  1. To me antique means the car has a distributor, a carburetor, no power steering, brakes, or AC. It does not contain plastic or fiberglass. It does not have a stereo sound system. It does not have a GPS. It does have windows that roll down with a crank. It is so simple that today's dealer mechanics cannot work on it. People smile when I drive by. Now that's an antique automobile.
  2. That's when someone has one and thinks it is and doubles the price to see if anyone else agrees.
  3. Just to add a little more from this very correct post. If money has anything at all to do with this project think about that first. All monies spent on an older car must be completely disposable. No way around it don't try to trick yourself. You cannot restore a car on a budget because the cost will always exceed the budget. You can not make a profit on a restored car. If your goal is to drive a really cool car then buy a completed one. If money is no object then spend away and have fun. There is a middle ground. Many old cars are for sale that were started with good intentions and never finished. In any case do more homework. Good luck and enjoy the ride. Now it's off to the paint shop to see how they are doing on the $10,000 paint job on the $1,000 car.
  4. Rosella T 15-40 available at Farm and Fleet. Period.
  5. Startrek had a sucking parasite that looked like that.
  6. Antique Automobile magazine has lots of ads for insurance.
  7. That was an entry in the original Batmobile design contest. It did not win.
  8. Better idea. Stop working and drive your cars as much as you want.
  9. It's called Red Sticky. Some parts stores carry it.
  10. Sounds to me like a bunch of sales BS. Take your tire to an Ag tire place.
  11. Good question. Why not?
  12. I sincerely hope you're on to something. Got enough snake oil on the market now. I have not heard anything from the mega diesel industry yet. Wait and see.
  13. This ain't rocket science. Cut it with a hacksaw wire included and dress it on a wheel.
  14. For me when an overhaul is warranted I want the best and that starts with the machine shop. I tell the shop that I want the best rings and no mention of brand. The rest is up to the shop. The shop that I use does not sell groceries or plywood. I do not tell the shop to buy the rings from Amazon or any other specific place. Yup, it's my money and I'm not a gambler. In fact the shop I use does not let the customer bring in their own parts unless pre authorized and may void the warranty on their work.
  15. We know that ethanol in gas used in old cars is not a good thing. The non-corn gas around here is 90 or 93 octane. This of course is much higher than Henry designed his cars for. What damage if any is this high octane doing to my cars?
  16. With something this important I'm not taking any chances just to save a few bucks. To me, saving money, worrying about the quality after the fact, tearing down the engine again, and returning the parts just because I can doesn't make any sense. " Fool me once shame on me" is really a pile of crap!
  17. I have just received my first copy of the AACA magazine. What a surprise! Just wanted to say what a fine magazine it is. Great stuff inside. Well done!
  18. I really don't see the point of driverless cars. What's a car without a driver? As for driverless trucks forget it. Put the trailers on train cars. The engineerless train technology is already here. My BIL is an engineer. He has two years to full retirement. He is worried about getting layed off first.
  19. Yea but the military vehicle would survive quite well.
  20. Kinda looks like a magneto. And that would fit the date you mention.
  21. I restore old Farmall tractors. Original bolts had a dot on the head. I save them all. At a show the first thing the correct police look for is dot bolts.
  22. Back in the 50's a fellow named Joe Scanlin had a garage in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Very good and honest mechanic. Among otherthings he had several Pierce Arrows. He also bought and had many Cadillac limos. These cares were used to take tourists up Pikes Peak in the summer. They were replaced every two or three years because of the ware and tear. He had many of them. He also had some really nice antiques. Of course Joe died and the property sold. Does anyone know what ahppened to these fine old cars?
