All these things will be completed as time and money permits with the stone in the driveway most likely getting done in the spring and the infloor heat getting set up before next winter, they will be priority over the ceiling and walls. I could never of even of thought about tackling a project like this without the support and help from my wife Katherine and my 2 kids Ryan and Jason, My boys always came out when asked to help and took many Saturdays and Sundays to help, and when they are 22 and 20 they have the ability to do anything I can do and in not have as many aches and pains as me at the end of the day. I also had a brother-in law, one of my best friends, and 3 neighbours who lent a hand and equipment when needed to help get some projects done. I could never of done this without all of them. I want to thank everyone for following along, it was your likes and comments and all the views that kept me taking pictures and adding to this tread 2-3 times a week. I hope you all enjoyed the last 8 months of this build. Down the road I will add a few things as I get to some of those projects I mentioned above, but it will just be sporadically. Thanks Jeff
  22. This past weekend my electrician neighbour came over and we pulled the #3 wiring thru the conduit and he hooked up both my panels. He checked all my outlets and switches and everything looked good. It is nice to finally be able to put the 2 extension cords away that I have been using for power in my garage for the past 6 months, On Tuesday I had my rough-in Electrical Inspection, and it went better than expected. The only thing he got me on is that I have to change the covers on the outside GFCI outlets. He said the ones I have are only water proof when the lids are down and not when in use, and they have to be waterproof even when you have a cord plugged in. He told me they should not be selling the style I bought as they are not up to code. I have to go and by different covers at my local big box store to replace what I have, the covers are a big bulky clear plastic that covers the outlet at all times and cord goes in underneath. My final inspection will come when I have all my lights up and all the cover are installed on the outlets and switches.
