  1. Gents, our listening pleasure can be whatever we want it to be. I like the original sound with one speaker in my 63. I took the radio out and had some items fixed and I had an aux input installed in the original radio. The original sound from the little speaker takes me back in time. I like that a lot.

For serious listening I have Sansui, Bang & Olufson, Thorens, SME tone arms with the Shure cartridges. I inherited most of the gear and some of the stuff is over 50 years old. Works good.

but I admit that silver or gray color looks nice and unique

I believe and happy to be corrected the first year (1965) was “ Shadow Gray”. It was dark enough to knock on black’s color door.

Unless you have someone who actually witnessed the original guys like me really don’t know. There are items about these cars I think no one knows. They are production cars and massed produced cars can have differences in the same model year. Some gents research when, what ,and where and I applaud their desire to get things right. Id never fault a person for doing their best.

  3. I recover 63-65 Riviera dash pads. I strip the dash to metal core and install new foam padding. I match the vinyl for the proper grain then match the color with 4 way stretch vinyl. In some cases Ive color matched and dyed the vinyl.

Shipping services for about 50% off retail is not uncommon with contract shippers. Ive shipped numerous Buick Roadwheels to Germany. The average cost is $45.00 USD per wheel. The same carriers deliver the goods, but delivery time is slow. Just Dashes has a good business. So good they can afford to be … not so customer oriented. That is only my opinion. Ill send some pictures of my work. You may be interested in my product at about 40%-50% less than Just Dashes. If you are not interested in me doing the upholstery I know upholsterers that will do the job. Best of Luck

PS The red one is mine with a direct fit cover that actually needs to be fitted. The black one is upholstered vinyl.

  4. According to Gene Guarnere the correct name for the color on the wheels you a referring is “ Shadow Grey”. The PPG and Ditzler color charts do not have the paint code nor the color listed. It could very well be I overlooked and missed things that are listed.

I want and get it done once and done right and cry once about what it cost.

There is no status in spending more than is needed nor squeezing the nickel too hard.

I know an upholsterer in NC Ive done business for years. He specializes in the vintage Cadillacs, Buick, packard, etc. ive found his prices more than reasonable. Its likely you could drive out or have it hauled out and back for $1600. He is second generation to run the shop.

    Ill PM the particulars.

. I was hoping to find several options to recover my seat, but no luck so far.

Buy the material you like and have an automobile upholsterer make the covers and install. SMS will be a good source for your material.

  7. I’d like to add putting color on your turbines with paint advantage is coverage only has to be applied once. If you mess up, well …..

The advantage powder coating has is the finish is hard as steel. The disadvantage is the turbine should be outgassed to get the contaminants out of the metal. This outgass treatment adds a minimum of 4 hours per set. If the cast aluminum is not outgassed clean your powder coat finish screams “ Do over.” Matching the powder color of your vanes and webs with your car aged paint for some is impossible.

Ive seen truly impressive powder coat chrome look just like polished aluminum. I might had eight coats of material in and out of the curing oven makes for a lot of work.

  8. The stainless  steel horn bar I had made by a fabricator I conduct business with on a regular basis. The horn bar was made in Maryland. The TIG welds are neat and nicely done. The edges can be chamfered at customers request. The horn bar can be chrome plated as well for $150.00 additional.

but just not enough nice days in WA for that, lol

The tiny state of Maryland has a reputation big sways in the weather within each season. I do not winterize the two old cars I have. If it is dry and no salt on the roads I go for a ride. Keeping the car free of debris that can harm the body with rust is a chore I seriously look after.

It could be I drive the 64 Chevy Impala SS and 63 Riv too much. Im always after something to get fixed.

    those turbines are wall art

Yes Sir, wall art. In addition the Turbines are automotive industrial art you can drive. Gene Guarnere sold the first set of turbines I ever owned. I cleaned them up, polished and buffed and sold for a profit. ( had I factored in minimum wage I would have lost money ! Ha!)

The original size 845 is in between a 215 and 225...your call. The 225 looks meaty, the 215 looks "'60's skinny".

I do not think our first gen Riv came with these tire sizes. I have a set of 7.10 R 15’s on my 63 and got popped 10 points at Hershey for the tire being a radial bias look. The nerve of some people. I shook the Judging Captain’s hand and thanked him for volunteering. We laughed.

Here is the old look with narrower WSWs which I prefer

Im with you on what appears to be s 1” WSW tire. I think the width of and config/color of the side wall is what you like. Im mostly a stock guy, but I change up three different tire/ wheel sets on my 63. Kinda like having a great pair of shoes for Sunday School, but no good for dancing in the street.

I insist on premium brand name rubber for my daily drivers and those BF Goodrich tires were that

XFrame- from what Ive been told all tires sold in the US must meet quality standards established by US Dept of Transportation. I have no argument regarding quality of rubber compound in tires.

My tire guy said some of the tires made in the US will not meet some foreign country import quality standards. Could be very well be why US tires do not make it to Canada?

With quality standards established one would think motor vehicle tires would consistent quality across application and brands. Quality standards analogous to our USA STOP SIGN appearance. We get tread design and appearance description from the manufacturers, but nothing ive read about the make up of the rubber compound and steel belting that goes the tires.

Last year I was awarded bad luck and had to purchase 20 new tires. My tire guy told me a buy a lot of tires. I said it seems that way. I buy what Jerry recommends for my vehicle.

I couldn't find that size in WSWs so went for

John, Iron Man, a Cooper built USA tire, has one inch WSW tires in the size you want. There are trucks going to Canada, even BC, daily with these tires and no problems. No tax, no VAT, each tire comes with a 6 pack of Molson.

  15. I don't care what anyone says you’ll suffer drop off with Bluetooth. If you are going to refit your cabin with good audio gear wire everything. If you can hear bluetooth better get your hearing checked.

I liked the 45 RPM car record players. The tone arm in the record player was mounted upside down when compared to conventional tone arm mounting. The sound was not good but it beat AM radio.

asked SMS and they were very guarded about giving a direct answer to that question.  If

SMS have the goods. However, they want you blindfolded when  you put in an order. From my point of view Id mask the dickens out the interior treat the material and match the color with fabric dye. Always more than one way to do a job and get it right, maybe. 🙂

That said I never really had an opportunity to even find the Turbine caps

Mitch, I sent this one and another like it for a more than fair price. I knew the gent wanted a very good job. I supplied original studs for a 6” wide wheel as youll notice these are 63 color config with original 63 studs. So, removed the 63 studs at no charge and inc. original studs for 6” wide wheels. The gent did not complain, but asked if I knew how to finish brighter.
