  1. Hi all. Previously posted In general and had some great help but realised I should have posted in Buick prewar after a member suggested this. Hi I have purchased a 27 Buick sedan. I just can’t resist these early Buicks especially when they are needing a cuddle to get them on the road again. not ran for a few years. Looking to swap out for a 1928 delco 640a as points etc cheaper . I’m hoping if I can find a 640 a it will be a direct replacement? Any advice greatly appreciated. Kind regards .
  2. Hi Peter. After a bit of digging I’m convinced it’s a common Lucas DK4A Austin 7 etc etc. (no tag on unit) and looks like I’ll be fine here obtaining parts. Even looks like I could get an electronic ignition base plate if I so desired. Really Appreciate your help and pointer in the right direction 👍 regards chris.
  3. An impressive hoard of parts 👍 great info from everyone. Thank you. I just incorrectly assumed an American unit. Confirmed Lucas so will (or should be) simple to deal with now. Regards Chris.
  4. Hi all, I have a 1924 model t (not very original with plenty of later parts fitted) she has a retro fitted distributor and I’m hoping someone can identify the unit so I can obtain some parts , cap points etc. I have only just realised how many dizzys have been available for the T over the years. Guess if I can’t identify I Will have to fit a replacement (newer) unit. Thanks in advance. Regards Chris. Pics attached.
  5. Many thanks. I’m realising one job brings another on this old girl. Painful but worth it as I doubt if the starter Genny has had much attention over the years. My original dizzy has been replaced with a Vw golf Bosch unit believe it or not. And a particularly nice adaptor plate. Believe previous owner struggled to source an original. Looks a bit out of place but guess it’s serviceable. Mech advance retard works fine. Thanks again for your c25 advice. Definitely on my own with this one over here. 🙈
  6. Thanks for advice. The Two front glands timing side are straightforward now plenty of room to remove old packing measure up correctly i although…. Rear gland to starter side not so easy can only get 2mm clearance as nut buts up to boss for retaining pin. No where near enough to remove / install new packing. Nut is free from thread but no more room to slide back and rectify packing. can I slacken pump from block and slide pump forward enough to get into packing nut/box. Else it looks like pump may have to come off. Which although I intend to do at some point not really on my list at present time. Thanks Chris First pic shows nut off threads but only allowing tiny 2mm gap.
  7. Thank you. I did see a previous post you had made regarding your c25 there does not seem to be many in use even in America. but as I’m reasonably new to group I could not message you directly. Much appreciated, I’ll measure tomorrow and see what thickness I need to order. Kind regards Chris.
  8. Thank you both . Much appreciated. Being such an early car I really don’t want to do anything unless I’m sure to avoid disaster. Especially being in the uk. Good tip re using same diameter dowel etc to ensure new packing cut correctly. The string based packing has come out in one consolidated piece so I will be able to measure to order a strip of the correct packing material. Do you guys use the graphite impregnated or the ptfe alternative? Regards Chris.
  9. Hi all, my 1915 Buick cx25 (export) same as c25 is now up and running after a long period of taking it easy. Would someone with a similar early car suggest the material ideal for packing timing gear side gland and water pump glands and size they use please and what soft grease you are using in the grease cups. My shaft is not pitted and in good order. Thank you. Chris , Staffordshire uk. Previously both packed with an assortment of thickness thin string
  10. Hi all, while since I posted either at work or tinkering with an old Buick of some sort in the garage in sunny Staffordshire England. Thought I would share my wonderful latest (well earliest by far for me) Bedford Buick CX25. Come up in auction regrettably deceased estate, no time to view, risky purchase but I had to go for it. Wanted an unusual early uk sold buick for many many years. I like the uk cars and have a 37 rhd maltby bodied convertible. Only had this 1915 home a day so just enjoying the calm before the storm enjoying just looking at her before I find something that’s not so good when I start digging. Not ran for 18 months so some gentle and patient cuddling needed and I cannot wait. Built as Bedford Buick in London to avoid duties at the time. Fitted with British accessories / lights etc. I think the basic coach work is the same as the c25 American market??earliest Buick I’ve had was a 28 so this going to be a big learning curve especially here in uk. Not many folk into early Buicks here. I must be mad 😊has history from day one , a rare old girl in right hand drive. I have a feeling I’m going to need a few questions answering from fellow buick enthusiasts as time goes on. Thank you Chris.
  11. I think I posted this incorrectly previously. I have a 1930 big six in England. Regretfully I have lost one single hubcap at a show today. Been in a bad mood since I noticed it and hoping to track one down to purchase. Kind regards Chris. Pic of the type I have which I believe are original and correct
  12. Hi all, bit late to post on this thread but hoping I may be able to obtain a hubcap for my big six pride and joy. Looks like a trophy hunter may of taken a liking today at a local car show to one of my caps. But perhaps I may of forgotten to nip it up tight…. Anyway gutted. Pic attatched of the style / pattern I need to be happy again. I’m in the uk. If I have posted in incorrect place could one of you kind folk suggest the best place. I’m definitely not going to get one of these in England. Kind regards Chris.
  13. Hi , yes I still look after the Buick,I hope for many years to come . I do have a lot of info passed on from previous owner who researched Maltbys a great deal . he lived near where there showroom was, im sure he would also be happy to chat about Maltbys ,the previous owner to him met with an employee who worked there and I have the detail of this and other info I'm happy to share , private message me and I'll pass my contact number for a chat. Thanks. Be nice to see your car I've not seen any other maltbys in the flesh.
  14. Thank you I have sent a personal message, what a story with his Pontiac! Great contact.
  15. Hi all, I'm in England and have purchased a really nice stock 1929 Pontiac big six sedan, I've got a few buicks and know exactly where to go stateside for my spares after years of trial and error with different sources to keep them on the road, any advice for the best contact for general consumable items , tune up kit, gaskets, etc etc would be appreciated. NEW or old stock .its looking like this old Pontiac is going to be tougher to get BASIC parts for than my early buicks. Thank you kind regards, Chris.
  16. Thank you for the kind responses, she should be back on the road in a few more weeks. Can't wait.
  17. Hi all, I have recently purchased a fantastic English bodied 1937 redfern buick coachbuilt by the maltby works sandgate Kent on a 37 right hand drive mclaughlin series 40 CHASSIS. I have had many early buicks over the years and I am definitely hooked on them.(even if it it a bit tough sometimes keeping them on the road here in the u.k) The car is pretty well known as had been previously owned by Stewart who was a member of the forum. And I was lucky enough to purchase the car a few months ago. I'm currently going over the car to insure she is as good as I can get her. Equipped with her original functioning full power hood (electric driven hydraulic) she is a very impressive motor and by far the nicest buick I have owned. The headlights and spotlights are original and were fitted to suit uk taste at the time. IF there is anyone who knows about a similar sister car built 1937 sold a good few years ago at auction (was black) it would be great to contact the owner. Any info on buick maltby cars would be appreciated. My car was the 37 Paris motor show car and has had an interesting life. Regards Chris (staffordshire England)
  18. hi bob, really impressive work, have a 37 here in rainy England.grille sections way past there best.are you still producing these beautifully engineered replacements.regards Chris christopherearl246@btinternet.com
