  1. Heck, what do I know? I'm hearing impaired. Not sure about equalizer, but I can tell you there's only one speaker. The settings are Mello, Music, and Voice. My only goal is to get the radio to work as it did in 1949 or so. I'll be able to hear enough to know the radio is on, but my ears aren't critical enough to know what the sound quality is. I can identify static or voices or music, but that's about it. This is a tube type radio we're talking about here, and it's likely not too sophisticated. But it does have something called a vibrator built in, and I kind of suspect the tone control affects the vibrator frequency. I'm told the vibrator creates a noticeable hum, and I'm guessing if that hum can be controlled, it might cancel out noise from a weak signal. But that's just a guess, which will get you a cup of coffee at SpeedWay if you throw in two bucks.
  2. THANK YOU c49er! Now I know what I need to look for. I just removed the volume knob (#2), and found the tone control shaft. A little judicious application of the small pliers indicates that the tone control shaft does turn, and is connected to the display. Now I have an embarrassing admission to make, too. I saw your radio for sale on eBay, and decided to buy one from an area used parts yard. Price was the same, but there was no shipping. Penny smart, pound foolish, I guess.
  3. Thank you 61Polara and TerryB. When I turn the ring, it draws down on the threaded stem until it engages the outer lock nut. Is that threaded stem supposed to turn and control the tone selector? I'll try lubing the shaft tomorrow.
  4. Hello all. I have a '49 Coronet which never had a radio. Picked one up from a salvage yard. It's the seven button model 803 in the Owner's Manual. The radio came from a '49 Plymouth, and says Model 807 on the bottom. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to change the tone control setting between Voice/Music/Mello. The Owner's Manual calls out a bezel on the volume knob, but I don't see one. The internet has been no help. The manual is no help. Photo's I've looked at don't show sufficient detail, so I'm stuck. Have I lost my buttons? Help?
  5. Thanks Jack. I'll look again. What you said is what I expected to find, but maybe I'm feeling the wrong socket. Might try to take a picture with a mirror.
  6. My '49 Coronet is equipped with turn signals, which work well. However, the dashboard indicator light doesn't work. The shop manual calls out the same bulb as used in the high beam indicator, and the owners manual says the turn signal indicator light is the left light of a pair in the speedometer face. The high beam indicator bulb is easily replaced. The turn signal indicator, not so much. The socket feels small compared to the hi-beam bulb socket, and it will absolutely not budge. Neither the shop manual, nor the owners manual cover replacing the bulb. What am I missing? I'm hearing-impaired, and the clicking flasher is not enough of a cue to remind me the turn signals are on. If you see an old guy in an old Coronet driving along with the turn signal on for blocks, that'll be me. Can anyone help?
  7. Thanks Joe! I can well imagine that the combination of gravity and my butt would hold the seat down in most circumstances. The lap belts may never be needed, but . . . Having to remove the entire seat should expedite matters. I wonder what I'll find under there. TT
  8. Taylormade, the floors on Blue Moon seem surprisingly solid, but added bracing sounds like a good idea. Thanks.
  9. I know this will sound dumb, but i need to ask anyway. I'll be putting seatbelts in my '49 Coronet, and i need advice on removing the seats. Must i remove the entire seat from the car, or can I simply remove the seat cushions? If just the cushions, how do they come out? I suppose as long as I'm asking dumb questions, i should ask how to replace the itty-bitty turn signal indicator bulbs in the dash. The car is box stock, with the original 6 volt electrical system. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.
  10. Seat belts are ordered. Anchor hardware is available locally. Now comes the little issue of getting the belts in. Do I need to remove the entire seat, or just the cushion? If just the cushion, does it lift out, or is it bolted in somehow? Blue Moon has footrests under the back of the front seat, plus I know I need to keep the belts clear of the seat fore/aft adjuster. What else do I need to know (aside from the winning Lotto numbers)?
  11. AtlBluz, is this the link you found? http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.X97+inch+seatbelt.TRS0&_nkw=97+inch+seatbelt&_sacat=0
  12. Thank you Bob. Just went out and used a piece of rope the take a measurement. Looks like I'm going to have to lose some weight.
  13. Thank you Keiser31. That's a good idea.
  14. altlbluz, you just saved me some grief. Standard belts seem to be 60-62 inches, but I've seen some listed at 72-74 inches, and that was what I was planning to buy. Ninety-nine sounds hard to find, but I'll look for them. Rusty, I'm not too worried about the seat ripping out, but better to err on the side of caution, huh? Thank you both for your input.
  15. Joe, thanks for your response. I was thinking about using the outboard seat anchor points for half of each belt. Is that reasonable? Seems like it would minimize drilling in the floorpan. It would also distribute the force over a larger area. Quite a collection you have there.
