  1. Yes, a signed bill of sale, notarized, which is stamped and signed by a notary public (town clerk, etc.) and there is a couple of instructions on U.S. border website to follow and email with a number obtained in step one. i have to phone the automated number message again, and write down the 2 instructions again, i couldnt write fast enough. my lawyer said to attach 4 corner pictures of the car to the email to show what the car looks like that is showing up, is a good idea. He asked how old the car is, i said 95 years. im sure if we showed up at the border with a few late model cars that mysteriously lost the titles/ownerships that would be a different story. - terry
  2. some progress so far: i called U.S. border, and what i need is a bill of sale, notarized, and email to address provided on border customs phone number. thanks for everybody's suggestions and tips, it's always a good read, i like to make sure i've covered my bases. - terry
  3. having a trucker father comes in handy. i already posted these pics 5 years ago when i bought the car, but it sure is neat going through pictures. - terry
  4. it takes this long for the beer to get cold because the electrics in the fridge are made by, well, you know who
  5. where in canada? i might go there and not come back! - terry
  6. thanks - yes - that is going to be the last resort plan. the owner of the car will start pulling it apart, ill have to pay him some labor, which if fine. when dad gets over there, he would have to take a day and finish dismantling things and get loaded. it just would be worth in the end if i had to pay to get a title so i can get brokerage company to get paperwork ready. that way i can dismantle when the car gets home so nothing gets lost or broken. - terry
  7. thanks for all the replies, everyone. it is interesting. im not sure how im doing it but ill have to get something figured out. i read on the u.s. border customs website about import/export vehicles having a junk or scrap certificate. anybody heard of this? and that is their actual wording, not my interpretation. it says "junk or scrap certificate" - terry
  8. yes, i have called a brokerage company in port huron, and told me the problem isn't the canadian side, the problem will be getting past the u.s. side. being the car is a 1928 studebaker, it's over the model year limit. my dad trucks across the border and is familiar with all the processes, but this is a new one. he's brought parts back for me, which isn't a problem, but this is a little different. what would i do with all my spare time if i didnt get into old cars. i guess it's too much fun! - terry
  9. right on, i would not care about the title, i just want to make it easier for when my dad makes it there to bring the car back. the parts car will be a pile of parts when im done, it will never be close to being on the road. - terry
  10. thanks for all the conversations. i am trying to get the necessary paperwork so my dad can bring the car back into canada, without having to dismantle the engine out of the car and load separately on the trailer to cross the border as a parts car. i would rather everything be in one piece so i can dismantle it, i dont want to lose any parts. - terry
  11. so i'm using the parts car to get two of my cars closer to the finish line, and when i get the parts car home it will be well used getting things finished. i dont plan on selling any of my cars until i'm in boot hill. this is off the wall, but how do i know if any of the parts i have bought on ebay, or from sellers on here, are not stolen from somewhere, and had any right to be sold to me? believe me i am full of appreciation and thanks to everyone in my travels and members on this forum who have sold me parts and with advice. - terry
  12. i have a curious question. i have bought a parts car, that has long lost the ownership. i just talked to a friend that remembers seeing an article somewhere, perhaps hemmings magazine, about an outfit in georgia that will communicate with the original owner, purchase the car, obtain georgia ownership, then sell the car back to the purchaser for a small percentage for the fee for obtaining a current ownership. has anyone heard of this? btw, the car does not have to be transported to georgia. thanks - terry
  13. i have a good car sign wrap guy in my town that can get the image with lettering from the internet, print and wrap the vinyl on my speedo face. i also have gotten him to redo my gas gauge faces. - terry
  14. good morning, i need a picture of someone's throttle linkage that is assembled on their car. i seem to have most of the pieces i need, but am having trouble getting the linkages sorted out. i am using a stromberg tx carb, instead of the ux, but the throttle arm is in the same place. thanks - terry
  15. that's a hercules engine, likely and ixb engine model. i have a gibson tractor with that engine in it, and my hough loader has a qx engine. the shape of the center of the intake/exhaust manifold is identical. hercules engines have the ends of the side valve cover rounded, continental engines have the valve cover with squared ends, including the valve cover in my erskine - continental engine. - terry
  16. i just joined and donated to the museum, and requested info on the patterns. thanks Rex! - terry
  17. rex, very nice work. i will have to try to contact the museum and see if i can purchase the pattern for my car. do you have contact info handy?. if not i can look it up. im glad you posted that, i didnt think of getting in touch with the museum for patterns. once the floor is back in, i will be ready for some rubber parts, if you still make them. - terry
  18. my long term idea is to make the front halves from the doors up, get the seats solid, so i can get car running and driveable, then when i can slow down in 5 or 10 or 50 years, i will actually lift the body and re-make the wood properly. im not expecting to make perfect wood pieces the first time, so this first shot im looking at as good practice. my erskine probably needs the same job from what i can see. - terry
  19. hello Henry, yes i will be taking some pictures and can show measurements along the way. first i need to get some ash boards and plane to the thickness i need. the proper way would be to lift the body and make the whole length in one piece, but i dont have time for that. - terry
  20. good morning everybody. so i have started to pull out some rotten wood along the door sills. i am going to replace from the back of the door forward, hopefully get enough stability to tack the fancy door sill plates back onto.
  21. thanks guys, for the suggestions and help. i have found it hard to find part numbers and cross references, but i have bushings and am going to make king pins out of 7/8" drill rod. the owner is going to bearing specialist warehouse to get the thrust bearings. thanks - terry
  22. how is that right front fender? gosh i need one better than the ones i got with my car! (and two rears as well, if anybody sees this message!) thanks - terry and the manifolds too - espescially bottom part of intake manifold
  23. hi linus, when i did engine work on my cars, also on any other customers antique car, i look up valves in the dimensional listings in a valve/seat/guide suppliers catalog. always much cheaper, and better material than nos valves. the valve parts supplier SBI has a great online dimensional listing for valves and seats etc. terry
